The Problem-Solving club, a magical school RP

(The school may or may not look like this)
The Setting

The setting is a world of magic, much like our own but with many differences. This is set in a modern era in which magic has been a part of for a long, long time and has now been able to basically solve all the world's major problems. Magic is the main focus of school teaching and the other essential subjects are taught on the side as well. The main focus of this RP will be one specific school (which I don't have a name for right now) which is basically like all the manga high schools in that there's a bunch of problems and weird stuff happening that don't really correlate to each other and no one feels like doing anything about.

The story centres on one specific club within the school which is called the Problem-Solving club, which as the name would imply, investigates and solves any problems that they are given. But don't let that prevent you from doing whatever you want, you can choose to be in the club, out of the club, against the club or anything you really want.

The Club:
As mentioned above, the club is called the Problem-Solving club. It's only been made pretty recently, but the club has an impressive track record for being able to solve every problem they've been given. The club operates out of a slightly modified club room, with one large consulting table in the middle with chairs on either side, another desk on one side of the room which is for working and a couple of couches around the place.

Magic

Casting:
The magic in this RP is a little complicated and may or may not be hard to get, but once you understand it you can basically do what you want with it.

The magic in this world relies on two things: the Chant, and the Trace. The Chant serves as an invitation of the Gods' powers, by calling their names you can apply their power to your spell. The Trace serves as a guide for the power, taking it and placing it where it is needed in order to construct more complex spells.

You Trace a spell basically by waving either your finger or a wand around as you Chant. The names in the Chant will become a glowing point in the air, and the Trace allows you to connect the names in a meaningful way. Names are prioritized from first to last when Tracing a spell and each name will change the spell depending on how the caster wills it.

The end of the Trace must connect to the first name to form a circle, and each circle will only be able to produce one effect. But you can stack multiple circles to produce a more complex spell, but more complexity doesn't mean more power. For example, a fire meteor spell would be simply one circle, but a combination x-ray vision and lazer spell would require two circles.

There are of course, some limits to the amount of circles and how well you can control a spell. The ability to Trace a spell is dependent on the caster. You cannot Trace indefinitely but you can exercise the ability to increase its duration. Generally speaking, a beginner will only be able to trace three lines to start with, a prodigy would be able to trace 3 circles by the time they're in high-school and a master would be able to trace anywhere up to 10 circles.

In addition to Trace limits, you must impose your will upon the power of each name as you cast them but before you reach the next name, so therefore you must be able to quickly calculate and figure out what kind of effects you wish to put on your spell and which names you must use.

Each name also must be handled differently, so classes are split up between several similar names or group of names because it's easier to learn.

Names:
Besides the names of the gods that are required for casting magic, each person also has their own individual name which can also be used in the formation of a spell in order to target someone. Adding yours or someone else's name to the end of the spell will make them the target of the spell.

There are also many other ways to use your name in the application of a spell, such as centring it on yourself, breathing it out etc.

Other things

  • I'm not going to restrict much here, as long as it ain't terrible
  • Don't leave without saying why
  • I'll have a character sheet template done when I have some interest for this
  • I'd like it if you guys could suggest stuff to me to improve on this
  • I'll have a job board or something done eventually
  • I'll be sorting the magic categories sooner or later
  • If you have questions, ask them
