How this works is it is an improve food action but also increases the self sufficiency of the wardens when in the wild. I.e. they don't suffer such food shortages.
Nexonia saw the first rays of dawn shining over the land. With careful fingers she plucked the squirrel and the arrow with which she shot it out of the wood. She then sprung off the tree limb on which she was standing onto one lower down. 10 minutes later the squirrel was toasting on a miniature spit on the forest floor. 10 minutes after that she was chewing on roast squirrel. Her thoughts changed to constructive ones as she headed back to camp.
Time to wake the recruits. She thought.
Coming back to the slowly glowing campfire and the tents she woke each tent by banging on it. Time to rouse. Get up. She blew on her whistle.
She saw the recruits. Some 30 in all. Bleary eyed and yawning. She saw Meekus amongst them and handed him the lower torso of the squirrel for breakfast. Meekus was the son of much vaunted general Meekus of the troll war. Unlike most of the rest he was a Male and had just come out of his fever 5 months ago. Unlike his brother before him, he had survived. This was put down to the fact that hed been born with a cowl, something very auspicious to the midwives and druids. He still carried around with him a wooden box from his fever times. What it did no one knew, but they expected great things from this Meekus the second. And that was why he was here training for the Wardens, protectors of the Wanderer nation, under personal oversight of Pathfinder Nexonia, chief of the tribe.
I'd just like to say my people fear war and are mostly neutral, however they have a great capacity for tracking, scouting and skirmishes, owing to their cat like senses. It just isn't used aggressively. I assume this is ok given the state of the Male population.
Some males do recover from the fever with all their senses. But it is a hard battle.
They arnt nomadic. They just started off that way, as all civilisations were supposed to at some stage according to archaeology. They stopped once they found the permacrops.
As for discarding tech I can forget this idea. It just seemed cool like a felix bag of tricks. Instead I suppose they have some high artistry tech for some applications, a bit like traditional dwarf tech but less fire involved and more vines as leaves.
The crippling difficulty of their civilisation is that their Male population is hamstrung by "the fever", they either get over it or die or reduce down to a torpid mental state. The men are the artisans and the women are the hunters and farmers and warriors, but they are strongly devided into these casts. They as a civilisation fear the loss of the environment and its many ancestor spirits. They also fear war. They are perhaps not quite as middle of the road as humans, perhaps just to the side. I'll keep working on their fears.
Nation/Clan/Kingdom/Tribe Name: The Wanderers Represented Color: Sky blue Race: Humanoid cat-people Features: The wanderer nation are a female dominant society. The males of the tribe are overtaken by "the feaver" during puberty and some do not survive. During the fever they become obsessed with a mono mania over some specific perceived fault to be corrected. This could be a technological missing link or just as likely a work of philosophy, poetry or law (the three often becoming one and the same due to a verbal history tradition.) During this time a Male might make some huge great advancement or die trying, as the fever consumes all their energy and attention. STRENGTHS: Huge technological leaps, but localised to towns, one town for example might have a water wheel but another will have a windmill and never the twin will meet (in games terms this might mean they can try anything once including vastly perfected tools. Though once used it is erased.) The females of the tribe are hardy and practical. Though they try to preserve these relics of the fever, they often cannot grasp their intricacies or simply do not care. The females occupy a warrior-hunter cast with some of the best trackers and cartographers seen throughout the races. Indeed the females, in order to become leaders must first have journeyed out of civilisation to live amongst the wilds for many years, intermingling with other cultures before they can attain the title of pathfinder. This process is mostly organic. As far as magick goes the dominant understanding is that of oral history, totemic symbols and druidry. The druids make use of henges, herbs and worshiping nature through carved totems where stories are related by the town cryer. Breed: Explorer breed Capital: Nexo Founded by the great sailing cat Nexonia, the huge catamaran is now turned upside down and its ships hull serves as the walls to a great fort. Ruler: Pathfinder Nexonia
Type of Government: Tribal druidic hierarchy where the higher up they are the more connected to God they are. In this instance God is the nature and environment spirits.
Geographical Location: Please pick somewhere cold for them. They are naturally resistant to cold due to the large amount of antifreeze in their diet. They are also the only ones who can grow perma-crops in the permafrost.
History: Largly a wandering nomadic society they are renown for being very inward looking. Once the permacrops were discovered they set down where no other race would, the frigid tundra, which to them is the same as summer or autumn and they dress accordingly. Their hair is a dappled spot of leopard or snow leopard platinum blonde when the winter season causes this change of coat! Their faces resemble humans except they have black tear ducts like the leopard. They are also known for building huge totums for living in, these airscrapers are built from great trees. But for now the first settlement is made from upturned boathulls which coincidentally are very aerodynamic for the whipperwinds and resist the buildup of heavy snow and ice. The history of this tribe is spotted, I joke, they mostly are peacefull and barely interact with any that do not venture to the tundra. There was once a great war with the trolls who had begun to venture to the cold, pushed by some unknown force, in that time the pathfinder gathered the best hunters and formed the wardens. Led by the great general Meekus, a man who had recovered from his fever with great military acumen, they made use of great scouting and skirmishes to slay many trolls and turn them away.

Short Biography: From within the rocking carriage, the sound of horses trotting could be heard. Hue Greygranite sat thinking to himself. Seemingly with a natural stillness and repose thoughts were turning over in his mind. After a little while, he opened the carriage door and called out. "If Sir Barnabus could join me please.". The carriage door swung open and a fellow in halfplate entered into the carraige, rocking it slightly. Here was a strapping fellow of nearly 50 with shock of red hair and a scar on his chin. He sat there quietly waiting for the Lord to speak, and when he said nothing he ventured his own opinion. "Thinking about the upcoming games?", "Yes Barney, as per our last conversation". "I've said it before, even if it should cost me another shoulder i'll joust and fight the beastfights." "Yees-, but winning in your condition might prove troublesome, and this is a time whence we cannot afford to lose", there was silence "My Lord if this is about sacrifice i'll do it in the name of peace..." There was a long silence and Barnabus could tell that the Lord was mulling things over at the rate of a Rabidash... "and if not then one of my Squires can take the role", "Really?" Lord Greygranite seemed to rise out of his meditation. Then she shrank back and whispered half to himself, "Whos' good enough? Thats the thing." His thumb and forefinger pinching his lower lip into a U. "That young Saltswind is a promising one" ventured Barnabus. "Really??? Remind me again of who he is?" Hes a Squire, coming of age to become a Knight, comes from a family that traded salt on the high seas. Hes got the bearing of a Squire, broad-shouldered, but the head of a trader. "Do you think he's ready?", "Were any of us back then?", "It'll be his first time on the Beastfights but the joust hes done well enough in before, and if he takes to it like the scrumball game then i see no problems." "Alright, bring him in", Said the lord, having finished pinching his lip. Barnabus lent out the door and called "Glen Saltswind, step forth". Within a moment or two a young strapping lad with a warpick at his belt entered into the carriage. Looking at his company he ventured forth "My Lords". "Well, if it isnt the young Saltswind" stated the Lord Greygranite loudly with a painful grin. "You come from stock who know the high seas dont you?", "Thats right sir, both mah and pah traded on the westward seas". "Excellent, both Barnabus and I have been having a chat and we've decided that it is you who should be undertaking the Tournament". "Glen blinked and looked backward and forwards at them", "Thank you sir, but isnt Sir Barnabus undertaking the Tournaments this year? We've all been waiting to watch him win." Said the young Glen without so much as a hesitation. "Thats excellent spirit you've got there melad but tell me, have you ever thought of competing yourself?", "Of course melord, every squire thinks of it sooner or later", He said with enthusiasm. "Then i can think of no better time for you to show what youve got", "Really melord? This is such an honour and i cant believe you'd trust me", "There, there," said Barnabus rubbing his shoulder, "thats quite enough now", "Go forth and do an armour check on the other Squires". "Y-yess melord, r-right away, th-thank you.", With a shudder the young Saltswind exited the carriage and both the lords waited in silence. Hushed voices were heard outside. Followed by a discernable whooping and hollering. But within the carriage there were nothing but silence, granite silence.
