"It was the music of something beginning
An era exploding
A century spinning..."

-"Prologue," Ragtime: The Musical

Fire Emblem: New Gears

The United Ylissean Halidom--a marvel of technological advancement. Steam-carriages trundle through Ylisstol, easing the commute between areas of the large capital, and even to other cities and outposts in the country. Powerful locomotives and dirigibles allow for easy travel to further parts of the union. Villages range in function from industrial factories to agricultural producers, and the security of the united halidom rests well in the hands of the Ylissean Guard, founded centuries ago by the Exalt Chrom (under the name of the Shepherds). Many people credit the current exalt, Chalys, for maintaining the peace and prosperity of the UYH, though it is the work of countless Exalts before her that made the nation's success possible.

The UYH maintains good trade relations with the industrialized continent of Valm and the traditional khandom of Ferox. Valm provides a strong defense service as well as many of the raw materials used in Ylissean factories, while Ferox maintains a "blank cheque" with the UYH in case of attack by foreign nations.

Even so, there are those who remain in opposition to the union of Ylisse and Plegia. Perhaps their union conflicted with certain economic desires. Perhaps traditional values, traditional relationships clashed with the modern union. Perhaps it is something more sinister that drives the contempt for what many perceived as progress.

We now turn to the twentieth anniversary of the Ylisstol Public Library's institution, where through the mists of steam and smoke an insurrection against the promises of the union begins...

Welcome to Fire Emblem: New Gears!

This is a steampunk-themed Fire Emblem roleplay, set in the continent of Ylisse during an era of steam equivalent to our world's own late-19th/early-20th century. Play as characters in this industrial nation and watch as the turbulence and tension between change and tradition test the very strength of the nation's unity. Take part in the crusade to preserve Ylisse's progress, and uncover the more insidious aspects of the desire for a return to the old status quo.

Here are the roleplay's guidelines:

  • All standard roleplay rules apply here as well (godmodding, metagaming, powerplaying, etc.).
  • Classes in Fire Emblem are quite balanced, but I would like diversity. What fun is an army of myrmidons, anyway? (Actually, an army of villagers would be pretty funny, BUT STILL.)
  • Skills listed on your character sheets are skills that the character WILL develop within his/her class. So please be reasonable in terms of story in where these skills develop, since it isn't exactly fair to have Pavise and Aegis completely protecting your character in the very earliest stages of the game, is it?
  • Also, be reasonable with weapon levels. If you need guidance on what weapon level is needed to use a weapon, consult the Fire Emblem wiki.
  • Settle disputes in the OOC without flaming each other.
  • Most canon characters are long gone by the time this story takes place; therefore, being a canon character is limited to aged manaketes and Anna.
  • Make sure you can manage all the characters that you have. I won't place a limit until it gets ridiculous.
  • Feel free to contribute plot ideas. As much as I would like to try, I can't come up with all this by myself. ._.'
  • If you have read these, write "I fight for my friends!" in the Other section of your character sheet.
  • Character death will happen. If you wish to be the cause of someone else's character's death, then get their consent before conducting your misfortunate business.
  • If you absolutely want to be on the opposition in the story, by all means, do so. It'll make everything more interesting. (I'd recommend introducing such characters when we get a little into the story so that the factions are effectively delineated.)
  • I will update class lists as we go along as needed. If there are any questions about classes, weapons, or skills, by all means, ask away.
  • If there's anything I missed or anything I need to clarify, don't hesitate to ask. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for all of you.

Take this post as an expression of my interest, and that I'm working on a character, but be forewarned: I write the hell out of things.

Few questions:

I. What, uh... Rank of Casual would you classify this as? (Mid/High/Low)

II. Is it safe to assume you'll throw our stats at us after finishing our sheets to your specification?

III. I always draw my characters. Always. Can I throw that down in lieu of a description or am I to double up?

IV. Safe to assume we're starting at level 5-10? Or, like, what's the plan with that?

V. Finally, is combat or character interaction going to take the fore? How much of this do you expect to be stat-fights and, conversely, the inter-character rapport Fire Emblem is known for?

Also, Tactician is super cliche, but I'd like to put myself down for it. You know, in case anyone's reading this and intends to fill around who picks what class.

@Shotgun Bear
1. I'd probably say high casual.

2. Stat caps will remain the same as Awakening, though I'm not sure how stat calcs work in Fire Emblem, so I don't know.

3. By all means.

4. Because of the aforementioned stats thing, we're going to need planning in terms of leveling.

5. I'm planning to have a balance between combat and character interaction, although I'm hoping for a lot of interaction in terms of supports, in between battles, and in-battle conversation.

...Is it usually awkward to have three RPs based on the same source matwrial going on at once? 'Cause if this takes of it'd be the third active Fire Emblem-based RP in this section...
