How to get over writer's block?

@NuttsnBolts I like how you related it to music making. I am also a fan of DJ's music (though, of course, regular ol' physical instruments are great too). Thanks so much for offering me your advice. I think I will try out some new things, maybe read a new book. By the way, that Game Boy song was epiiiiic. @clark Editor's block, you say? I've never heard of it, but that certainly fits my situation. I think I do pressure myself a bit much about quality (though, admittedly, I'm not even all that great to begin with). Anyway, thank you for the post. I'll try to keep plugging with my writing but I won't overdo it or be as self critical. Also, I happen to be left-handed! I've noticed that it helps sometimes to write something down on paper first, then type it up so I can edit it if need be. Maybe because the physical writing stimulates my right hemisphere? Dunno. Interesting.

How to get over writer's block?

So, recently I've felt kind of... drained, creativity-wise. Maybe it's the time of year (which means I'll feel better once spring rolls around) or maybe it's because of this new creative writing class I'm in... Should I just force some writing out, no matter how bad it may be, or take a small break? (Though that brak might not be possible with my creative writing class.) I've tried such things as listening to different genres of music as a write, writing in silence, writing during different times of day, writing on a weekday vs. writing on the weekend... But to no avail. I know this should go away by itself eventually, but is there anyway to speed that process up? It just sucks when I read things I've written in the past and think, "I can't reproduce something of that quality right now." D: Also, yes, I'm very aware that this is something I could just Google, but I want to hear from personal experience. Any ideas?

Bolton High School: The Egg of Mystery.

Pierce was leaning back in his desk, zoning out as usual. The drone of the class went on, and his eyes drifted drifted from the clock, to the window, to the front corner of the room, and then finally they settled on the back of the head of the girl sitting in front of him, Theresa. She was a very eccentric girl, a very easy target for his taunts. He was in the middle of formulating a clever insult when the word "project" came out of the teachers mouth. Project? What? Immediately, his attention was fixed on the teacher as she explained the upcoming assignment. He frowned when she mentioned that she was assigning the teams. He had been planning to work with Jake or Andre, but of course, that was up to chance now. As soon as the teacher set up the poster, Pierce had been among those who dashed to the board to see the pairings. His eyes moved down the list until he saw it: Theresa and Pierce. That was kind of a letdown. Of course he was paired off with the weirdest girl in class. Though the quiet and weird ones were usually the smartest. Or so he hoped. He had already gone back to his chair when Theresa had stood up to "look" at the poster as well. She was the last one, of course, and was taking her good ol' time at it. Pierce didn't even know how she could read the writing with that blindfold over her eyes, but she seemed to register that she was paired with him when her hand dropped slowly from his name. He smirked. When she returned to his chair, Pierce leaned forward to get closer to her. "Welcome to hell," he whispered with a chuckle. "Just kidding, of course. Mostly." He sighed, and rubbed his eyes. "Let's just get this project done as quickly as possible, alright? Do you have any ideas?"

Pierce Tarantino

Name: Pierce Tarantino Nickname: None. Age: 17 Species: Human Gender: Male

Appearance

: i.e. your typical sports jock. Tall, strong build, etc. Personality: Pierce has an inflated ego and is very confident in himself and what he does. While a normal amount of self esteem is healthy, Pierce has it in excess. He finds it humors to pick on others and, really, doesn’t feel much of anything about it. His intention isn’t always to hurt per se, but simply to get others to chuckle at him. Despite his rather bro-ish disposition, he is actually pretty smart, though he doesn’t like to showcase this quality. He is a critical thinker, and excellent at analyzing situations swiftly, which is why he’s so good at playing sports, especially football. Bio: Pierce is the first child of Mark and Jasmine Tarantino, and the older brother of Destiny Tarantino, age 15. His father works as a physical therapist and personal trainer, and his mother, a nurse. Pierce always liked sports as a kid. He played his fair share of soccer, little-league baseball, basketball, football, and even lacrosse. When he got to high school, he decided to join the school sports team. It’s hard to balance with his schoolwork, but he somehow manages to get by. He’s good but he’s not the best, hence he doesn’t think he’ll play any of these sports in college, at least, not D-1. Family: Mark Tarantino (father), Jasmine Tarantino (mother), Destiny Tarantino (younger sister) Friends: Jake Campbell (from football), Andre Smith (also from football) Loved Ones: Apart from his closest friends and family, none.
