uh, actually it's a LESS expensive 3DS that has twice the battery life.
Any ability is activated like that, because there's nothing like skill bars and such. Magic is unique in that it's the only kind of skill that can be used with the Interprate System, whereas Cynthia has to learn her Bushido skills. Didn't mean to confuse you on that.
Cynthia finished cooking the fish and wound up with 8 halves, and only just realizing that Marin had left, which made six people in the room. "Alright, I guess I miscounted, everyone grab a plate." She said cheerfully, wandering over to Mantam with two plates in her hands.
"Here, try it," She said, putting one of the plates next to her. "And sorry about the knife, I'll pay for a new one." She sat down nearby and took a bite of her food, chewing carefully. "Mph," she said, swallowing, "I could have done worse with random spices from my bag." She grinned at Mantam, pointing with her fork. "You know, you don't really have to use a Katana to cook from now on. I never told you I was going to use one of my abilities to help me cut it."

I dunno, I was under the impression that any sort of magic was governed by FOC, which Cynthia only has a 1 in, so she couldn't really use a spell to beat Mantam, but it's nothing I'm making a fuss over <.<
right, except Cynthia wasn't using magic.
Bushido skills are governed by AGI, which Cynthia has 9 in (She has 0 Foc). Add that to her level 5 Katana, and put it against your level 2 knife with an enchantment that your character takes a penalty to (Lacking the correct magic skill as you said in the IC post). By the way, I'd like it if you could specify what kinds of magic she knows.
I'm preety sure "never challenge a swordsmaster to a duel" is right up there with "never bet against a magic user"
Btw that skill Cynthia used is a type of Blademaster ability called "Bushido abilities", which use the AGI state instead of the STR stat. I'll make a list of the ones she knows when I get home, but that one is called "Skylark's Song", and it's a single strike attack adding your AGI stat as a combat bonus.

Cynthia grinned and reached over her shoulder again, not bothering to say the words in her head.

As she said the phrase a third time, her katana took on a green film, and suddenly it had gone from it's sheath to an inch off the ground, without seeming to have crossed the space between. A second later, a gust of wind blew past, and the knife, along with it's fortification spell, broke off halfway up the blade.
"Don't feel bad," Cynthia said, resheathing her sword with little flourish, "you challenged a Blade Master to a sword duel, this was the only possible outcome." She turned back to the pan and tilted the finished food onto the plate. "Especially a Bushido user like me." She added, looking at the fish they had.
"It looks like one of us isn't getting any," she said sadly, "I suppose I could go without this time."
