Paige Davis

Grand Ridge Academy

Five-thirty in the morning, and Paige was up. Self-discipline was one thing she'd always been able to manage. Swinging herself round, she stood up, leaning on the bed as she walked to the end of it, and picked up the crutch leaning there. She got dressed in the clothes she wore specifically for what she was about to do, what she did every morning, some of the only ones she owned that weren't white. There was a reason for that.

Paige walked down the hallway, her leg, prosthetic, and crutch making a regular clack-thump, thump beat on the floor. She got to the stairs, and took a long a look at them.

"Some day," she whispered, then pressed the button for the elevator.

Ten minutes later, she had finished her walk and arrived at her destination. It was one of the few green spaces in the area that hadn't been used for farmland; it was too weed-ridden and too small to be worth the effort. Best of all, not many people knew about it, and less visited it in the first hours of daylight. In other words, it was perfect for Paige's intentions.

Paige stumbled slightly on the tall grass, the uneven ground making her walking even more awkward than usual. Then, standing in place, she lifted her crutch and threw it on the grass, about ten meters away. She unsteadily started walking towards it. She fell after three steps. This was why she wasn't wearing white.

Paige spent nearly fourty-five minutes on this, walking back and forth as well as she could on the grass. She didn't get any better, but neither did she give up. After this time, she returned to her dorm, showered, and changed into an outfit more typical for her. She passed some time with the first half of an Evanescence album, then had her breakfast. She had almost finished eating when the alarm went off, so she stuffed the last piece of toast into her mouth as she got up to leave.

Once again, she walked down the hallway, this time with significantly more company. It was when she got to the end that she realised she had a problem. They weren't supposed to take the elevator when there was a fire, even if in most cases there was no danger, but even with her crutch, Paige wouldn't be able to descend those stairs alone without breaking her neck. She turned to the girl behind her, no one she knew. Apparently that 'some day' would be sooner than she had previously realised.

"I'm so, so sorry," she said, "but please can you help me? I can't get down here on my own."

A few unpleasant minutes later, she was out, thanking the girl for her help and joining the rest outside. Despite leaving almost immediately, Paige was one of the last out - yet another reason for her to learn to walk properly. Regardless, Paige entered the group of people, stopping next to a tall, blonde girl with a European accent, who soon followed after her friend. She had heard part of their conversation, entirely unintentionally, but that had interested her enough for her to listen to the remainder of it. Certainly, recent events had been stranger than usual in this town, but she'd only heard stories. Perhaps she was lucky not to experience any of that firsthand, but she couldn't help wishing that she'd seen it, if only to make better sense of it all.
I was going to wait for the chapter to finish, but I'll post soon (if not tonight, then today or tomorrow), in that case.
@Spoopy Scary Just get Rita in on that conversation and we're good to go. Sounds like fun to me. Shall we set up relations in PM, or let them meet in the rp itself?
@Spoopy Scary I hadn't though of that, but have now decided yes, and classical history.

@Surtr Inc Character application is done.

Well this looks cool. I liked Stranger Things and loved Until Dawn, plus I've heard good things about Life Is Strange. No prominses yet, but I might be in.
Thalia smiled as she sauntered around to Danny, and delivered her riposte. "Alone, Danny? Oh, I can see how the Xill must be quivering in their creeepy insectoid boots at that thought. Imagine! The great Ochidan, hardy enough to survive not one, not two, but three whole toothpick stabs, revered throughout the land for his incredible physical power and toughness! Those Xill wouldn't stand a chance.

"Anyway," she continued, changing the subject, "the tall guy still inside says he's going off on his own, to the docks. Agatha says she's got friends that'll help him out, but otherwise, I think we're headed for the Dwarf quarter. I think the quicker route is best, that'll be the only way we can get both problems solved in time. Shall I take point?"
Thalia frowned at Luddita's sudden change of topic. Maybe she had a point, but was now the time? In any case, she said nothing on that subject.

She wasn't utterly silent, however, saying "Well? Shall we get going, then? We have a majority, and people are dying while we sit here." With that, she got up and left the building, following Danny outside. Once there, she spoke to him as well. "Looks like we're headed to the dwarf quarter. Not that I'd leave us now, but I still think it's the wrong choice. Say... ten gold that I'll kill more Xill than you?"

Despite her apparently carefree attitude, Thalia was worried for her half-siblings, Isla and Erilin. She'd told them to evacuate as soon as possible, but she also knew that either would leap to the aid of anyone who needed it at a moment's notice, and she was afraid that it would get them killed. Still, both could handle themselves in a fight, particularly Erilin, so her doubts were probably groundless. Not that this made it any easier.
