In the Past - Era Transitions - Moving to the Modern River

Many many years ago, there was the prior Era of Gray. It had ended similarly with the darkness covering the ground from astronomical events. The Platta in these times lived simpler lives, but it was not without incident. The mediator of all (gray) in this time was more active in the lives of every child around making sure the knowledge of the past was well communicated. The symbolism gathered from the eclipse made the Platta know it was time to prepare for painful times. As the mediator of all had phrased it then, similar to now, there was a time of extremes approaching. In the coming years, there would be a drought. The land grew drier, and water became scarcer.

In an attempt to resolve this, the Platta temporarily became nomadic once again to seek a more steady source of water. After a year or so of traveling, the present's spot near the river was found. Fish was more plentiful here, and so it seemed like a nice place. Although some Platta had died on the journey, and grief was lingering, this place showed hope. The first fish caught was examined in the grass near for its symbolism. From the Era of Gray to the Era of Black and White, this fish had shown the new era was to be of Green, a time of great life.

It would be more years before other colors had their era, including red for addressing new threats, yellow when some trees were slowly cut to make predators less common, purple to work with the procedures of organizing the wood, and blue for the study of the land around as safety had shown itself. Once these had completed, a new Era of Gray had begun. Not much time later arrives to where the Platta first showed themselves here. Of course, this is a summary.

I knew it would work. Also, gonna work my next post.

Good thinking.

As for my next post, I am thinking about a post that takes place in the distant past at the moment.
@Aweirdgamer

The talk of AI does raise my interest, especially when the uses for peaceful kinds depending on function could create ripples in the world of jobs and effect what would become obsolete for human workers, I am sure. I look forward to whatever demo you present.

The idea of using AI to replace human labor is already happening. It's quite crazy and amazing. A good video about it is here: youtube.com/watch?v=7Pq-S557XQU . For my own developments, I am mostly working on the angle of teaching AI science, knowledge, language, and social skills. This includes the scientific method so it may learn rather than be instructed alone. I chose this in part because through it, AI can understand and communicate about the world. It also is a friendlier direction because knowledge is inherently a cooperative effort. If the AI eventually gets as powerful as commonly feared, it would want to work with us. I doubt greatly that will happen like it is portrayed, though. For the demo, it will probably be more on the language aspect.

This RP needs a

I'll try. BZZZZT. Did it work?
I have been working with unexpected IRL drama, but it seems likely the worst is over for me now.

@Joegreenbeen @Father Dagon On the AI, it will likely come up again, especially once computers are invented IC. For non-IC items, I am working on many ideas right now. There probably will be an online demo available somewhat soon. I will link to it once it's available.

On the roleplay, I am waiting for others at this time.

Working my ass off while fighting to not throw up. Fun times.

That doesn't sound fun to me. Hope it gets better soon.

I apologize for not getting a post up in quite a while, I've been busy with real life and exhausted from work. I'll hopefully finish it soon.

I think we've all been busy. Understandable to me.

Honestly, I could put more thought into it. I did, though, make sure that they looked towards a brighter future for the Night-Walker people, as they are naturally optimistic, and a bit narcissistic even, which had been an important factor in the slow development up to this point in the hostile environment of the Homelands. Also, are you studying artificial intelligence as a concept or in its current usage? Its a quite interesting topic, and probably even more interesting coming from that angle.

For the Night-Walkers, that sounds like a good start to me. I don't think I have figured out the Platta personality very much yet.

For AI, a mix of both but much more so as a concept at the moment. I also develop it. AI is one of my biggest interests. Specifically from the peace and conflicts angle, some questions I have been exploring are about AI and law. Example questions: Why would an AI follow it? Should an AI follow it without exception? What rights should exist for the AI? As well as how the usage of AI can make a more peaceful or warlike world. I am trying to make AI for peaceful purposes. I am also doing so for future story ideas on and off here.
So, what's everybody up to?

Outside of the forum, I am researching artificial intelligence, and I recently finished a college course on peace and conflict studies.

Eh.. um... maybe? I was just thinking that it would look nicer to have quotes from certain characters to bring in the new era. Something that fits the mood of the time. Philosophical statements sound like they could be interesting with that, but unfortunately out of my writing ability at the moment, to come up with good stuff relating to each era.

I see. I think character sayings can be their own partial revealing of the philosophies of the era, too, though.

The Anderson thing was a reference to the Matrix, and wow, that planetmaker is complicated, good job finding it.

Also, I seem to have created an eclipse with words. I HAVE BECOME GOD!

Ah. I didn't recognize it. Thanks on the planet maker part.

Roleplay tends to make that happen.

I Hath Returned!

Welcome back.

I've been thinking about adding in quotes for every change in era for the Night-Walkers. Not an actual "real-world" quote, but one from the Walkers at that time. I may do that today. Anyways, I'm also making a post. It shouldn't take too long.

Do I understand right that you mean of different Night-Walker philosophies?

This Era of Gray

The era of Black and White had begun. This was marked by three main changes. The final piece of the hierarchical system had been determined. The newest discovery of Fiyam, the idea of a logical true or false duality. And the unknown black circle above the world.

Platta everywhere, including in the south, had halted their acts as the world became distinctly darker from the eclipse. Observing in the region of Nova (Sun), the change was apparent. In the south, the Platta wonder if this is an act of the unknown race. They watch how it is responded, too.

In all places, the symbolism is studied. The great blackness hints at a powerful change. It hints to all Platta the coming times will be of extremes. Extreme quiet or extreme pain. Extreme cooperation or extreme violence.

The mediator of all (Grey) kneels down alone while staring at the sky. Although, they are surrounded by other Platta, they do this alone. They state the relevance of the event from memory. "It is the time of another change. As last time the sky has become dark before the night, this is the end of this Era of Gray. The era of Black and White begins with all of its powers..."
After some development, here is a diagram, explanation, and some lore about established Platta mathematics. It is also available in the Character Sheet.

Branches Say

In the western exploration, the exploration continued relatively peacefully. The ones favoring hierarchical organization are no longer fighting but thinking about ways to add a role of black to aid discussions they would have. But it isn't clear for them on where to start. One then proposes what if the way was not to make agreement by consensus, but the decision makers always had the last word?

In the eastern exploration, the Platta working on division earlier (Fiyam) has been exploring the concept of drawn black trees with clear branches. They are doing this to see how something separates, and doesn't realize its other mathematical significances yet.

@Elitestpotato@Nerevarine
In the southern exploration, the Platta observe closely. Faw's actions are thought about but for now the Arsuron reaction is more watched.

At the same time, Kifam (dark blue), the writer, shows all around the book to make sure all Platta and Faw get a view. All Platta look closely. They don't understand the meanings due to the lack of shared language. A different Platta with a yellow cloth (engineer) who introduced themselves as Aylar, remembers the Platta who proposed means of how to write of mathematics at the last discussion. They are a little more aware of the relation to what is written. They still don't know, but the way the circles combine with the symbolism of complexity apparent, makes them see it more accurately than any other Platta present.

They explain to the other Platta, although all still could hear, "I sense that that book appears to be like Fiyam's work with the mathematical principles. Do you see how the circles show it? I think we should communicate over this to show common understanding here." Although as far as the Platta know, Fiyam is not a deity, but another Platta who happens to be mathematically inclined.

Wriz, the caretaker (dark green), gets a cloth that demonstrates the principles of mathematical writing. They show and give this to the Arsuron, and see what they do with it. Wriz also starts with saying a number sequence, to show the numbers beginning at zero. This is explained as well by gesture. With no pointing, they begin at zero. Then pointing at distinct objects as they go, they continue up until 10. They stop here to make sure things are understood.
