So the only way for ships to travel is through the use of talents?

Basically, everything is powered by crystals now. So that is used for short range. T-1 for long range. Lower talents for medium range.

So I'm guessing small ships are not common? And that my character would need to be a talent in order to use one?

Small ones for planet use are, small for jumps wouldn't be but you don't have to be a talent to pilot,just need a talent ready to send and catch the ship between warp points.

Oh, that would work. I'm trying to make him a bounty-hunter type, need a ship for that to work.

Yeah, he would be fine then for inter solar system travel. He would have a crystal drive to power it but would just need to hail a tower for jumps.
