Satisfied that he wasn't on fire, Hugo turned to Skylar and Ember in turn, and took out the slip of paper given to him by the headmistress. He then showed the two his room number.

"I suppose I should go unpack. If either of you need something, I've got your back. I'll see you two later. And thank you, Headmistress, Mr. Disciplinary."

He nodded to the authority figures before setting off with his suitcase to find what would be his home for the rest of the semester, and perhaps longer.
It was... Painful. Somewhat. His suit wasn't burning, but it was very uncomfortable, and Hugo couldn't help but grimace and recoil slightly. Still, Ember seemed nice enough, and after a few moments, he returned the hug -- without allowing his hands to touch her. Burns on day one would be bad. He tried to smile through the pain and relapsed into rhyme once more.

"Suppose I've made my first friends, then. I'll stick around as long as I can."

With that, he very quickly removed himself from Ember and checked for any signs of scorched fabric.

"Does anyone know where I can pick up a flame retardant suit? I'd rather not be burned to soot."
RIP bluebunny
"Thank you. I would love to perform."

He gave a nod of appreciation to the Headmistress, then turned to Skylar. Bared fangs were a sign of... Aggression, right? He shrugged, dismissing the importance of the thought. There were rules, after all, so he was not likely in any danger.

"I'm just a new student, so it doesn't really matter if you trust me or not. Still, for what little it's worth, I can promise you I won't do anything bad."
"Thank you, thank you! And I was born to human parents, if that's the answer you're looking for!", he called across the field as he returned. Once back, he continued in a more reasonable speaking voice. "Truth be told, I overshot quite a ways. Bit of a long walk. Still haven't quite perfected that trick."
D'oh. Post was ninja'd.
Hugo noted the nod, and assuming that was his go-ahead, he let the music in his head back off of its leash -- a slow jazz piano piece. He found himself nodding along and gesturing with his pipe as though he were the conductor in charge of the piece.

Some humming and foot tapping set the rhythm of what was to follow, and he began to speak. The poem was a short one, but it carried power with it.

"From far away have I come to this place,
With the feelings of love and joy at my back.
Alarm, though, I have seen at the sight of my face,
And I know now I yet have to go far."

He hadn't moved an inch, and despite the small audience watching him, he was just as the poem said - quite far away. Nobody had blinked, and yet there he was, standing on the other side of the courtyard as though he had been there all along. A ghostly spotlight was shining on him with no visible source, casting images of pink flower petals upon a field of incandescent white.

The lights faded a few moments later, and he slowly started making his way back.
Hugo felt the urge to try to dispel Skylar's fears, though he wasn't sure how to do it. Concern crossed his face.

"I... probably shouldn't have said anything."

He brought a finger to his chin in thought. Perhaps he would need to prove what kind of human he was to gain some semblance of trust. With an audience, maybe a small demonstration would be in order.

"No need to worry. I'm not like most of them. I was sent here, after all. Would you like proof?"
Hugo gave a satisfied smile. The headmistress seemed to be an agreeable sort.

"Guess I'm the first one here, then. I'll try to make a good impression."

He tilted his head towards Skylar quizzically.

"Something wrong with it?"
He took the slip with a respectful nod and stowed it in his wallet for later reference. "Thank you, ma'am."

With that matter dealt with, he moved on to his next question. It wasn't a very important one, but he was interested in knowing the answer. "Out of curiosity, are there any other humans around here?"
