Current So I've learned that I have low-level adult ADHD, and that's helped me understand a little bit why I can never seem to stick with an adventure for longer than a month at a time.

I've started the process of writing an adventure book for my most ambitious GUTS+ campaign, and hoo boy, it's exhausting.

I'm attempting to make some one-page adventures for my GUTS+ system. We'll see how that goes!

I'm not a spambot, I'm just excited about my hard work on my app and I want people to not use spreadsheets to make conlangs anymore because that sucks!

My basic point is I want to make an RP, set in a universe with a very very large cast. However I want the group of actual players to be small. How can I make this work without limiting the interaction the players can have? [...] How do I control a massive cast of characters with only a few Roleplayers?
Blackbeard
Whoa, when I first looked at this post, I immediately turned away because I know nothing about Bleach and don't really care to and therefore didn't think I could be of any help. But I skimmed through again and found the real question, which I extracted above, which I think I might be able to throw some ideas at! Hopefully you're still watching this topic and see this. It might not cover all of the more complex concepts and plotlines, etc. in Bleach, but here's at least a place to start: What you can do is keep a massive document (or if you're experienced enough to make/already have a resource that can do a billion tabs of info or something) with details about every other character. For your sanity's sake, I'd say to only include important details, like Name, Appearance, Job, specific skills, and then condense every other facet of their lives into bullet points. For example: Name: Billy Flyhead Appearance: Stereotypical mechanic, slightly overweight, always wears overalls and has smudges of oil on his face. Job: Airship Mechanic Special Skills:
  • Can fly
  • Can speak ALL European languages
Personality Details:
  • Determined
  • Will never compromise his dignity, no matter the cost
  • OCD
  • Flaky
  • get the idea?
That's just a thought. I think the most important detail is to condense as much as you can and improvise based on "hot button" words/topics/ideas that speak to how the character would act in a given situation. Just be orderly so you can get the information quickly and easily. From there, you'd still have the difficult task of being the sole conduit through which these NPCs speak. If you allow your RP's players to view the document and link to a particular person every time they are mentioned, then maybe you can trust your players to speak for the NPCs and interact fairly with them as their own characters. A bit meta, but I feel like it would go smoothly if everyone understood that they need to be true to the characters if they speak for them. EDIT: Just re-read your post and realized this is more or less what you already said would be a problem. In that case, I would say to either just allow that OR split the RP into smaller tasks/scenes/sub-stories. You can have a huge, overarching story and world, but no character in the moment knows all of that. You can move from task to task, having a huge series of smaller stories that you go through one by one, or at the same time if you think you can juggle it... I'm not sure at that point, though. It sounds extremely complicated and potentially unnecessary to have this massive repository of fully fleshed-out NPCs if you're not going to be encountering all of them all the time... maybe just a few NPCs that you control per "scene" or sub-story? What do you think?
The Last Wizard
RP topic is here!
An Epics 'n Awesomes RP for 3+ players Genre: Adventure See the Epics 'n Awesomes handbook for full details about how this style of RP is played!
Story Pitch:
Wizards have always been trained to advise the kings of the land. They are taught all the history, wisdom, philosophy, math, science, and war strategies throughout their training. They are trained from age 13 until they are old enough to advise the king, and they are to remain solitary, celibate, and somber all their lives. Of course, because wizards have existed as royal advisers for so long, legends have developed around their mystery. Surely you have heard of the skillful and powerful magic they perform--magic that can keep monsters at bay and make enemies turn away in fear. Legend also claimed that if a wizard ever produced a child that the child would bring monsters to plague the land until the day it no longer remained. But of course there's no such thing as magic and certainly not curses. Not really, right? It has been 10 years since the most recent wizard was selected as adviser to King Albert. Wizard Sarkkus was different compared to all the wizards of the past, and the kingdom had been attacked twice since he came to office--once by invaders from the south and another time by a horde of monsters! Traditional law gives a wizard three failures before they are expelled from office and executed. So when the third attack came just three days ago, again by monsters, King Albert was forced to perform to a formal execution. After the traditional law was read aloud before a crowd of citizens, the king asked if Sarkkus had any last words. "Yes I do. I suppose it would be important to inform you all that I have a child." Gasps and cries of horror echoed throughout the crowd. Seeing the resulting chaos he caused, the wizard laughed aloud, beginning to levitate into the air, and, with a flash of fire, disappeared from before all of them. Just then, the roars and howls of ravenous monsters were heard from the east. And to make matters worse, the courthouse was on fire... If we get the required number of players, I'll update with a link to the RP! EnA is a pretty free playstyle (anyone of any skill level can play) with a few important rules, so be sure you know how to play once we start the RP. :)
That's a good point about the forum practically being brand new now. I feel like the prejudice of new vs. old members is kind of silly. Everyone was new once. As long as the new members try and just do as well as they can, they shouldn't be looked down upon. I feel like that goes for any setting... Anyway, yeah, I guess there's not really a particular cutoff point. It just depends on what everyone perceives and feels. Interesting...
Welcome! I'm pretty new to these forums, too, but hope you enjoy your time here like I have so far! The mods are pretty cool, and the main dev, Mahz, is very active and attentive to bug reports and feature requests, so you can always be sure that new updates are always coming (BBCode just happened yesterday, which is pretty awesome when you don't have it. :P So yeah! If you're somewhat of an RP veteran, I don't know if you'd be interested in my Earthbound RP, but if you want some fun with a simple battle structure, check it out! Also, I have a simple RP structure that opens up for a lot of silly situations based 100% on the roll of 2 6-sided dice, then check out the Epics 'n Awesomes handbook! I hope you don't think that sounds like advertising, because my main goal is just to let people know about it because I'm excited. :D Anyway, welcome again! And enjoy!
The Panicked Cactus flailed wildly and fell over in [Rolled 3] Harry's direction. [Rolled 6, yikes, first roll!] SMAAAAAASH! The Panicked Cactus connects, landing directly on top of Harry, leaving cactus spikes all over him. Hans went to Throw the Panicked Cactus off of Harry. [Rolled 3] Without much effort, Hans lifts the cactus and throws it a few yards, where it lands with a thud. Stewart, at the sight of his grandson being pummeled, shouted, "Come now, Harry, old sport! Let's not let this stop us! Stand up!", tossing Harry a Peppermint and retreating behind Hans' massive frame. The Peppermint is cool and refreshing, and it numbs some of the pain from the cactus spikes protruding from Harry's body.
In brackets before the action would probably work. Let's try that.
Well now that I'm thinking about it, I can't think of a way to have you include it without it being awkward in the post, so it's probably fine to leave it out.
Ronnie tried to befriend the cactus by introducing himself. [Rolled 1] The cactus did not seem to notice his outstretched hand as inviting a handshake and instead pricked Ronnie. Ronnie yelped in pain.
