My character's going to be in his 50's, so age won't be a problem (in one way... perhaps a little in the other?)

Technically, joining at 15 could work considering there may have either been a draft or not very selective process of getting every able hand into battle from a given area. Such details would have to be worked out in a Bio section, though...
