I've always been intrigued by the Dragon Ball universe since catching random episodes of the old edited DBZ dub in my childhood years. Since then, I've built up this kind of patchwork knowledge by reading random chapters, reading websites and forum threads, borrowing some episodes and movies, and playing some of the video games. But for some reason I never actually sat down to experience the series in its entirety... until recently. I'm currently most of the way through the first anime series and I don't plan on stopping until I've finished the whole thing, warts and all. (I chose to stick with the anime and am going to be watching Z rather than Kai as I'm part of the bizarre breed of anime fan that actually likes filler. I know the reputation the Z anime has regarding filler material and pacing but I want to see it for myself, yeah?)
Since I'm posting this here rather than on a Dragon Ball fan forum, this means I want some RP. I have a few different ideas that I'd love to collaborate with a potential partner on and flesh out into something interesting. Working with any era of the series is fine as I do know the plot beats from the Z portion of the series pretty well through those years of weird semi-fandom osmosis I talked about. I'd like to play over PMs or possibly e-mail as I'm a very private sort of person. I tried Google Docs out once but it didn't really click with me, unfortunately.
I'm not really looking for romantic pairings as those generally aren't my thing. It seems so prevalent in fandom and roleplay, but it's not what gets me going. If romance develops during the course of a story, I'll definitely play it through, it's just rather low on my list of RP priorities.
If I were to rate myself on the writing system this site uses, I'd say I'm a High Casual to Advanced player. I'm pretty easy-going about post length though as I find an RP works best for me when I write what comes naturally rather than trying to adhere to a word or paragraph count. Some portions of a scene work better with short, snappy posts.
I'm in my 20s and I'd like any partners I play with to be at least 18. It's not that I don't think younger people can RP well, as I've been roleplaying since way before I was 18. Nor is it me judging anyone's maturity... I just feel more comfortable this way.
I'll play canon or OC. Some of these ideas are meant to be OC only, where some work best involving canon characters. With most of these ideas I see us playing a handful of characters each to populate the world and story.
Idea the First: Look out for Lunch! (DB and Z era, involves canon characters)
I didn't expect myself to fall in love with Lunch. To be honest, I don't even really care that much for her 'sneeze transformation' character gimmick! But I do genuinely like how blonde Lunch became less of a one-note joke as Dragon Ball went on... and I know all too well she's literally forgotten about during the Z era. Which got me to thinking... what if she decided to get more involved? I think it'd be fun to do an RP where she undergoes martial arts training and eventually fights alongside her friendsl. We can follow the original storyline, rewriting it to allow for her involvement, or do something AU where we come up with original villains or spin her adventures off entirely. As for dealing with her gimmick... I think we could rewrite it to where her milder form is a relative of hers, perhaps? I'm open to ideas, though.
Idea the Second: Another Tale of the Dragon Balls (Z era... sort of, involves OCs)
One thing that I find interesting about the Z era of Dragon Ball is how it leans more on the sci-fi elements you see glimpses of here and there in the original story. I think it'd be a lot of fun to do something set on an entirely original planet (or planets), with a cast of different aliens and another set of Dragon Balls. We could get in-depth with the world building, decide how much we want to parallel the main series' storyline elements, that sort of thing. I have a bit of an idea for an alien I'd play, but beyond that I'm wide open.
Idea the... okay, I only have two ideas at the moment. I'm totally open to hear others, though! I feel like the Dragon Ball universe has so much potential and... yeah, a lot of it's ignored by the series but that's the fun of RPing, AUs, and all that good stuff. I hope to hear from someone!
