Curious, how does the knowledge block on Mayt work? Without magic to sustain the spell, wouldn't it just disappear entirely?

I don't know enough about magic to know how to answer this. But right now, for all intents and purposes it's still there. As I understand Fairy Tail magic, the spell is still there it just has no power to remain active, and since it's 'deactivated', it'll either take returning to Earthland or having his mother re-activate it for it to start working again. (So using an X-Ball would have no effect on it) Edit:

Mayat --- Edolas Phoenix Wing

Mayat watched Edo-Sayuri, so that if she dared try to cause trouble Mayat could stop her. "It's not like we have any say in the matter. You're going to do what you're going to do regardless of what we say is what I think. So make up your damn mind and go already." Her voice was harsher than she meant, but her true feelings, regardless of what they may be, weren't apparent on her face at all. She pointed out where the lemon juice was for Edo-Sayuri after Sasha said they had some, saying nothing to her.

Mayt

Mayt smirked a little. "There's a reason she locked it away. Besides, I don't think I'll forget immediately. I'll probably have to ask her to re-activate the spells and such that kept the memories at bay." He sighed a little and wrung his hands. "A lot of it's supposed to stay secret anyway." Mayt glanced back as they were starting to be herded onto the legion again, and he gave Sasha a thumbs up before going and climbing on, much more dexterously this time around, and smiled at Sasha once he was sitting comfortably on top.

Earthland

Melina --- Kabo Train Station

Melina graciously accepted the ticket James bought for her, smiling. "As I understand it, your magic would simple cease to work if you were to really change who you were. However, I haven't met a lot of poor people face that problem, only read about it, so I could be mistaken." She leaned against him some, looking amused. "To be honest, I haven't had a good deal of friends worth protecting in my life."

Mithera --- Mt. Hakobe

Mithera watched the dragon slayer, and followed him inside the cave as he told her to follow. And she settled not far into the cave, near the wall. "I've been flying around most of two days without food at high altitudes, so it's only natural I'm tired. As for him, I believe he's been hit in the head a couple times and used a good bit of magic." She pushed Karn towards Zero with her snout, before lifting her head back up, watching the man. "And he'll likely give a better rendition of events than I."

Mayt and Sasha were talking. Lazarus didn't respond to the earlier greeting, and suddenly jumped him and Sasha back onto the legion without giving Mayt time to respond to her last comment. And the 'talking through him' since the last reactions before getting back onto the legion are meant to be made, and Mayt's back was to Liana.
