Bio

New roleplay: https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/189457-the-eye-of-the-needle-where-fantasy-and-sci-fi-collide/ooc

Hey, I'm Catharyn! I joined the Roleplayer Guild on 2nd Feb 2011, then rejoined on the 17th Jan 2014 after Guildfall.

I was active every day until late 2015, accruing (i think) around 7k posts across dozens of roleplays. Then, I started working and had to gradually slow down my RP schedule. In 2017, I officially went on hiatus when other commitments got fully in the way of roleplaying.

This continued until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, when I suddenly realised I had a lot more free time in lockdown! So in mid-2020, I returned to the Guild with a vengeance. I also managed to get The Cradle 1x1 off the ground - a story i've had percolating for almost a decade.

My posting schedule has slowed down a bit now that the world has opened up again. I still love science fiction, fantasy and espionage themes, and generally aim for around 300 words per post.

Sounds good. They'd be few in number but well equipped and well financed. At the original Knights Templar's high there were between 15,000 and 20,000 members; 10% of them being combatants and the rest being involved in politics, finance and logistics etc. That sounds about right, although they hired armies of people to fight with the 1500 or so heavily armored knights. There could be some parallels here between the Original and reborn Knights Templar? I found quite a good concept for what a new and improved Knight might look like, although probably with a gun rather than a sword.

What does everyone think? Yes, no? Too much?
Here. :)
Not a problem, work with me on them. Give me all your ideas here on the thread and we can brainstorm :)
I replied to your PM. I'm not sure what direction i want to take both those factions in, so i'd like your help :) Pretty much all the positions are open, as no one has expressed an interest in them.
Wow. I'm stunned by these amazing Bios, and without most of the information as well! I love all of them, they all have a place in Babylon.

Pseudoboss, humans haven't really made much progress in that area as a whole. The ideology is that they rely rather more in technology than biology. Hope that helps.

Guyvolk i love your organization contributions, the plight of Machine Intelligence being a very tricky situation. I'll try and clarify. Artificial intelligence has always been on Babylon, the First Fleet was controlled jointly by Human Admirals alongside AI Ship controllers (think Cortana). At this stage these Machines were intentionally kept from being self aware and had only simulations of free-will. Sometime in the centuries following Babylon's creation, new machine minds became sentient and began complaining about the monopoly on Intelligence by Humanity. After some struggles between BESC and botnetted droids, Humanity agreed to make all future Machines capable of free will and independent thought, however they reserved the right to control the expensive and complex manufacturing; To stop Machines building Machines ('how perverse') and growing out of control. The Minds agreed to this, however the second class citizen issue has been raised in the last century or so. That's where your created organizations come in.

There are also different kinds of Mind. They are constructed basically as a giant shimmering brain (The Culture series again), the ones designed to command starships are so large they literally have the craft built around them! The same is true with all Machine related outfitting. Droids equipped with basic reasoning skills have a smaller Mind, around which the robotic case is constructed, en masse.

Does all that make sense?

All of you are accepted, i'll get back to work on giving you all more information.

Hi Siphy! Ladies and Gentlemen, would you please welcome one of TSR's oldest veterans to the arena. He's probably as good at answering questions about Babylon and it's organizations than i am. Let me know if you want me to bring you up to speed on all the updated acronyms etc Siph.

What kind of character are you going for? Or is it a surprise? :D
What Xanndros said. Most of the focus will be on the City of Babylon and the desert around it. (The sand pirate domain with shanty towns and huge ruins.) but you can go anywhere you want. I'd advise against starting off miles away to begin with because you might miss out on bits.

We may well head to Edessa or Actim for a spell as a group once i've wrapped a few things up in Babylon but not right away.
