THE GREAT BASTILLE

"For crimes of which there can be no forgiveness, this court finds you guilty of all charges. As for your sentenceing? I, as the honorable judge presiding, have decided that even the cold embrace of death is to good for worthless scum such as you. I hereby sentence you to serve 4 life sentences, with no chance of parole, in the Great Bastille. May god have mercy on your soul"

The year is 1827, the middle of the Victorian Era for this world. In this world crime is dealt with quite similarly to ours. A court is presented a case, a trial is held, a verdict is declared as well as a sentence. However, in this world, the very worst convicted felons are not sentenced to death, for death is above their worthless hides. The worst of the worst are sent to the great bastille, an international prison situated in the middle of the ocean. You, are one the convicts banished to this hell hole, sent to die in some horrible fashion after suffering terribly. But you don't intend to. You and a small group of other prisoners have decided to attempt the unthinkable, escape.

The bastille is no ordinary prison. It is unaffiliated with any country and therefore outside of any law. It's problems for the inmates begin with its location, in the middle of the ocean. It sits on a huge island (roughly tge size of the U.K.) with the entire island being a part of the colossal prison. Then there's the guards, most of whom are little more than criminals themselves. Recruited from across the world from the most vile of Mercenary bands, the lowest scum of an army, or even sadistic guards from other prisons there's not a good hearted man or woman among them. They patrol large sections of the bastille, particularly the outer walls, and often beat, kill and abuse any prisoners they come across. If you lucky they'll just rough you up a bit, if your not you'll soon wish you were dead. Throughout the bastille are large torture rooms, from which few prisoners ever return, and those that do are never the same. After the guards come the beasts, bred to kill and maime. Mangy guard dogs are often released into sections of the prison to cut down on population. The dogs are Half starved, riddled with disease, and travel in hungry packs. They will tear any prisoners they find to pieces, bringing slow, painful death as they tear their victims limb from limb. Other beasts are often unleashed as well... strange, deformed and terrible, they roam the tight corridors with murderous intent, lusting for blood. Many are former prisoners subjected to bizarre and terrible experiments, but others have far stranger origins that can only be guessed at, but are most certainly terrible. However, sometimes the greatest danger comes from your fellow prisoners, willing to murder you for a crumb of bread or mug of water. Many are terrible murders and serial killers, delighting in their new playground full of endless victims. Others simply want to survive, and kill to keep themselves safe and get what they need. One of the final bars to escape is the bastille itself. A vast and winding maze, it was designed that virtually no one without a map could ever navigate the great complex, and would simply become lost and die in its endlessly twisting halls. On top of that, large sections have fallen into decay, disarray, and disrepair. These ruins are free of guards, who dare not enter so unsafe am area. Here lucky prisoners have forged lives and crude order, or fallen to terrible barbarism. The prisoners in these areas may have more freedom to move here, but the other prisoners also have more freedom, and many have less than generous ideas of how to use their quasi-freedom. Sometimes guards will lead large scale raids on these areas, storming them as a small army with dogs and other beasts alongside them, killing any prisoner they find. Often they lead to rapid depopulation of the area, but sometimes they are overwhelmed, and never return to their posts. These areas are more common close to the center of the bastille as the guards keep to the outer walls, so as you move outward the security becomes thicker (generally speaking). Some say darker, more sinister things lie within the bastille... but these may be no more than rumours

Time in the bastille:(How long have you been here? Are you an old prisoner who's serviced a few years? Or did you get here yesterday?)

Crimes:(What were you convicted for? Remember, it needs to be REALLY bad as even your average life time criminal isn't sent to the bastille.)

Backstory:(Are you truly a terrible menace to society? Or an innocent man or woman wrongly convicted? You don't need to have committed the crime, just been convicted of it)

First day:(A brief description of your characters first day in the bastille, sort of a way to gage how you will play the character and what their personality is)

Needles to say this will involve horror, so if your uncomfortable with body horror, cosmic horror or isolation horror you need not apply
