Honnerian Denouncement

The Honnerian denouncement of Sociatatem did not come as a surprise to Kevin Notles, but that did not excuse the action in itself. “The Honnerian people are in decline, and in this decline have looked for an enemy. Someone to blame. They say we hurt Honnerian pride, when they fail to recognize that they insult Soroyan pride. We offer reparations. We offer a fix. They sit there surrounded by enemies, and only look to make more. Well I say this. As of today we shall close any and all relations with the Honnerian people. We will not trade, aid, buy, or sell. Today we officially embargo Honneria until apologies are made for this grievous insult.”

Rifle’s for Haegye

After much consideration the Soroyan government, though finds itself at war, has decided to sell 20,000 Bursk MK IV rifles to the Haegye government in exchange for 5 Billion GNP. The foreign minister of trade has informed the Haegye government that it will take a small amount of time for the shipment to arrive however as all Bursk MK IV’s currently in Faresia are being using. He hopes that the inconvenience does not bother them.

Letter to Emperor Shayaer Khatis

Dear Emperor Shayaer Khatis,

I have no intentions of involving myself with the bombing or invasion of the Anvegadian coast. However this is the best I can promise from my people. War is often a difficult time for us all, and I can only hope that it ends as swiftly as possible with a Soroyan victory. We pride ourselves with our colonial empire, and as a country that had once stretched the continent of Serranthia, you must admire that accomplishment.

On a lighter note I hear you enjoy the Soroyan play “The Violet Rose,” some spectators even rumor that you shed a tear. This brings joy into my heart that those outside of Soroya can see the beauty our people bring into the world. I truly hope it was a joyous performance. In the future, under better circumstance, I would find it a momentous occasion to attend a similar performance with you. I wish the best of luck to a fellow king and lover of the arts.

Sincerly,
King Hann-Riechmanus II

The SRF Vulture

After much consideration the Soroyan government has chosen to seize the Honnerian pre-dreadnought with promises to pay them back entirely, even with an offer to construct a new one. Prime Minister Kevin Notles officially stated “It is a dreadful occurrence when we need to go back on deals made long ago, but situations call for dreadful actions.” Soon after they renamed the ship the SRF Vulture.

Faresian Crisis

After much consideration the Soroyan government has decided to recognize one of the two claims revealed by Survaekom Archeologist. After deciding to pay the 55 Billion owed to the people Nakashisaki, Prime Minister Kevin Notles has refused to recognize Xian’s claim to the land stating “We were leased this land by the Yong Dynasty, a dynasty no more. The Xian Republic is not the rightful owner of these lands and they shall remain under Soroyan control.”

Troop movement in the colonies
After the recent war in Faresia, thousands of Soroyan troops amass at the Yamarano border, some report even note that they are building trenches. Prime Minister Kevin Notles sent a secret request to Basai asking to move several thousand troops into their border to prepare a defense against the Yamarano army. Stating “it is the duty of Sociatatem to defend the right of nations to exist in peace. We humbly request to defend that right in your own lands. Our colonial troops for now will have to do, but reinforcements are on the way. Hold off Yamarano as long as possible, we will not fail you.”

Shortly after sending this message Flulin troops began moving via transport to the Kendris region, and several thousand Bursk Model IV rifles, Cruska Guns, and Keizer Guns move from the mainland under the guise of food to support the Faresian colonies. Though, as Yamarano will soon find out that this is only partly true.

The Violet Rose

"But what is death? Some call it an end. Some a beginning. I, peace. Peace from the sorrow of living. Peace from the pain of rejection. Peace from the ache of the heart. Death is but one thing to me. My savior." The violet rose was a classic the second it was written by famous screen writer Egbert Jannes. It depicts the tale of a man named Lennerd Polisen, born ugly and rejected by everyone man, woman, and child he meets. Over time he becomes obsessed with wealth, initially believing it to be his savior, but as life moved on nothing had changed. Life was just as miserable and lonely as when it began. In the final scene, he destroys what wealth he had left and takes his own life shortly after.

Kevin Notles wins a second term

After recent debated over the political ideology of Sociatatem, Prime Minister Kevin Notles had won reelection, and is now serving a second term. However this wasn’t won easy, a hardline interventionist named Michiel Kraus, dissatisfied with Kevin Notles’ recent laissez faire attitude towards Honneria’s war against Survaek drew many eyes and won votes. However most satisfied with Kevin Notles’ current government chose to vote safe.

Once he had won reelection he gave a speech commenting on the recent events over the past five years. “Over five years ago I came into office with a single dream. A dream that I, as many of you have seen, am close to realizing. That dream was to see a better world. One free of death and destruction. One free of discrimination and hate. One free of evil men and dangerous nations.

That is why I created Sociatatem. So the voice of the little man could be heard. So the lives of soldiers could be saved. Some have already criticized the actions of Sociatatem, even our so called allies in the south. However, I did not start this to intervene in the affairs of a far off place in a far off land to protect oil for some far off nation. I did not start this to see the world give in to Soroyan influence. I started it to see Soroya make the world a better place. To draw lines when necessary, and to fight battles when necessary.

They say that I could have saved Honnerian land, Honnerian men, Honnerian pride. Well I ask doubters one thing, what if it was not enough? What if Soroyan men joined them on the battlefield, what if Soroyan fleets fought the Survaek Armada, who are you to say we would have succeeded? Who is to say that we could won that war? The question we should ask, what wars are worth fighting. The battles we pick to win or lose will ultimately determine the fate of Sociatatem, so I say we pick them wisely, and Honneria was not a wise battle.

Thank you for showing your support for this greater cause. Soroya shall not regret its decision.”

Sociatetem! Peace in our time.

With the announcement of the Societatem, came a speech from the Prime Minister Kevin Notles himself, “I’ve come to you bringing news and with that news a sense of hope. Hope that we will see a bright future where we live in peace. Every man, woman, and child, can proudly claim that they have a birth right to freedom and the pursuit of happiness.

I, Kevin Notles, and the people of Soroya, humbly ask any nation that shares this sense of responsibility towards your fellow man to join us in this quest. With this request, I bring a warning. Nation’s with villainous intent, one that would see it’s fellow man brought to their knees to beg for mercy to that of a mad king or dictator, that we shall do everything in our power to bring a stop to your reign.

Lastly, I bring a gift. The gift of god. Because it was god himself that sought to give us the right of free thought. The ability to challenge others. The ability to rise up against our oppressors. We, the people of Soroya, intend to see this gift given. To all people. To all races. To all ages. To all people. And with that, I bid you farewell.”

Injustice in Soroya! Freedom of speech under threat?

After the recent arrest of Osmadi revolutionary Ayyud Ba-kabir, many local newspapers have reported this to be an injustice. The colonial governor of Serranthia however has only made a single statement on the issue, “He was arrested for disturbing the peace, and disrupting the people's freedom of movement, a law that has been around for several hundred years. His time will be served, and he can then continue to protest whatever issues he sees fit legally.” This however has not turned away many journalists, as some continue to claim this to be a blatant lie.

Honneria in need.

Though the Prime Minister refused to intervene in the current war against Honneria stating “If you are unable to take proper measures to defend your colonial land from foreign powers then it is perhaps best in the hands of those foreign powers. However, if they call in allies with the intention of taking more than colonial land, I will gladly aid your people.” The conversation was quickly dismissed shortly after.

Trade ship sunk?

After the recent sinking of the STV Hafas, a joint investigation between Deltora and Soroya was quickly organized. While the Deltoran’s investigated their waters at home, Soroya shall question the crew. After all seventeen men have recovered investigation on Soroya’s part will begin immediately.

Offer to build a pre-dreadnought

After reviewing a recent offer sent by the Honnerian government, the current minister of foreign trade and diplomacy, Walter Scholte in't Hof, gladly accepted the deal. Official statements on the topic seemed to be entirely focused around the payment for the task, rather than helping out Honneria. He was even clear as to state “this is a simple business trade between two nations, nothing more and nothing less.”

Cruska gun

After the recent completion of the Cruska gun by military theorist Maxwell Cruska, the Soroyan government plans on supplying the army with machine gun weaponry by next year. Nations such as Deltora have already begun looking into the guns production, and in an attempt to further their relations with Deltora have gladly accepted the offer to supply their army to. However they made it clear that this deal can not be discussed further until the weapon has begun production.

Black-Gold in the colonies

New’s of possible oil in Flulin reached all of Soroya, as a result many prospectors and businessmen have begun surveying the area around Flulin in hopes of finding more. Though there is no guarantee that more will be found, many citizen’s feel that this could change the entire economic situation for their city.

Grand Opening of Kavarri University

Kavarri University the first ever private university in New Soroya had recently opened. The current principal, Justen Veeneman, publically announced that it will accept anyone no matter their nationality or foreign background, so long as they met their academic standards. Following his previous announcement he made it clear that they will begin accepting applications next month, and have student in class by fall of 1901.

The voice of the people are freer than ever in Soroya, and yet their shouts seem to only get louder. With every right granted, two more issues of freedom take it's place. The kingdom of Soroya often finds itself struggling to meet all these issues, but can only move forward into the darkness. Seeking what future lies ahead.

On the issue of indentured servitude

After much discussion over the past months over the treatment of indentured servants in the colonies the current Prime Minister Kevin Notles has pushed for the Labor Act of 1901. This bill will focus on the treatment of citizens within the country no matter their age, skin, or wealth. There are four acts within the document:
1. Indentured servitude will be made illegal in both the colonies and at home.
A. Anyone caught in violation of this act will serve 10 years minimum
B. All currently owned Indentured servants will be released from their care, any owners will be compensated
2. Workers must be paid for their services in any form of labor.
3. Children are not to be abused in performing dangerous tasks.
A. Heavy labor jobs are illegal for children under the age of 16. These include heavy lifting, sharp objects, deadly machinery,
or life threatening situations.
B. Children must be paid equal pay to that of an adult performing the same task.
C. Exclusion from section B includes agricultural work on family farms as long as work isn’t taken priority over school.
4. All Children must be accepted into district assigned public schools
A. Children can’t be discriminated in any scenario involving wealth, race, or nationality

Though not officially enacted, it is expected to pass in the largely liberal parliament currently in power. After it has gone through parliament, the king must officially approve the document, but much like parliament it is doubted he would do so.

Osmad protesters

After nearly 100 years of occupation of the Osmad region, protests weren't uncommon. While the time of independence had been forgotten by these people, their national identity had remained strong. A problem the Soroyan government has dealt with countless times, yet now they are asked the question, "what if the enemy doesn't fight back?"

Though news of Osmad protesters had reached the capital, Kevin Notles was reluctant to do give into their demands. “Sir, what should we do?” Asked General Joep Eupe, age 56 he is a well known and esteemed military commander in the Soroyan army. He was worried that this situation would lead to military intervention, however Notles wasn’t as worried.

“Arrest the leader of the group, Mr…” he paused for a second trying to recall his name.

“Ayyud Ba-Kabir, is his name Prime Minister.” The general interrupted.

“Thank you. Arrest this man for disturbing the peace and disperse the crowd. He shall serve his time and we then will release him.” The general simply saluted, and left to carry on the orders. It will be swift and the crowd would be dispersed as peacefully as possible. If things however got violent, the general was prepared to order the execution of any in the crowd.

Treaty of Evemont

The delegate was surprised by the offer to stay in the capital to witness the launching of the TPS “Mettle”. Soroyan’s often had a fascination with ship building, often looking up to Zellonian craftsmanship, and he wasn’t the exception. He quickly accepted the offer, but notified the Prime Minister that he couldn’t stay long after.

Submarine lay’s down it’s first keel

As tradition in Soroya when a submarine’s keel is first laid down, so shall its name. Submarines in the past have given female names, often named after the wives of the captain expected to take the ship, this one was no different. Named SRF Merel, after Merel Berkhof, Huibert Berkhof’s loving wife and future captain of the SRF Merel.

The Cruska Gun

With new and advancing military, an unknown military theorist named Maxwell Cruska has began work on a fast firing gun. With close eyes watching his progress, the Soroyan military has fully begun funding the development of this weapon. Official statements have been few and far between, often stating “This will revolutionize modern military.” Some generals however fear that this will any sense of honourable warfare.

Zello-Kalpian War

People spotted several transport ships leaving Soroyan port this morning heading towards Kalpia. Official reports have stated that it’s purpose is to transfer the newly built Sirilt 99 Bolt-Action Rifle to the Sarelian Colonies. The true purpose however is unknown to the rest of the world. In a striking deal by the Kalpian President the Soroyan ships will be used as neutral trade ships supplying the Kalpian colony during the war.

While not truly invested in seeing the downfall of Zellonia, the offer was simply too great to pass up. Official documents, unofficial to the public, state that after the war Kalpia will give 5 Billion of their GNP to Soroya for the next four years as reward for helping in the war.

When Soroyan ships arrive in Kalpian port they shall transport several thousand Sirilt 99 Bolt-Action Rifles, 40 LACRs, and 20,000 Kalpian men. When they are expected to arrive in the colonies however is unknown. The ships are escorted only by a single destroyed, the SRF Ayas.

Description
The people of Soroya originated from the Island of Soroya named after the term given to the people of Soroya, Soreans meaning "Sores" in early Sikean, used to describe the terror they caused during mainland raids in the early 9th century. The Soreans were lead by Torgjest "The Skeleton King", nicknamed after both his tall yet thin stature, as well as his love to keep the fingers of fallen enemies. Under his leadership they conquered land from Sikean region, and parts of modern day Mille-Sessau and Deltora. This empire however was short lived, as he died with no heir, and the lands soon fell out of Soroyan control.

One hundred years of chaos ensued as various men writhed for control, it wasn't until Duke Greger before the Island of Soroya was united once again. Adopting feudal political structure he claimed to be Duke of Soroya marking the first use of the word Soroya rather than Soreana as the name of the island. At the age of 46 he died due to unknown causes, however he lived to have two sons Peter and Andries, both of whom would control the duchy at some point in their lives.

After the death of Andries, he passed the duchy down to his son Peter II whose ambitions were that of the Skeleton King himself often given the same nickname by the Sikean and early Deltoran people. During his reign he saw the restoration of the Sikean land into Soroya, and claimed the western shores of the Ekon region. Though no official records claim this, it is agreed by historians that this is the official start date of the Kingdom of Soroya, rather than the Duchy.

Over the next forty years, under Peter II's son Jochem I claimed most of what is considered modern day Soroya. It was under him the official capital of Soroya moved to Sikea, in an attempt to expand influence into Soroya's mainland territory, however many Soroyan's even today consider Eania to be the cultural capital of Soroya.

A little over two hundred years ago two major events took place in Soroya. First King Roelof III officially began the parliament after an uprising by the nobles of Soroya and threat of civil war. Thus beginning Soroya's transition from a absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. Second Soroyan explorer Kees Theselink discovered a land called Faresia, thus beginning what is known as the Colonial period in Soroyan history. A time of mass colonization of Faresian, Sarelian, and Serranthian lands.
That was from the first map. Sorry, sorry! It's been fixed. Check the last post in the IC, a few new things have happened.

It is ok. I hope I'm not giving you a hard time over it.
