I'll introduce the scene, however it might be worth working out motivations now. It's in Anna's nature to just try and murder your character if he happens upon her, particularly if he's irritating. However, did you want to have a more poignant reason for combat? Anna could have been the cause of the ship your character was on ending up beached, or he could be searching the beached ship for some reason and happen across her on the beach? It's up to you.

I think it might be interesting if that ship was his ship and he was bringing it somewhere before she destroyed it, which of course killed everyone but him in the process.

Also.. she could have destroyed it because she was on it and he made some sexist remark and slapped her ass? lol

Hmm, alright, Anna was at the port where your character disembarked and he insulted her, she pursued him and vengefully attacked the ship while at sea, driving it onto the beach. Most of the crew fell into the sea or fled the area after the ship beached, and Anna leaves the ocean to murder First Mate on a more personal level.

That cool with you?

Haha, fair play First Mate's response made me laugh. Considering his archetype is pretty common in Arena that's no small feat these days.

While our characters abilities are done in completely different ways, they is certainly going to be a point in which their wills are tested against eachother.

How would you like to handle that?

Ultimately there is no doubt in mind that Anna's ability is the superior of the two.

I would think that The First Mate could manipulate water that Anna isn't directly controlling and anything she is controlling he might be able to effect very marginally?

Never really come across spirit energy vs hyrdokinesis before.

Well, loosely speaking Anna's power works through the medium of spiritual energy, which due to the strength of the spirit within her is fairly significant, but not absolute. Given enough time she can essentially influence water in one hundred feet in every direction. When your character manipulates water he's moving the water with his power, where-as when she moves water her 'spirit' is literally inside of it, and she's moving the spirit.

So, with that in mind, if Anna is directly manipulating water it would be incredibly difficult for your character to exact his own power on it, because every molecule is already infused with her spirit and he'd have to contest her for every inch, where-as water she isn't directly moving or controlling still has her spirit within it's not actually active. She can feel when it's being manipulated though, as was what just happened.

Point being, I'd say you're absolutely right, your character would have extreme difficulty counter-acting her movement of water when it's being actively manipulated by her, but he's relatively free to manipulate anything else. Essentially we'll just give the advantage to the attacker in every circumstance, my character (even if she has prior spirit infused the water he's manipulating) will have trouble re-asserting control over water your character is actively using, and vice versa.
