Appearance
Leto, like many Sephi, is towering and slender, with lean and taut musculature. His skin is of a dusky purple hue, and his hair, made up in the style of the Thustran nobility—pendulous, high, adorned with gleaming gemstones, with the characteristic V-shaped hairline—is a dark, burnt umber. His visage is stark, with severe cheekbones, pointed ears, an aquiline nose and hard lips; however, his eyes, molten and honey brown, soften what would otherwise have been a cruel and bloodless face. His manner of dress, as opposed to his opulent coiffure, is humble with all the bare essentials, similar to all Padawans: drab browns and greys, well-worn boots, and a utility belt.

Basic Computer Use: In preparation for their mission on Coruscant, Amalaa instructed Leto in the basics of computer usage, an aptitude she thought could prove useful in the labyrinthine Undercity. This training included instruction in the usage of spikes, as well as how to use some wearable interfaces.

Equipment:

-Double-bladed blue lightsaber, sleek and elegant, with gold accents.
-Utility belt (IRSOG issue: communicator, datapad, grappling hook, breather, rations, etc.)
-Interface visor

Psych profile:
Leto is charismatic, idealistic, and charming, with an uncommon vigor and vivacity that is nearly infectious. His wit, ambition, and humility has made it a simple thing for him to make friends, both with his fellow padawans and his teachers.
-Flaws/Weaknesses-
Idealism: Leto’s idealism is both one of his strong suits and one of his greatest weaknesses. There are many things Leto would like to do, and change, in the galaxy—this has led, much to the chagrin of his teachers, to an eagerness and nonchalance which has both endangered both his fellows and himself in critical situations, and which will no doubt endanger them in the future. It is thus no surprise that he was chomping at the bit to join Revan and, in his words, to become part of “a crusade of light”.

Hotheadedness: Leto is quick to anger and violence, something which his teachers have done their best to temper out of him as he has grown older, but which persists today. This incited the battlemaster on Dantooine to recommend Leto’s discipline in Ataru—an aggressive, highly acrobatic, but controlled form. This has led to Leto’s ascendance to a skilled and ferocious duelist, but some fear that without further instruction, Leto easily stray from the path of righteousness.

Proud: Born into the aristocracy of Thustra, Leto is very proud of his heritage, despite the fact that he has not seen his family or returned to Thustra in many years. During his early days at the praxeum, this could often lead to instances of profound haughtiness. Although this has been bred out of him both by maturation and instruction, and although he has been noted for his ability to consort with all types of people, it returns in fits in starts, and in different manifestations: his pride in his ability as a duelist, for instance.

Overall, Leto is a good-intentioned, outgoing, and talented Padawan—however, his ferocity, coupled with his arrogance, restlessness, and carelessness in achieving his ambitions may have the potential to make him a danger and liability to the mission.

History: Leto was born into an aristocratic line (distant cousins to the royal family) on Thustra, the homeland of the Sephi race. He lived a life of leisure and entertainment, but even early on his father inspired military sentiments in him, and imagined a career for him in the officer corps. The discovery of Leto’s sensitivity in the force at the age of five by a visiting Jedi called Master Yassa, however, changed everything. It is not an uncommon sight to see a Sephi initiate into the Jedi—but it is uncommon for one of the Sephi nobility. Leto’s ability, and his parents’ reluctant decision to allow him to leave to the praxeum, caused a sensation in the upper circles of Thustra.

He was taken by Master Yassa to the praxeum on Dantooine—far, far away from Thustra. Initially he experienced an intense longing and homesickness, followed by pride and arrogance, which, with time, melted into acceptance and curiosity in his newfound destiny. Naturally gregarious, he made fast friends with his fellow younglings, exploring the vast plains of Dantooine together and whiling the hours under blba trees. It was during this time that Leto began to excel as a duelist and force user, while his interest in the history of the Jedi, as well as the more ambiguous and abstract questions of the nature of the force, was markedly tepid. Upon becoming a Padawan, he was taken under the wing of the Togruta Guardian Amalaa, who was impressed by Leto’s ability with a saber and further instructed him in Ataru.

His apprenticeship under Amalaa, unfortunately, was not to last. Following the forging of his lightsaber at Ilum, the completion of his Trial of Skill, and a brief trade mission to Alsakan, Amalaa and Leto were given the dangerous task of recovering an ancient Sith artifact which had fallen into the hands of an antiquities and contraband dealer in the Coruscant undercity. Amalaa was confident—she felt that her and her Padawan could easily fight their way out of any situation if things got too hairy. They met with the dealer, and made an offer, which was immediately refused. Amalaa, being a touch more diplomatic than Leto, tried to bargain with the dealer, but giving into his suspicion that these clients might be Jedi, he called in his Dashade enforcers—and finally, things did get too hairy. Although Leto was able to recover the artifact, and escape, he noticed that Amalaa was beginning to fall behind. Suddenly, the rasterized staccato of blaster fire—and Amalaa crumpled. A Dashade sniper had delivered the finishing blow, and soon began to unleash a hail of blasts. Leto was not even able to collect his Master’s body.

This would serve as his Trial of Courage in the eyes of the Masters of Dantooine. Leto was, indeed, heartbroken, and uncharacteristically lugubrious for many months following his Master’s death. During the period of quietude in which a new Master was to be chosen for him, Leto began to hear whispers of Revan. Idealistic as he is, Revan’s philosophy spoke to him—taking action to make real change in the galaxy, defending the wretched, fighting against the partisans of the Dark Side! His lot was not to idly repose on Dantooine, following some Jedi about, whom he could never consider his Master, not truly, pursuing some trifling tasks. He was a sword of truth, a flaming brand of fury and light—he wanted to, needed to join Revan.

Thus, when Revan called the Jedi of the galaxy to join the Mercy Corps, Leto was first in line to enlist on Dantooine. Against the urgings of the Dantooine Masters, Leto travels to join IRSOG, and begin his baptism by fire on the battlefield.

Relationships and Acquaintances:
Valek Xannoh: The two faced each other in a training exercise ordered by the masters of their respective praxeums when the floating enclave passed Dantooine. Leto was impressed by Valek's unique style, and although he came out on the losing end of their sparring match, they parted on good terms.
Valsil Malki'na: It is obvious that, unless especially gifted, a Padawan cannot roam about a war situation in the absence of a Master. Thus, upon being assigned to IRSOG, Leto was put under the tutelage of a new Master. The process was, unfortunately, rather haphazard--the IRSOG brass are ambivalent towards the Jedi already, and certainly do not possess a fine grasp on the particulars of the selection of Apprentices. Thus, Padawans were randomly assigned to Jedi within the Corps--and it was by, perhaps, unfortunate chance that Leto was placed under the care of Valsil, a man almost his diametric opposite. Thanks a lot! I'll get working on that ASAP. Sorry for the delay again, as you mentioned earlier I've been busy with the holidays and preparing for finals. I'll shoot you a PM on my character ideas after I read up on the material!

In the mean time, keep developing that character and we'll soon see his debut 8)., I like all three characters concepts, but I'm not sure if the antagonistic mercenary captain, pirate king or the intelligence officer would fit well since they seem more like villainous types capable of murdering the protagonists and becoming counter-productive to the main story. These tales do not need more prevalent main antagonists as there are plenty of them, but the mercenary captain and bankrupted merchant are promising as long as they are protagonists and help progress the story line. I could certainly see a mercenary captain and merchant inspired by real life privateers such as Jean Lafitte or a Robin Hood of the seas. Hell, you could even combine the all characters types into one single character; just don't base them entirely off of anime characters because no offense to anime, but uhm ... I find a lot of anime characters very wooden, cliche, and without depth. I mean, love watching animes as much as anyone, but from my past roleplays, I've seen writers included cheap, anime-esque characters and the amount of one liner god-moding seriously disrupted the story. That being said, I encourage you to do some research on various historical figures and to incorporate those themes you listed.Also keep in mind that nefarious characters would likely be on their own when facing against nefarious foes and I can tell you for a fact that you don't want assassins on your character's ass or frequent betrayals at every turn. Carcassonne is volatile for a reason and moving alone as an antagonist will likely accelerate their own deaths very early into the story .With all this being said, keep throwing ideas my way! Ack! Didn't see your post, . All character ideas are perfectly acceptable, but I'm a little worried about the Amoral Assassin's motivations so send me a PM and we'll work on her 8). I encourage you all to collaborate with one another for inter-related character back stories and possible plot arcs! I'll be with limited internet access between now and late Wednesday, but keep sending PMs and posts and when I return, I'll try to answer everything with greater clarity ...

Thanks for your great commentary, GourmetItalia. It really helped out and I have a lot better sense of what I can do now--they were really just malformed ideas which I came up with when I got a flavor of the setting, so now I see what you're going for. I'm actually from Louisiana, so I know the story of Jean Lafitte very well. I will see what I can do and come up with an interesting character. Also: I take most of my inspiration from history and literature. That said, I do enjoy anime and concede that a great deal of anime has wooden characters and recycled archetypes; however, the character I mentioned (Griffith) is quite a well rounded and nuanced character, and also fits into the mold of a mercenary captain kind of archetype, so that's why I listed him. Don't worry, I value realistic, three-dimensional, and rich characterization above all else :) No god-moding, one liners, or mary sue here.

EDIT: I think that going for a mercenary captain and having a mercenary kind of faction would actually be a pretty good way to tie some of our disparate characters together. "Mercenaries get involved in state affairs" archetype is kind of used a lot, but I think it would be cool here. Just a suggestion, I'll shoot you a PM!

Wonderful! So I do need to read up a bit on the setting and lore which you've already posted, but I have three ideas for characters already:

--A mercenary captain (or pirate king, not really sure how nautical things are) hellbent on carving out carving out his own kingdom. Think Griffith from Berserk mixed with Kurtz from Heart of Darkness kind of deal. Ruthless, ambitious, manipulative. Kind of cliche, but could help underline themes of power, hubris, and class. That, or I could RP a character in the captain's band. Not sure.

--Some kind of spy/intelligence officer who works as a double agent against Valanian interests to fan the flames of war. Could be interesting if there are other spy characters.

--Some kind of merchant who defaults on his loans and is forced by his debtors into some kind of service (mercenary work, bloodsport, something, not quite sure yet)

So those are just some very nebulous and vague ideas; I'll read up on the background and tinker with them a bit later.
