Bio

New roleplay: https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/189457-the-eye-of-the-needle-where-fantasy-and-sci-fi-collide/ooc

Hey, I'm Catharyn! I joined the Roleplayer Guild on 2nd Feb 2011, then rejoined on the 17th Jan 2014 after Guildfall.

I was active every day until late 2015, accruing (i think) around 7k posts across dozens of roleplays. Then, I started working and had to gradually slow down my RP schedule. In 2017, I officially went on hiatus when other commitments got fully in the way of roleplaying.

This continued until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, when I suddenly realised I had a lot more free time in lockdown! So in mid-2020, I returned to the Guild with a vengeance. I also managed to get The Cradle 1x1 off the ground - a story i've had percolating for almost a decade.

My posting schedule has slowed down a bit now that the world has opened up again. I still love science fiction, fantasy and espionage themes, and generally aim for around 300 words per post.

There are also off-planet structures, like AI controlled Magnetic Accelerator Cannons and the manufacturing yards i mentioned earlier. Trying to find a picture for them but here's one for the defenses. Put in place in the run up to the Vrangan Blitz, they prevented the ground defenses from being overwhelmed by sheer number of ships. Many of them were boarded and destroyed (a lá Halo 2) and the ones that were left have fallen into disrepair now.

Here's quite a nice photo from the Vrangan Blitz. It featured some of the most intense fighting on Outremer since the First Contact War. I want to visit it in some way, whether its through data logs or something i don't know. What do you guys think?

Real heroes dress up like Ornstein and take him on hand-to-hand!But, uh, yes, you can do the whole thing from under the bridge. It's just very, very...... slow.

Rather slow than fried to a crisp.
I think you need to go under the bridge for that dragon-y thing, or is that another one?

Yay! You guys are awesome.

We try.
Silver, that's a great bio? Don't feel inadequate here! Taleste is actually a great character to have in the roleplay because it brings a degree of normality. I love the little details here, and i think you'll do well in the club scene. Because you're right, Babylon's nightlife is...explosive. You'll most likely bump into a certain Jack Thegn during your pickpocketing sprees in the huge slo-mo clubs in Bakara District. Accepted!

I see. Could I change the Flaming Dragons from a squardon into the name a gunboat, and make Hendricks the helmsman?

Sounds good! However disregard my Gunboat terminology. That's just a throwback to my nation's unfortunate heritage of 'sending a gunboat round' to our poor african colonies. Spacecraft have loads of different designations, that roughly correlate with seafaring ships. (Carrier, Capital ship, Dreadnought etc.) Imagination is key here. BESC is the largest and best funded fleet operating in the Outremer system, but corporations and individuals are also allowed to own military spacecraft.

I plan on elaborating all of the tech available (with pictures) soon. Real busy with work at the moment. :( Most of the fleet is too large to actually penetrate the atmosphere, which means they've been built and are maintained up in space. However there are classes of ship that are designed for re-entry and low orbit combat. Any ideas for names of Ship class or designation for these?

The variety of ships is staggering, mainly because of BESC's hideously bloated defence R&D budget. Some look like they were built for ceremony but can still hold their own in combat:

Privately owned craft come in unlimited shapes and sizes, some egotistical owners also pride themselves in 'designing' their own craft.
Great bio, Maxxor! One thing i'm a little concerned about however is the bomber side. As a method of warfare, it's a little outdated. Powerful fleets such as the ones maintained by BESC can bombard targets from orbit with a 100% accuracy and 100% kill rate. Old style BOMBS AWAY! tactics aren't really very logical anymore. :\ If a target is needed gone, they'll just send a gunboat round and obliterate it from a couple of hundred miles away.

Since we -still- don't have an IC, I got bored. So I wrote Re's backstory in story form. Now that I wrote that, I'm not actually sure that it's a bad thing to not have the IC. It means I don't get to write with you, but it gives me incentive to write alone. Someone stop me from thinking! Quick! >.>

Nice work!
The IC is coming, I've just got a lot of commitments coming up and don't want to start the IC and then have to leave you guys to your devices.

Actually, this looks quite high casual. Not really a place for people who can make their history, and every post, over two paragraphs.I could try my absolute hardest to write as mush as I possibly could, and I would never get three paragraphs.

That's not a problem! As long as you get the story across, adhering to the rules and responding to everything that applies to you, concise posts are perfectly fine.

Lots of rich people.

Considering Outremer's GDP is in the tens of Quadrillions, it's reasonable to assume some people are doing better than others. Some are dirt poor, whereas some are raising private armies to perform aggressive 'mergers'.

Great! The Character Skeleton is on the first page.
