History:(Obvious) In the aftermath of the third world war, the global economy was shattered. Many nations had simply ceased to exist or been absorbed into other nations, often through force.
It was decided that the age of the nation state was over. Small nations simply weren't viable in this hostile world, they risked invasion and destruction.
As a result, it was proposed to the Commonwealth that the Commonwealth become a political, economic and military union. This led to the largest referendum in known political history, with over 2 billion votes cast.
There were many key instances that helped the Yes vote. The fourth world war started just a few weeks before the vote, and land was seen changing hands repeatedly. In addition, the yes campaign was headed by what was a very cunning man and in televised debates "Smashed" the opposition with his debating tactic of tearing apart the opposing argument and essentially pouring salt into the wounds. He was extremely successful in the poorer African countries and very successful in India, claiming a united Commonwealth would put an end to poverty and the rampant crime.
The No campaign, on the other hand, was made of many different groups, some extremist nationalists, and bickered between each other a lot, giving an image of chaos.
After the yes victory in one of the most important referendums in living memory, the Commonwealth of Nations was united
In the later part of WW4, the Commonwealth entered. Its opposition now weakened, the Commonwealth launched an invasion if China to "Free Hong Kong of CCP oppression" The forces from India marched in, and the weakened China was forced back. They signed the 2064 Peace treaty with The Commonwealth, seceding Hong Kong. Commonwealth forces were welcomed into Hong Kong as liberators, the people of HK had felt the bullets of oppression ever since they lost their SAR status. They had been given little political voice since, and joined the Commonwealth.
The success of the Commonwealth has led to some countries who were not a part before its unification to join and be integrated, such as Iceland. This has happened extensively in Africa, where many have seen the raising standards on the other side of the border and tried to negotiate their way in
