How did the bioluminescent plants work?

It seems like its a symbiotic relationship, the bacteria feeds off of the plant and at the same time produces light and the plant gains some sort of benefit.

Like glowing blue orbs for some, and for others, like purple bananas, those were the most common at least.

I camped out for a few days and just took a break from life, since I was under the tree canopy it was really dark as well which was a plus.

There was one a while back, that was super lush and was the brightest lushest greenest forest you've ever seen with the most beautiful, crystal clear sky blue ocean that was surrounded by the trees, it was amazing.

I really like looking at ones that don't have sentient life but a lot of flora, like jungle planets, every now and again they're a beautiful distraction.
