Yeah, considering the state of things I'm willing to push the "official" start date back a day or two. If I have time after class today I will type up a quick, setting the tone style intro post and people can go from there. Generally I'm fine with these things going pretty freely and organically, but if it feels like things have gotten stuck in a rut I may try to throw some events into the world to keep stuff going. It may be stuff like natural disasters or political unrest (with the player's permission of course, don't plan on screwing people over too hard here) with the central idea just to keep things flowing.
That tends to be my impression as well, I would like to avoid fixed wing aircraft for as long as possible.
@Brink_ New stuff looks good. Port it over to the character tab at you leisure.
Generally speaking things on the caliber of your Gatling, Gardner, or Nordenfelt are a decade old at least and maxims aren't much younger really. Mortars are another story, but if they've been keeping pace with northern modernization then they likely won't have too much trouble actually manufacturing ammunition.
From my understanding of it they're a relatively small nation that's been paying attention to the way things have been going in the north and have been taking notes (A bit like Meiji era Japan I would imagine). The ideas haven't really spread too far from them considering that the majority of the southern peoples are nomadic tribes or are incredibly insular and conservative.
@Keyguyperson Currently there isn't a specific Christianity analogue. I think the only religion that has been fluffed out so far is the Church of Koval which you will find a tiny bit of info on in my nation sheet in the OP. I hadn't intended it to be the Christianity of the setting, but it could be a fringe denomination of some larger faith.
Rex's method would certainly lower the amount of salt that would be spread, but the standard method allows for more...Cinematic flair I guess? Potential horrible hybrid could be me adjudicating then sending that through PMs so that people can make posts based on the results.
@Peace Keeper South Adara has largely been avoided by the Industrial Revolution and has generally been pretty insular as a whole. The average technology level is all over the place, but generally they do not have steam engines, jacketed rounds or repeating firearms, trains, or any of the other things that most nations in the north take for Granted.
Nexerus plays them. On the topic of Airships and Anti-air fire, my take on it is pretty much that by and large they are armored like the naval warships they emulate (though not to the same degree of course. an Elan Battleship, even a very large one, likely isn't quite above that of an armored cruiser on the sea in terms of armor) and so that means that Flak artillery is generally out of the question. What that would mean is that AA guns need to be accurate enough to actually hit them dead-on and powerful enough to punch through the ship's armor. Then also there comes the issue of a proper high angle carriage for the guns that is easy to deploy in the field. A moving target is hard enough to hit with artillery of the time, a moving target in the air raises its own host of concerns. Tl;DR: Airships can be countered by dedicated AA batteries, but that doesn't mean said batteries are an automatic death sentence.
Works for me. Or it could be that they just didn't realize how much Elan there was (Considering the Dratha may as well have been swimming in it for centuries)
