Oh damn, this is going to be good! Also, just noticed the first gym leader will be a water-type. That seems like it would be convenient for Wim, at the very least help feed his ego.

Well, you can challenge the first 2 in any order since Needlesap Town is connected to both Route 1 and Route 2.

EDIT: Devon will have an ego no matter how many times he loses wins.

Well, with the lack of vast swaths of new pokemon upon entering a new region, I would say that they are needed to keep the general flow of pokemon. (sorry if I come off as a dick in this post, still in Devon mode :P)
