Bio

Hello! I'm a 20 year old professional ballerina and aspiring writer. I will be attending college next fall, for a musical theatre degree, and I want to explore myself as a writer while I still have a lot of free time to write. I have been RPing since I was 13, when I started with a Harry Potter story, and I've been writing fanfiction and original work since not long after that. I consider myself to be a high casual/advanced RPer... once I start writing, it's hard for me to stop! I had an account on here many eons ago, but I lost it and decided to start anew. My fandoms include HP, Supernatural, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Firefly, Merlin, Chronicles of Narnia, LOTR, SAO, Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, Pokemon, Marvel, DC, and countless others. I also am highly interested in anything that involves medieval time periods, magical creatures and fairies, or time travel.

Thanks for the updated description, @FateWeaver. I had noticed that you'd mentioned his hair is auburn in your most recent post, but I had Valencia describe it as a warm brown because she's not very close to where he's standing, and she's busy thinking about the person from her past whom he resembles. If they interact closer at some point, I can have her notice his true hair color. Is that cool? Or I can just edit that detail in my last post if it bugs you.

Valencia relaxed, but only slightly. Now that the clearest and most urgent dangers were easing down, she felt as though she could begin to get a feel for the lay of the land and the interesting group of characters around her. Reluctantly, she shoved her cutlass back into its strap upon her hip.

“I am a sailor,” she told the man who had been so sure she was a bandit. “A traveler, if you will. Not a bandit, and not a brigand. I go where the ocean takes me; though I must admit I never expected my travels to bring me to a place like this. I’m called Valencia Tempest,” she told them, also answering the questions of the other man who had introduced himself. “And I was adrift in a storm at sea before I awoke here.” Valencia watched as the gunman lowered himself to the ground for a moment, and she noticed that he seemed to be in pain. Since he was no longer a threat, she waited for the young woman to introduce herself, and glanced instead at Bishop.

“You’re injured,” she pointed out, nodding to the medium-sized cut upon his elbow. “Did some foul creature attack you? I don’t doubt that there may be more unnatural beings in this dream-like world.” Her gaze drifted over to where the flaming spirit had left a scorched mark of its presence. The knight and the other man, covered in many layers and yet unhooded, stood there, conversing. The knight had warm brown hair and a well-structured face. His visage reminded her of Nils…

Valencia felt her heart skip a beat. No. Of all the times to think of that rascal, this may well be the worst. Nils had been the only man to ever hold her interest for more than a moment—not that she would ever have admitted that to him—and had been incredibly adept at sparking both her temper and her heartbeat. He’d been too rash and nearly got Valencia killed, and they’d parted on bad terms, but he somehow always crossed her mind at the most inconvenient moments. Still… from afar, the armored man could almost have been his brother.

Reluctantly, she tore her gaze away from the knight, wondering who he might be, and resumed her usual pithy demeanor, waiting for Bishop’s reply while also remaining alert to the possibility of another dangerous situation drawing near. She had no way of knowing what could be lurking in the shadows, and hoped her cutlass, her skills in combat, and her swift feet would be enough to save her skin if another, more hostile supernatural creature engaged them.

Valencia’s dark green eyes narrowed as she silently studied the two strangers before her; especially the man who had just raised a gun against her. The air was filled with tension so thick that she could have sliced it with her blade.

“I spoke no threat; I asked a query. And I am no bandit,” she said tersely, analyzing his stance. He spoke truly—the most she could do if he fired upon her would be to dive to the side; and even then, a bullet would surely find its mark somewhere on her person. “I find myself in unfamiliar territory with no recollection of how I came to be here; surrounded by people whose intentions I have no way of knowing. Forgive me for drawing my blade for protection,” she added wryly. “Or perhaps you made no notice of the ethereal being of flames that potentially threatens us all?” Valencia jerked her head towards the fire-spirit.

Lowering her cutlass only slightly, she raised her eyebrows at the man, waiting for him to make a move. Keeping her gaze fixed upon him, she spoke to the girl, who had replied to her in a much less threatening tone than the man. “I won’t harm you, missy. Nor will I attack you, gunman,” she said to the one who still had his firearm ready to be aimed at her. “It would seem that we all have similar questions.”
Faintly, she heard another person address herself and the two she was already with. “…would you be so kind as to tell me your names and any information you might know about this place? And what was the last thing you remember doing before you got here,” he was saying. But Valencia’s attention was suddenly diverted as the fire-creature moved impossibly fast, first approaching the armored knight, and then facing the man who stood with him. In an instant, the spirit disappeared. Valencia blinked, to ensure she had indeed seen that. Now that the flaming being was gone, she whipped her head back around, cursing inwardly for taking her eyes off the barrel of the gun.

@Billsomething Nice! I'll listen to your picks for Valencia once I get home as well. From their titles, they already look pretty perfect.
Ooh this is getting interesting!! I promise I'll post as soon as I get home from my performance (writing this during intermission of The Nutcracker)
:) I should have a post up within the next 2 or 3 hours.
Ooh. Interested!
Sounds like fun! I am definitely interested.

Valencia stirred slightly before fully regaining consciousness. The last thing she remembered was using all of her strength to help keep that scoundrel Barrington’s cursed ship afloat as it crashed through the stormy waves of an unexpected hurricane. Valencia had warned him that there was a storm on the wind, but no; he’d insisted on setting sail for the Isle of the Setting Sun in search of treasure with no more to go on than the word of an unsavory islander they’d met in a tavern.

The first thing she felt was dirt beneath her hands. Valencia took a deep breath, moving slowly to ensure that no bones were broken. All seemed well, so she opened her eyes and sat up, surveying the area around her. She was clearly shipwrecked. Valencia expected to see a sandy island or the shore of one of the bodies of land that had lain between her journey’s starting point and the Isle, but her surroundings were completely unfamiliar. Beautiful though it was, this strange place seemed to be a field of sorts, surrounded by sparse trees, with an array of mountains in the distance and a far-off forest.

The most unsettling thing was that the nearest body of water was a river. Last she’d checked, Valencia had been in the middle of an ocean. There were no rivers around for leagues. And how did she come to be in the midst of a field, nowhere near a shore or the ocean?

“What in blazes…” Valencia muttered to herself. She heard distant voices, and leapt to her feet, drawing her cutlass with her right hand in a single movement. She turned in the direction she'd heard the voices coming from. Nearby lay a strange assortment of people she’d never seen before; all of whom were dressed differently than each other and seemed rather out of place amid this grassy field. It was as though they had all been dumped there with no rhyme or reason. Some were still unconscious.

In the distance, Valencia could see the figure of a man who was running away, and a more feminine figure in his pursuit. In the opposite direction stood a well-built man in full plated armor, and beyond him floated an ethereal creature wreathed in flames and darkness. Valencia felt her heart hammer into her throat. I’ll be damned, she thought to herself. A true and real creature of the supernatural. Perhaps I met my fate beneath the waves, and this be Davy Jones’ locker. She eyed the spirit warily, but it seemed to be remaining stationary, for the time being. Nearest to Valencia stood a girl clothed in strange garb who seemed to be just a few years younger than herself. The girl had one of her gloves off and was staring at the fire-spirit with wide eyes.

Valencia’s palms were sweating, but she pushed aside her fear and gripped her cutlass, prepared to use it if need be. She made sure to keep an eye on the creature and the knight, but she turned her attention to the other girl who was conscious. “You, there,” she called to her. “What do you know of this strange place? Speak quickly. I will mean you no harm unless you draw arms against me."

Tag: The quick-witted pirate with a gentle heart

About: Valencia is a 23-year-old pirate from the Golden Age of Piracy.
She lost her parents when she was a child and got into piracy as a way to survive, rather than slipping into certain ‘other’ ways of making money as a pretty young girl. She worked hard to prove her worth and make her way in the world, and wound up doing some things she wasn’t proud of. It wasn’t her choice to become a pirate, but that’s just the path life took her upon.

She has a habit of getting herself into trouble, and maintains a gruff, curt exterior so that she’ll be taken seriously, but inside still has the sweet heart she was born with. She does everything she can to hide her soft side—she knows that the moment she lets it show could be the moment she loses her reputation or her life. Valencia is skilled with a cutlass and carries an assortment of knives concealed on her person, but refuses to use firearms. She’s a survivor and will do almost anything to save her own skin, but she won’t raise a hand against those who can’t defend themselves.

Valencia has a sharp tongue and a quick temper, but she can think calmly and clearly in tense situations. When she speaks, she often comes across as brusque, because she can be impatient with people who don't react as quickly as she does. She’s never met a man who can keep up with her, and doesn’t care if she never finds love. Love is for featherbrained fillies, anyway. She just wants to become rich enough that she can give up her pirating ways and live comfortably.

Valencia has a question mark tattooed on her left cheekbone as a symbol that she doesn’t know who she wants to be anymore, but has accepted the person she’s become; and sports other tattooed marks on her arms and back.
