Economy: Resources from the space colonies coupled with the resources of their vast lands on Earth feed into a massive industry, making them an economic powerhouse.
History:(Obvious) In the aftermath of the third world war, the global economy was shattered. Many nations had simply ceased to exist or been absorbed into other nations, often through force.
It was decided that the age of the nation state was over. Small nations simply weren't viable in this hostile world, they risked invasion and destruction.
As a result, it was proposed to the Commonwealth that the Commonwealth become a political, economic and military union. This led to the largest referendum in known political history, with over 2 billion votes cast.
There were many key instances that helped the Yes vote. The fourth world war started just a few weeks before the vote, and land was seen changing hands repeatedly. In addition, the yes campaign was headed by what was a very cunning man and in televised debates "Smashed" the opposition with his debating tactic of tearing apart the opposing argument and essentially pouring salt into the wounds. He was extremely successful in the poorer African countries and very successful in India, claiming a united Commonwealth would put an end to poverty and the rampant crime.
The No campaign, on the other hand, was made of many different groups, some extremist nationalists, and bickered between each other a lot, giving an image of chaos.
After the yes victory in one of the most important referendums in living memory, the Commonwealth of Nations was united
In the later part of WW4, the Commonwealth entered. Its opposition now weakened, the Commonwealth launched an invasion if China to "Free Hong Kong of CCP oppression" The forces from India marched in, and the weakened China was forced back. They signed the 2064 Peace treaty with The Commonwealth, seceding Hong Kong. Commonwealth forces were welcomed into Hong Kong as liberators, the people of HK had felt the bullets of oppression ever since they lost their SAR status. They had been given little political voice since, and joined the Commonwealth.

The success of the Commonwealth has led to some countries who were not a part before its unification to join and be integrated, such as Iceland. This has happened extensively in Africa, where many have seen the raising standards on the other side of the border and tried to negotiate their way in
Nah, a united Commonwealth of Nations this time :p

Sorta of, you should have let me.I will clean it up in a bit, I have a much better way to organize everything. Also Darkwolf Antarctica isn't that valuable, just let Key have it.

Well, it's also valuable for face, not good to bend knee to people trying to scrap a living off ice. But I digress, as long as there are no IRA running around Ireland, all is good lol

No, it's against international law to claim any part of Antarctica as territory of a nation. There are research outposts, but they are not considered territory of the nation that operates them.Of course, instead of just rebelling against a nation that claimed Antarctica, now the Antarctic Union is breaking international law that has held for over a hundred years (I think). Meh, it's 2070, the Antarctic Treaty might have just been forgotten. Along with basically everything else we have, including the Geneva Conventions.

Actually there were sovereign claims before and still are. The UK subscribed the Antarctic territory as one of its 14 oversea territories... Giving it the same status as area's like Gibraltar and the Falklands... Yet also signed the Antarctic treaty. In addition. I believe France integrated theirs into the same office used to administrate French islands, but also signed the treaty.

In other words, their claims are pretty much indistinguishable from their claims on various islands... But they also signed a treaty stating they are not sovereign lands.

If I remember correctly, either the Brits of Argies named their claim... Which overlaps with the other and resulted in tensions in addition to the stink about the Falklands being risen by Argentina again at the start of the 2010's, and it turned into a little bit of a territorial argument between UK and Argentina, as another side show to the Falklands... Cant really have a territory dispute if you don't own the land (Basically the Argies started whining about how it was unfair they lost in the 80's, and eventually shut back up again after the Falklands held a referendum where only 2 were against being Brits rofl)

The entire thing is a big political mess, and technically the UN collapsed and its treaties are void anyway, so its not unreasonable to think some might want their claims formalised (A nice huge chunk on the map fir for... And an isolated place to hide away those top secret projects)
Uhm... About the Antarctica reserved thing... Most of antartica is actually claimed by nations irl, are all those claims null?
To Chaos

"Who are you searching for?"

Dropship interior

As the drop ship landed in the carrier, which proceeded to jump with the small force back to Collective space, Spectrre decided to probe her further
The first officer gave a grin, and his opaque visor changed to be transparent
" Is that a hint of psychic ability this one detects?" he commented "Interesting... A vivisection is likely in order... Unless you wish go explain that for us?" The second officer piqued up
"Don't worry, I shall not allow him to cause excessive damage to your physical form if you cooperate. About the Sol landing zone, is the gate two way..." He asked... It might be time to send the Imperials a little present... "Oh, and as for the universe damage... We did that" There was a chuckle from the Saeva Simius holding her. "This unit is designated CEC-SPECTRE-OfC.00281, subject state designation for intelligence records."
"State point of origin"
"State estimated size of Imperial forces"
"State estimated population of Imperial territory"
"State estimated industrial output"
"State estimated technological tier level"
"State estimated number of dominated Collective races, with estimates for each race."
"Do not force us to tear information from your brainwaves"
"Such a brutal mental attack is usually traumatising for the recipient"
"We prefer the subjects mental state intact"

Embassy

The Collective has dispatched a transport to the appropriate Equestrian world.
The collective World has offered them a small location on the outskirts of the city for construction... And has noted that the occasional loud crashing noise is nothing to be concerned with and is in fact important to the city
Just to point this out so now one goes a nabbing... Hong Kong is UE land, as it was a British territory
I said the Collective is the most advanced local (as in this universe) nation, and that Chaos is the most powerful known group...
