[Game Start] The king, shaking himself out of his stunned disbelief, quickly shouted to everyone to help get water to put out the fire. It was questionable at this point whether the people ran out of the courthouse because of panic or to get help. You are all in the currently burning courthouse. You run out of the building to help get water from the closest well. As you approach the well, however, you notice monsters approaching from just beyond the well, and the men at the well already frantically trying to pull up water do not notice them! The monsters have already plowed through some people on their way, as evidenced by the smears and splatters of blood trailing behind them. Just as the men get their haul of water to the top of the well, the monsters are upon them... (In this first scene only, you can't die, even if you roll a two.) And here's a convenient link to the dice!

Sylvester grabs the men and take them away before the monsters attack. As they run away, he looks inside his bag for components and takes a few explosive ingredients out. Combining them inside a metal container, he shakes for good measure, hops back and... Well, obviously he's gonna throw, but suspension is import-THROWS! The explosion completely obliterates the monsters with a resounding 'Kaboom'.

[Rolled 6] The explosion leaves a deep crater near the well, but the well remains intact! Some more giant, round, bat-like monsters with one eye and huge, fanged mouths flying above avoided the explosion and begin to swoop down to attack!

Alphonse charged out of the courthouse as quickly as he could. It's not that he was a coward or anything, it was just that if he caught on fire he would take anyone near him down as well. It was for the good of the many that he ran... er, declined to fight the fire. But now monsters were coming. This was his job, and he was good at it(so far, anyway). He knew with that crowd he could only fire once before needing to switch to his sword, there was no time to reload. Alphonse got in range and pulled his gun from his hip, and fired at one of the bat-winged monsters. (Rolled an 8) The bullet passed through the monster, hitting it square in its one eye. It fell to the ground with a thump, moving no more as its dark blood oozed onto the ground. Alphonse drew his sword to continue the fight.

It was just days like these that she regretted ever setting foot in this kingdom. Datura couldn't help but sigh as soon as she took a step out of the flaming courthouse and into the monster-infected chaos. There were monsters rampaging all over with people running amok. With ashes dusting her clothes, she wanted nothing more than to go back to her hut and wash the soot away. Maybe if she slowly walked away...? Nope, that just wasn't possible - not with a giant bat monster coming her way. Gaping at the sight, she frantically grabbed one of her glass jars containing green liquefied "medicine" - the word "medicine" used very lightly since she has no idea what it does despite concocting it herself. Nevertheless, she threw it at the beast. [Rolled 7] CRACK! The jar shattered upon impact and splattered all over the monster's eyes, blinding it temporarily.

The courthouse continued burning, but the monsters kept coming! The monsters seemed to be getting smart, however, and were not attacking the three impromptu heroes who had fought back. The monster blinded by Datura writhed ground a few feet away from her, trying to rub its gigantic eye with its wings, two of the flying monsters were ripping at a man and woman who couldn't get away, and one hulking cyclops about twice the size of a man and four times as broad lumbered toward the well, too slow to have been incinerated along with the other monsters caught in Sylvester's explosion. It seemed that these were the last remaining monsters, but the courthouse was starting to collapse and cries could be heard coming from inside!

"OI, BIGGY! Uhhhh...SUCK ON THIS!" Wow, Syl, great one liner, Sylvester thinks to himself, you don't even have a bomb ready! "On the contrary, mind. I have SUPPLIES! ...Well, that isn't a bomb, but it can turn INTO one!" He was undoubtedly, confusing the cyclops. So he took out said supplies and a metal container. (Rolled a seven.) "Uhhhh, HEY BIG GUY! CHOKE ON MY BIG BALL OF KABOOM!" He throws the metal canister like a baseball... And the kaboom happens right on the cyclops' arm. Which promptly falls off.

Alphonse looked over his shoulder as he backpedaled toward the burning courthouse. "Hey," he shouted at his impromptu companions. "I can't exactly go in there! Gunpowder and all that. Someone should save those peas... people." As he spoke he was reloading his gun, hoping to shoot at that cyclops before it did too much damage. (Rolled eight). The gun was reloaded, and Al was ready to fire...((next turn))

"Rushing into near-collapsing buildings isn't exactly safe either!" Datura shouted back at the gunman, quickly backing away from the blinded bat monster. However, with one quick look at the one-armed Cyclops and the two winged monsters chowing on some folks, she huffed and started toward the burning courthouse - the semi-safer option. "If I die, I'm haunting your arse!" She took a deep breath and rushed through the burning doors. [Roll 6] Her clothes were lightly scorched. She had nearly set herself on fire with all those flames clinging to the doorway. "Ah crud," she stomped on the blaze that found its way to the tail end of her outfit, effectively putting it out. Nevertheless, she made it in one unburnt piece. "Hey, any people cooking in here?! Where the heck are you?" She called out, taking hurried glances into the fire.

The cyclops... [rolled 4] Looked down at its missing arm, now just a stump that was cauterized around a gigantic charred jag of bone, mostly unfazed by the explosion. It looked up at its asssailant and with a terrifying roar, it charged at Sylvester. [rolled 5] It stomped close, its arm flailing about, readying itself to slam down on its target. Suddenly, it tripped on the crater Sylvester's bomb had made earlier, planting its face into the cobblestone just to Sylvester's right and sliding until its arm bone lightly tapped Sylvester's shins. Inside the courthouse... [rolled 12--best case scenario] There were a couple of small, crying children huddled in the only corner of the courthouse that was not ablaze. "Help us!" "We can't get out!" "We're scared!!" They were bawling uncontrollably, but they were altogether unharmed.

Sylvester moves the arm away and takes out another capsule. He puts some ingredients in it, closes it, shakes it about, lights the fuse and drops it on the cyclops. Like a badass, he starts walking away. (Rolled a 10) The cyclops promptly explodes, all of its remains being incinerated the moment the capsule erupts in a loud kaboom. If there were any sunglasses handy, he'd have taken one and put it on, but sadly, there were none. So he settled for walking away from the explosion, before running away when it actually did explode. "FAT LOAD OF GOOD YOUR GUN AND BULLETS DID!" Sylvester yells at Alphonse.

((Rolled nine, power number!)) Alphonse was pointing his gun at the cyclops when Sylvester shouted at him. "Well," he said, shaking cyclops blood off of his arm, and not lowering his gun which was now aimed lazily in Sylvester's direction. "It would not have been half as messy if you had waited one second for me to pull the trigger." He shifted his gun's aim slightly and pulled the trigger. The bullet ripped past Sylvester and hit one of the last two monsters. It passed neatly through and embedded in the second monster, killing both. "Still," he continued drawling as if he hadn't just scored a sweet double kill, "I made use of the bullet while you were busy blathering." He strolled toward the fallen monsters, reloading his gun as he walked. As he approached, the man that had been under attack was getting up from his defensive curl, and extended a hand to help the woman up. Both were scratched and bit, with a few nasty gashes, but neither were vitally injured. The blood soaking the earth all around began to be washed away by a sudden rain, which steamed on the burning courthouse and lessened the flames. "Excellent," Alphonse said, holding his sword elegantly resting on his shoulders, and his gun ready and waiting in his other hand. "What else will rear its ugly head today?"

"There, there. There's no need to shout. Just follow me," Datura cooed softly; she made a poor attempt of a smile as her gaze were led astray by the blaze behind her. There was fire everywhere; so much that she couldn't believe her eyes when she saw a pair of children in a non-fiery pit of a corner. Nevertheless, she grabbed the youngsters, searching for a way out. [Roll 11] Suddenly, something hit her nose with a small DRIP. "What the--?" Datura wrinkled her nose and stared at the ceiling in disbelief. Above, small drops of water came leaking from the gaps in the roof, replacing the flames that had completely engulfed it. From the shattered windows, she could see sprinkle of rain that quickly turned into a downpour. Most of the fire that blocked her escape was soon extinguished into ember, leaving only debris and bits of burnt wooden planks. With a quiet huff, she led the children out through the front door. With water dripping all by now,she stared at the two strangers-turned-heroes, looking disgruntled. "Are all those monstrosities gone? Cause I wouldn't like to see these children turn into meals."

The flames dwindled into smoking embers that sputtered as the raindrops hit, and all of the monsters were gone. "Thank you, heroes! You have done a magnificent thing today!" The king emerged from hiding in a nearby building. "Much more magnificent than these fools!" he spat as his embarrassed guards shuffled out behind him. "Please, I know you have already done so much, but I must ask you to investigate this whole affair with Sarkkus. He lives in the Wizard's Tower to the east. Please, if you do this, I will reward you all handsomely [rolled 2], but unfortunately the supply house was destroyed as the monsters ran here, so I cannot supply you with anything you might need on your investigation... I apologize." The king's head bowed sadly. "I can only offer you one piece of assistance: the ancestral Wizard's Key." The king pulled an ivory spiral key from a string around his neck and handed it to Alphonse, who was closer to the building where the king was standing. "This is one of only two keys that can unlock the Wizard's Tower. The other key, of course, belongs to the Royal Wizard... Please, go and investigate the tower and find out what Sarkkus has planned so we can stop him!"

"IT SHALL BE DONE! AWAY, I SAY! TO ADVENTURE!" Sylvester runs off, key in hand, grenade in the other. It is several minutes before he returns. "...Which way to the tower?" He wheezes and sits on a charred log, leaning his head on his hand. The grenade is gone, and his hair is sizzled. He looks through his bag and takes out a couple of ingredients and a metal container, trying to make a grenade for later. (ROLLED TEN. POWAH NUMBAH!) He creates the most powerful grenade he has ever created, stainless, shining and pure white. A single teardrop drips from his eye. He stores the Awe Inspiring Hand Grenade of Awe in his bag for an emergency later...And pulls out a piece of bread, having a snack. "Sheriushlee ouh," He swallows the bit of bread he was eating, "Where?"

Alphonse held a hand out to Sylvester to take the key back, "As it happens, I know the way." He looked at the two impromptu heroes who had joined him in his usual monster slayer duties. "So, do you two actually want to join me on this quest? We have to trek to the Wizard's Tower, no small feat on its own, confront a former court wizard, and possibly his hell-spawn. We'll face dangers even I have never seen. So, answer, will you two be my squires?" ((Rolled a nine, power number once more.)) Not only did the two unlikely heroes decide quite gladly to join his cause, but the man that Alphonse had saved earlier approached sheepishly, having overheard Al's speech of danger. "I may be no fighter," he said, holding his hat and wringing it in his hands nervously, "But I can carry your things, or help in any way. I'd do anything to keep me family safe from them monsters." "What do you do?" Al asked the man. "I'm a wood cutter, a carpenter. Gerald the Carpenter, I'm called." "Excellent," Al replied, apparently not fully understanding what a carpenter actually does, "Get your largest axe," he pulled his sword off of his belt and handed it to the man, "And you can carry this for me as well." The man took it and walked off quickly. He returned in a moment still clutching the sword, and now also carrying a five pound wood cutting axe. "Come now, squires, we should move while we still have daylight." He checked the sun to get his bearings, and determined the right way to go. ((Rolled a seven)) "The desert would be quicker, but I think the forest is less perilous, and as I have novice adventurers in my midst, we shall take that way. Onward!" He started marching, Gerald the Carpenter behind him, toward the woods on the edge of town.

“Oh, the forest sounds nice.” Datura tilted her head in thought, looking slightly dazed. “It’s about time I should start picking more-- Wait…” She blinked several times; her eyes widened in shock. What the hell did she just agreed to? What was this madness? A squire. A squire?! She would not degrade herself to some squire. She was a doctor for Pete’s sake! “Wait, what? But I… I would never—I can’t go! I have stuff to do, so many things! I got a business to run! I’m no hero!” She flailed about, looking for any excuse. That whole courthouse/monster ordeal was a one-time deal. Besides, all she did was blind a bat and save a bunch of brats. She didn’t even save the brats per se; it was the rain that did most of the work! “You!” She pointed accusingly at the knight. “What spell had you cast to make me agree to go on this… this madness? My precious garden won’t last long in my absence!” Datura quickly pointed to her home where her valued garden – the one she spent many months growing... [Rolled 4] Unfortunately, the spot she pointed at was just a pile of ashes and chard bricks. The front yard – where her garden was supposed to be – was nothing more than wilted weeds sitting in mud due to rampaging monsters and herds of panicked villagers stomping all over it in panic. WELL CRAP. Quickly turning on her heels, Datura clenched her fists and made her way over to the forest.

And so, the three adventurers set off, as Sylvester didn't object at all. He was just tinkering with his ingredients and making sure everything was in order, so his bag didn't erupt in flames. It would be tedious, if not for Sylvesters experience in explosives. And just for that matter, he tried...Experimenting. (Rolled 7.) The explosive he created was decent enough and would serve him well on the journey. "Onwards!"

[Rolled 6] The forest sprawls before you for miles as you look out from the elevated city gates. Looking down, the path winds dangerously down a steep, rocky incline and leads straight into the old forest. In the distance, you can see the Wizard's tower glaring ominously at you from above the huge, ancient trees at the opposite side of the forest. The forest is populated with many different kinds of trees, and you can see a majority of oak, maple, birch, and ash trees filling out the canopy of the forest with several spruce and other tall pine trees protruding from the otherwise flat forest roof. Inside the ancient woods, the trees almost completely blot out the sun, making it perpetually dark with an occasional pillar of light passing through a rare wind-blown gap in the myriad leaves. About half way through the trees, between the city and the tower, there runs a mighty river 20 feet deep and 60 feet wide, and [Rolled 8] there is a sturdy bridge connecting the path on either side.

"As the knight in our midst," Al said to Sylvester, I think it right that I say things like 'Onwards' and 'halt' and the like...." He trailed off as he came to the rocky incline. "Squire Gerald, if you would, go ahead of us and ensure the path is safe." ((Rolled 7)) Gerald walked down the incline, skidding a little on some of the loose stones, but he managed to keep his footing. Alphonse, watching how he walked, repeated after him and went down the hill next. ((Rolled 6)) Al tripped at the end, but kept his bearings fairly well and didn't scrape his hand as badly catching himself as he could have. "Come on, then," he called up the hill to the others as he marched into the forest.
