Director Fury waited patiently to arrive at the Xavier Institute. It was tucked away so that no one would be able to find it, and quite a wait would be required before getting there. The institute, to the very few who had heard of it was simply that, an institute for young and abandoned children. To an even fewer amount of people it housed the X-Men, a team of mutants who fought for peace and equality between humans and Mutants.
Ever since the Battle of New York, more and more people with amazing and incredible powers began to arise, some fighting for justice while other fought for their own causes. SHIELD has been monitoring as many of these mutants as they could, but many are still being discovered about every minute.
As the black van arrived at the gate, Director Fury had, for the most part decided who was going to be on this team. It was the only reason that he was there in the first place. Many attacks around the world have been caused by mutants within the past few months, and the only way to stop them would be to use mutants of their own. He held a folder containing files of the mutants he knew that he wanted on the team, but there were only about three in that folder. He knew that some of these mutants hadn't been documented, so he needed to make room for any he saw would be good for the team.

"Does that hurt?"
"No."
"Now?"
"No."
"What about now?"
"Jesus Christ, it doesn't hurt, leave me alone." The whole room went quiet and turned their heads round to face the brunette who'd exclaimed her own annoyance. She dropped her head and continued with the notes she should have been making. Her eyes flicked up to the teacher, then back down. She wasn't going to apologise, there wasn't much point.

Thankfully, the lesson ended soon after and Emily gathered her belongings and disappeared out the door. A loud pop and the small male who'd been bothering appeared beside her.
"What does hurt?"
"My fist up your arse."
"No. Really? What hurts?"
"I don't know, a lot of stuff really." She turned into the crowds and tried to avoid the same individual who chose to bother her every physics lesson. She dodged the crowds and moved up the stairs towards the library.

She dropped her books down and slumped into a seat. It was quiet enough for her. Just somewhere to focus on her studies

"Book... Book! Booker!"
She practically shouted at him with her strong southern accent and was just about ready to hit him upside the head. Luckily for him he snapped out of his trance just before that would become a possibility and moved back from the woman in front of him. The truth was that she scared him quite a bit and meant it literally when she talked about 'taking her gloves off.' She intimidated many of the younger students at the institute, but it wasn't just fear with her, but also friendship.

She had met him in his early days upon arriving, and emoted with her somewhat easily when it came to her past. Although he didn't have the powers that she had, he was also hated and feared to an extent by the people he used to live with. He always daydreamed like he did, and was glad that someone was there to wake him up from it all.

He could see from the look on her face that she was prepared to hit him if need be, but was just as glad as he was that it didn't come down to that. "Book, you gotta stop drifting off like that, someone could get the better of you when you're half-way here."

Emily sat quietly, keeping away from the same mutant who often tried to bother her. Perhaps it was amusing to bother someone curiously considering they didn't explode upon intense emotions. She just didn't feel things as much. Well, intense pain was the strongest pain she felt. It wasn't a mutation as such, however paired with a high pain threshold, well above the human average, it gave her a unique mutation. Hell, if she ever became a soldier.

Her eyes moved up to the clock. She'd got plenty of time to kill before the lesson was over. She pondered over her homework and turned her eyes to a jet outside. A few other students moved over to the windows as a tall man left the jet. He wasn't someone anyone had seen before. She gathered he was a mutant, no one else would wear an eyepatch. Of course she was blissfully unaware of Fury's purpose in the building; their haven.

She gathered her things and hurried down towards the courtyard during lunch. She had friends down their, unluckily, not many of them shared lessons with her.

"We should get going, Booker." She continued, tapping him on the back and signaling for him to stand up so they would leave. "I've heard that someone's supposed to be coming over here today. I'm not sure who it is, but after the Battle of New York, I don't think it can be all that good." Booker stood at about her height. He was a year or two younger than she was, but he had a somewhat tall and skinny build that made him just taller than her. The two of them walked out the door and roamed the halls, occasionally looking at some of the students that seemed to be going the opposite way as them. She wondered why so many of them were going that way, but it was theirs business, not hers. A wall of silence had been slowly building between the two, but was only expected since Booker wasn't the type to talk all that much. He could hold a conversation if need be, but other than that, he was pretty quiet.

"So, Book. Do you know what's going on? Seems like everyone is going the other way." He took a moment to think about it and and shrugged. He didn't know any more than she did about the matter, maybe even less. "I don't know. Maybe if we head outside we'll see if everyone knows but us." She didn't completely understand his though process, but he practically had a genius IQ that was somewhat wasted due to his Mutation not having anything to do with it. She nodded her head in agreement and followed him to the courtyard. There were a few people, and most of them didn't seem to be in any hurry.

After simply observing for a few moments, The two of them walked around to ask and see if anyone knew what was going on, and they wanted to start with a brunette that seemed about Booker's age. Since Booker wasn't the talking type, she thought that she would break the ice. "Hi." She said simply, pushing a silver hair out of her face and over to the side, back to the strange row of grey hairs that stood out round the rest of her black hair. "We wanted to know if anyone out here knew what was going on. Me and my friend Booker here only know that someone's supposed to be arriving today, but nothing else. Not who, or why, or anything."

Emily usually met close friends by the basketball court, cheering them on from the side lines.
Otherwise things turned into a painless game of dodgeball. She didn't mind too much but the bruising she got the next day was the greatest thing in the world. She gave a short sign and looked out to small group already playing. They were each much younger than herself, and clearly in control of some of their powers. Unlike herself, there was an off switch. A choice. Hell, the number of times Emily had sustained a great injury and barely noticed was too great. It was the same flawed gift that had caused Xavier to find her in the first place; travelling across the back streets of Ottawa with blood trailing down her leg as if nothing was wrong.

She turned her head quickly when two students she knew only vaguely appeared.
"Hi." She smiled, her guard up and ready. It took her a moment before her mind managed to register the anomaly she saw earlier that morning. "There was a weird mutant here this morning. He came by jet. I assume her wants to talk to the Professor but that's all I know. I couldn't tell you why." She picked up her bag and stood. "I guess looking down in the professor's office wouldn't hurt. If you're that bothered."

"Would you mind if we came with you?" Booker finally spoke up. She didn't seem all that bad as a first impression, but wasn't satisfied that the fact thay they knew just as much as the two of them did. He was actually surprised that his friend didn't know anything about what was going on, but there were things that Even Rogue couldn't find out if she wanted to. She was a little taken back about when he talked. She expected for her to do all of the talking, but didn't say anything about it She thought it was a little odd how none of them even bothered to start with names yet, but that's how she was raised, instead of everyone answering to 'hey you.' She smiled a little and nodded to the woman they had just met.

Many would think that being in an institute for quite some time, you would know everyone's name by now, but there would always be new people to meet no matter what would happen. "Yes, do you think we could? By the way, I'm Rogue. This is my friend Booker, but I call him Book." He gave him a light pat on the back and he nodded when his name was called out.

Emily smiled at each of them.
"I wouldn't mind." She stepped between the two of them and headed inside. If she was going to spy on this newcomer, she'd need a mutant with certain talents.
"Emily. Just Emily." She pushed open the doors and walked her way into the institute once again. She'd met many mutants who'd classified themselves, some level 3's, much like the girl behind her.

She moved down the halls and poked her head round one room. It was a room in the centre of the institute, no windows, just walls. The boy sat in the room was small in size, four foot six. Yet he seemed much taller. He was unlike most other mutants. His skin was almost black, his skin shiny and snake-like.
"Rahul."
"Emily!" He jumped to his feet and moved with oddly graceful steps. Closer inspection would provide the appearance of knees hooked in the wrong direction, like a fawn.

"Can we borrow your ears?" Emily smiled, hugging him like a brother. "Oh, this is Rogue and Book." She gestured a hand towards the two others and smiled.

Rahul extended his hand and smiled. He didn't expect them to shake, he slept alone. He didn't really have anywhere to go.

As soon as he was visible, Booker had studied the short boy and everything about him. He saw his fawn-like legs interesting, as he had never seen anything like that before, but this was the Xavier Institute, so just about anything was possible. When she had spoken about borrowing ears, the first thing he had assumed was that he mas a man that knew rumors, picking up things that he had heard just while walking around. The second thought that popped in to his head as just as likely, but he still wasn't sure. Perhaps this person had hearing that was far beyond a human's? He didn't know, but he assumed that he would find out in time.

Rogue Nodded with a smile and quickly waved her hand as her name was mentioned, and Booker simply nodded his hand. She had done all that she could to make sure that Booker was social with other people, and if it were up to him he'd spend all of his time reading away at the library that they had. Rogue was a part of the welcome wagon when it came to meeting the new arrivals. Three wasn't actually a welcoming committee other than Xavier himself, but Rogue was a friendly person and tried to get to know some of the newer students better. She had formed a great friendship his him pretty early on, and it was a bit more of one than she had with a large majority of the other students.

She was also curious as to what Emily meant by 'borrowing his ears,' and as badly as she wanted to know she knew that they would know soon enough to satisfy her.

Rahul laughed.
"I assume you have questions about the stranger who turned up today." His voice was deep, indicating age. Exactly how many, Emily didn't know. He'd taken her in after the unfortunate incident that caused her to run from home. The brunette gave a nod.
"Were all curious?"
"Then why not head into the gardens like everybody else?"
"We need to know what he wants. Who he is." Emily took his hand and frowned. "Is he a mutant?"

The last thing Emily needed was stress. She couldn't register herself. She didn't want to and she couldn't, wouldn't!
"No. I passed him in the hall some time earlier. He knew my name. Which proves he isn't from the government. What he did tell me was a name." The tall fawn-like man paused, seating himself down on a bench close by.
"Director Fury."

Emily stammered and shifted. The name meant nothing to her, and her eyes moved to see the reactions of her new- were they friends? Probably not.
"What does he want?" She muttered. Rahul lifted a hand to her ear and gently brushed over it. Emily took a step back and swallowed hard.

"Come. I can't hear from here." Rahul stood and moved out of his room.

Both Booker and Rogue listened carefully to the fawn-like man. Although neither of them had little to no idea who "Director Fury" was, Rogue could have sword that the name had popped up in a conversation some time ago. It pained her to think about it and looked at Booker. "Do you know who he's talking about?" She knew that he knew just as much, if not a little less than she did, but she was just seeing if anyone knew who he was.

As Rahul stepped out of his room, Rogue followed him with some distance and Booker followed right behind her. They both wanted to know more, and even if he didn't say anything to them, they'd follow him anyway just to soothe their curiosity.

Rahul led to group down towards a small common room which was well within his hearing range. He relaxed himself into a seat, allowing the others to sit by him. Emily stayed silent during this, aware of how important this was. Well, the concentration, not the news.

"I'm not asking for Soldiers, Professor. I'm asking for mutants who possess a certain aptitude SHIELD can use."
"As weapons? It's the reason we here fought again Magneto in the first place."
"Look. Regardless of your choice, I have the legal ability to take any of these kids you have here and train them to take down what is out there."
"What right is that?"
"Considering you ain't exactly their parents; every right."

Rahul opened his eyes and exhaled slowly.
"I believe the gentlemen is building an army. Using students from within this school." He spoke directly to each of them, unsure as to what exactly to tell them.

"An amry!?" Rogue exclaimed. Although there was a small voice telling her that it was possible that he could be lying about it, she knew better, and by the look on his face he could tell that he was serious. She had half a mind to march in there and give Director Fury a piece of her mind, tell him that he just couldn't take people here to use for an army!

Booker, although not a telepath, could see that she was tempted to kid down a door. He placed a hand on her shoulder and looked at her calmly. He didn't need to say anything to tell her that she should tone it down a bit, and she nodded with a sigh. "I guess we'll find out when Xavier wants us too, no use making a fuss out of it." She sighed once more and looked to Rahul, remembering that she hadn't given him thanks for the information. "Thanks, Rahul, but I just don't think it's right for this guy to go and just take some of the students!"

Rahul looked at each of them and nodded.
"After the Battle of New York, heroes aren't going to around for each little hiccup. After all, there was only six of them." Maybe he understood the situation, and maybe he knew it was wrong, yet just by looking at his face Emily couldn't tell whose side he was on. Rahul hugged her once more and placed a hand over her ear.
"Be careful."

The brunette smiled and turned towards the others.
"Guess we should head outside like everyone else." She suggested, leaving her partly adopted friend and father in the common room. She took up her bag once more and peered into the hallway.
"Everyone's still there."

Booker thought over what Rahul had said to Rogue, Emily, and himself. He never left the Academy, so he wasn't very aware of them outside world unless it was something big like the battle of New York. It things seemed as bad as Rahul said they were, then Director fury had a well and valid point to all of this.

Rogue had only taken two hasty steps forward before being stopped by Booker, who put a hand on her shoulder and used just enough force to turn her around to face him. "What if it isn't an army, but a task force?" He asked her. Rogue took the question in to deep thought and thought it over for a brief time. She did have all the time in the world right now, so some of her thoughts were rushed. "It's possible, but I still don't like the sound of it, Book."
