Two boys that ended up sitting near her discussed their abilities as if it was entirely normal. Maybe here it is. Wouldn't that be nice? "So let me get this right," she interrupted, "Leo with no 'N' can make anything? And Leon with the 'N' can...be super fast?" She chuckled to herself. "I can remember that." she paused slightly before continuing. "I'm Haven. I'm new, if you hand't noticed. Are you both new? Or have you been here for a while?" She leaned a bit closer so as not to draw too much attention from the rest of the kids. "And why is everyone here so quiet?"

This isn't going to work. We're all going to die. Haven took her small piece of metal and shoved it into the neck of the nearest zombie. It sputtered a bit before falling to the ground. Two more undead jumped in its place. "Guys! This isn't going to work! We're going to die! We need to get back inside and barricade ourselves! Guys!" she shouted to anyone who was close enough to hear. She swung her fist out and pummeled the body in front of her. She started backing toward the school as more and more zombies closed in. "Guys! We have to get back inside!"
I'm interested.
Haven ignored the small talk at the end of the table. She eyed the young girl picking at the fruit, noting the child's expression. It was as if she had never eaten fruit before. Maybe she hasn't. Haven often had to fight off the bigger children at the home previous to this one in order to save food for the smaller ones. Of course the parents at the home didn't care who ate what. Neglectful parents were a constant in Haven's life and something she never saw changing. Just a few more years and I can be my own authority. No more relying on anyone else. She picked up an apple she saw within arm's reach. She started running the fruit along the table, cracking the skin, and planning an exploration of the house after she ate.

Haven walked through the door opened by the housekeeper. The woman didn't say anything to Haven before addressing someone else in the room. That was unexpected. I could be a murder or something. Unless she can read my mind... her thoughts trailed off as she took in her surroundings. There didn't appear to be as many children here as there were at the other home she had been to. In fact, the few people she could see all appeared to be at least her age with the exception of a small girl she could hardly see sitting at a table across the room. It looked like people were sitting down for breakfast. As if it took her acknowledgment of the food as a signal, Haven's stomach growled. She decided to forgo any niceties and made her way straight for the table. She sat on an open end, without looking at anyone specific.
Name: Kansas Carrington

Gender: female

Age (11 to 18): 17

Grade (6 to 12): 12

Sexual Orientation: generally heterosexual, occasionally bi-curious (she's discovering herself)

Appearance (pictures aren't required, but are recommended):

Personality: Kansas is honest to the point that she is blunt and often puts people off. She likes to have a good time but usually drinks too much . She doesn’t judge anything about anyone. She likes to learn and will question everything. She is vegetarian and health conscious (minus the drinking part ;) ). She can be very private when dealing with her emotions and doesn’t always open up about herself easily.

Bio (at least a paragraph): Kansas grew up in a wealthy, conservative family. Her parents were both scientist who fell in love in college. Her father started many biological research foundations in her brother’s name - a twin brother of hers who died of an unidentified illness when she was 5. She was raised in a spoiled manner but always felt as if her parents missed having two children. She was put in every available theater production and pageant her mother could find but she never took to them as well as she took to dance. She became obsessed after her first class. She has always had a lot of friends but has never had a best friend. She has attended private schools up until her senior year, when she convinced her parents to let her try a public school for the “experience”.

Skills (for every skill, add a weakness): Public speaking, leadership, proficient dancer (agility and situational awareness)

Weaknesses: constant anxiety, fear of being alone, pushes herself to extremes for perfection

Extracurricular Activities (football, cheerleading, chess club, gymnastics, band, etc.): School dance team, student government, prom committee, national honor society

Inventory : School Uniform, School ID, purse, day planner
The police officer in the passenger seat shifted nervously. He was a rookie and it showed. He'd clearly never dealt with people like Haven before. His partner looked at him from the drivers seat and an amused smirk crossed his face. "Relax Carrington, she's not lethal. Nah, she's a healer" He spit the word as if it was a joke. His eyes met hers in the rear view mirror. "Aren't ya kid?"

Haven wasn't sure if he was asking if she was dangerous or if she was a healer but either way, rolled her eyes and went back to looking out the window. She clutched the worn denim backpack in her lap a little tighter. She was nervous as hell but there was no way she was letting these men know that. Predators could smell a nervous prey a mile away. She didn't know if these men were...predatory...but she wasn't going to chance it. Bad stuff happened before and could happen again.

The patrol car pulled up to the entrance of the orphanage. The officer in the driver's seat got out of the car, made his way around the back and opened Haven's door. "Here ya are, sweetheart. They know you're coming so you just gotta knock." Haven stepped out, a twitch of a smile threatened her face when she realized Officer Scaredy-Cat stayed in the car. She slung the bag on her right shoulder and stepped to the door. The officers left before she even lifted her hand to knock. Well, thanks for the ride guys, she thought. She was clearly on her own now. Here goes nothing. She lifted her clenched fist and pounded on the door.
Everything was chaos around Haven. It's happening? It's really happening? Her memories flashed back to the night her mother was murdered. The mysterious man she saw in the car across the street from her house. He told her it would happen.

"And who here knows how to fight?" Hayato's words snapped her back to reality. He continued speaking but Haven was too mesmerized with what seemed to be happening. She stood straight and pushed her shoulders back a bit.

"I, uh, I can do something. I'll fight. Whatever. Whatever you want. Just tell me what to do." She shifted anxiously. Please don't make me heal anyone...
