So I'm pursuing a PhD in Philosophy (Ethics, specifically) and meanwhile I can't for the life of me make any quick choice when it comes to coffee. Am I fighting an uphill battle here?

Interested! Are OC's allowed for this or are they strictly canon characters? Or a hybrid of both?
@DisturbedSpec No probs, although I like the detailed CS. Is she based off of a canon character? Though, if you think this RP isn't for you, I hope you find something you're looking for :)

[@all] Also, this is supposed to be a sandboxish thing and the NPCs may become less active as we go along, but do let me know if you peeps require more to work with, and your characters are still free to interact with the NPCs at any time.

Unfortunately, nope. I am glad you appreciate the detail, however. Good luck in your future endeavors!

No worries! Welcome to RPG. As for your character, did you mention her being an OC?

Aye. I've noticed that OC's seem to be disallowed on some chats. If this is the case, I do apologize. Having only signed up two days ago I'm still attempting to navigate around the area.
Hello all! Let me know if this Hero is accepted. I know I posted this in the character tab earlier and, upon receiving feedback from another forum user, corrected my mistake. Thanks for understanding!

Name: Samus-007

Universe: Halo (OC)

Age: 20 (Biologically), 32 (Chronologically)

-[Born 2511]

-Age at conscription: Seven [2517]

-[Active 2552-present]

Sex: Female

Affiliation: United Nations Space Command (Formerly), Office of Naval Intelligence (Current)

Personality: Samus would be described as cold, calculative, mechanical and nearly emotionless toward any military or authority figure from the resentment and resistance she actively displayed while under conscription by the UNSC. Only those who manage to befriend the silent, stoical Spartan will see a different side altogether. In the presence of Civilians, allies or children, the Spartan is known to behave much more remarkably social in an effort to show that she is still Human- whether this is an attempt to cope with the trauma of her abduction is yet to be deciphered. Those that threaten human lives, including the lives of her allies, will almost always be met with immediate hostility.

Powers: Samus possesses multiple augmentations standard-issue to all Spartan II personnel. These include:

Occipital Capillary Reversal: Surgery is performed on the occipital lobe of the left cerebral hemisphere of the brain; the occipital lobe is the visual processing center of the brain, containing most of the anatomical region of the visual cortex. The surgeon performs a procedure on the capillaries, the smallest of the body's blood vessels, to reverse the direction of blood flow in each capillary to boost the blood flow beneath the rods and cones of the subject's retina. The rods and cones of the eye are light-sensitive receptors located in the back of the eye. Together they are able to detect movement, light and color, and relay that information back to the brain. This procedure produces a marked visual perception increase.

Carbide Ceramic Ossification: The candidate's bones are exposed via surgery or procedurally sequential surgeries. An advanced carbide ceramic material is grafted onto the skeletal structure to begin assimilation into the upper layers of the each individual bone. This results in the bones being virtually unbreakable. The coverage of this procedure does not exceed 3% total bone mass due to significant white blood cell necrosis: effectively, the carbide ceramic can only comprise a thin outer "shell" bonded to each bone without interfering with bone functionality as organs.

Catalytic Thyroid Implant: A platinum pellet is implanted in the left thyroid gland; this pellet contains a human growth hormone that is released into the body to boost growth of skeletal and muscle tissues. As the hormone is released into the body the pellet dissolves and is absorbed. The hormone targets and stimulates the growth of fast and slow twitch muscle fibers, effectively producing significant gains in muscle mass. The hormone also targets osteoblasts to help boost bone tissue formation and effectively strengthen the bone structure.

Muscular Enhancement Injections: In addition to the growth hormone catalyst, a protein complex is injected intramuscularly that targets the muscles' intracellular molecular machinery to help increase muscle strength and endurance. These injections target the muscles' molecules increasing the density of the connective tissues and fibers, the more visible result being the muscles quivering and contorting over one another, making connecting tendons stronger and decreasing lactase recovery time.

Superconducting Fibrification of Neural Dendrites: Alteration of bioeletrical nerve transduction to shielded electronic transduction. 300% increase in subject reflexes. Anecdotal evidence of marked increase in intelligence, memory, and creativity.

Gear:

Generation-One [GEN1] Mark VI Powered Assault Armor /Shadow/ Variant: This armor was a substantial upgrade over the Mark V; which provided hundreds of technological updates to the suit. The Titanium Alloy Outer Shell bears extreme resilience to most conventional small arms, the plating capable of withstanding about a magazine of concentrated 5.56x45mm fire per plate, 12 7.62x51mm shots per plate or 3 12.7x99mm AP rounds per plate. The refractive coating heat allows the chassis to withstand background heat and twenty direct strikes from Covenant plasma. Mark V shielding is capable of withstanding up to 1.45 gigawatts of energy before breaking; equivalent to one direct hits (torso or below) from a 14.5 APFSDS round or shell. They'll protect against directed energy, projectiles and melee strikes. Upon draining, a 5.45-second delay kicks into effect before the shields begin a 0.85-second recharge to one hundred percent. Frictionless surfaces make for very difficult grapples if one were to attempt to grab them. Lastly, by default, the powered assault armor doubles the user's strength (which is already three times their body weight by default) and multiplies their reaction time by a further factor of five. Perhaps the biggest feature of all was the automatic biofoam injector ports.

MA5B Assault Rifle: An air-cooled, suppressed, magazine-fed, gas-operated, selective-fire rifle with a bullpup reloading system. It sports a 3x magnified combat optic and fires a 15-round mag of 7.62x51mm NATO ammo.

M6G SOCOM Personal Defense Weapon System: A Semi-automatic, recoil operated, mag-fed large caliber pistol. Packing a total of eight rounds per mag, it fires a devastating 12.7x40mm M225 SAP-HE (Semi-Armor-Piercing, High Explosive) round.

'Ahab': This 'Smart' AI is Samus's Tactical Battlefield Assistant; a middle-aged war scarred male dressed in what appears to be a form-fitting muscular armored bodysuit with an eyepatch over his right eye. In addition to several scars lining the majority of his face, a prominent metallic horn sticks out of the right side of his forehead. He speaks with a gruff, soft-spoken yet serious tone of voice.

Power rating: 70

Background: Born on Eridanus II in the city of Luxor, Samus was the only child of parents Marcus and Elizabeth Hayes. Marcus, a retired Marine Lieutenant of the UNSC, insisted that his daughter was raised orderly and with discipline; but also to be taught the values of family, love and appreciation. Elizabeth, a retired early childhood education teacher, backed this to a degree; suggesting that their daughter be homeschooled for a more interpersonal and structured educational regimen. Five years later with both parents continually employed in full-time jobs, they sought another solution and ultimately hired a young, experienced and abnormally qualified babysitter to look after the young girl, who in reality was an undercover Naval Intelligence agent. For the next two years, Samus was covertly evaluated by the undercover agent alongside receiving education from her parents, as well as the agent herself. The relationship between Samus and her caretaker was rocky throughout the first year with suspicion and mistrust, however by the second, the toddler had begun to regard her caretaker as a friend. That trust was subsequently betrayed on the morning of her seventh birthday, where Naval Intelligence officers raided the house and kidnapped the young girl by force; knowing full well she wouldn’t come along willingly. Having been sedated and replaced with a flash-clone, the conscription operation had been a success. The agent stayed at the house until the clone’s death, and still acted as an outlet of support for the grieving family years later.

Like the other Spartan-II candidates, Samus was captured from her home by force and replaced by a flash-cloned version. However, throughout the young girl’s conscription, the proved to be more trouble than she was worth. Despite her age, Samus was quick to piece together why she had been taken from her family; proceeding to channel her strong emotional response into a dedication go along with the program she was forced into, all the while actively resisting military conformity, indoctrination and preferring to operate on her own method. Despite the young teenager’s rebellious nature, Samus proved to be exceptionally capable of what she was taught; surpassing the educational expectations as well as displaying elite field skills. The UNSC were quick to pick up on this, and despite the numerous disciplinary infractions she received, they devised one last plan and decided . Midway through her education at the age of ten, the young Spartan candidate was pulled from her class and trained independently at the hands of numerous Naval Intelligence instructors for the remaining four years leading up to the augmentation procedures.

When the time came, the Spartan underwent surgery and successfully received all five sets of augmentations. However, she was covertly placed into a medical coma and declared deceased; being passed into the hands of ONI to later be “resuscitated” one month later and issued MJOLNIR Mk. IV Powered Assault Armor, painted a black finished with a red visor. For the next twenty-eight years throughout her service to Naval Intelligence, the mostly controlled freelance Spartan’s whereabouts were highly and heavily classified so that only a few key members of Naval Intelligence truly knew her location at all times. On October 2nd, 2552, Samus was adorned in MJOLNIR Mk. VI Powered Assault Armor, and the cycle continued.

Or so she thought.

What was deemed to be a routine Slipspace jump to Mars ended in failure, as the ONI Prowler she was traveling on stopped transmitting its signal on the morning of November 11th, 2552. All hands were lost, and Samus was declared Missing in Action.

*THINGS TO NOTE!*

-Alma can dick with people. Hallucinations, paranormal phantoms capable of physical attack, flinging objects/people across the room, electrical interference and structural alterations to the environment to individually separate faction members can all be done at a moment's notice. Killing is generally not permitted unless requested by the player.

-Paxton is generally not malicious but can serve to intimidate or disrupt operations of those in the area, most notably by issuing orders to his battalion of Replicas scattered within the many locations of Fairport.

-Please keep custom OC's realistic to the setting. Supernatural abilities are allowed, just don't be OP with them.

-In F.E.A.R 's setting, not much is known of other supernatural abilities besides psychokinesis, mind control, teleportation and, tissue liquification. As it stands to more or less prevent this from becoming an X-Men RP, I STRONGLY urge that if you're going to make a character with supernatural abilities, please be limited in use, don't have an OP power, and be reasonable. As for event characters, tag me as well as the others you're intending to use your powers on. Only Paxon, Alma, Nightcrawler Elites and F.E.A.R members can have abilities.

-Event characters aside from Alma are given their very own compliment of military forces. They are the generals leading their men into battle.

-Alma and Fettel are mother and son. Paxton's ultimate end goal is reunification with his separated mother and using whatever means to achieve it.

-People who leave will have their characters locked in stasis (meaning that Alma or Fettel's player can possess them as that character in order to kill them off.

-Characters that end up dying can be replaced as a reinforcement until one faction remains victorious. (WIP, gonna need help on this guys)

-Just so I can have a leg in the storyline as well, [the majority of actions I would like to see shape out under your guy's awesome creativity], I will be commanding Echo Company located at Command Post Theta. The rest of the events with the exception of location captures, destruction/area sabotage and influence of player-character actions will be handled by you lovelies! Think of this as like a Rimworld-like experience, except I'm not a total douche like Randy Random. Be sure to tag me when you perform one of these vital actions!

We good? Aight. Storytime!

This universe will take place in the Resurgence timeline, circa 2025-2026. Unstated, this universe is a hybrid of the Monolith/Vivendi timelines, however several notable changes are made:

[2025]

-Armacham Headquarters is evacuated and the Origin facility obliterated following the reactor detonation; Alma Wade was released by Harlan, and subsequently survived within the facility's collapse. The Pointman's fate remains unknown, with Fettel presumed killed moments prior to the facility's destruction. Auburn District and the rest of Fairport begin to focus on rebuilding the damages.

-Beckett's psionic signal unintentionally activates several hidden Replica cloning facilities around Fairport. Proceeding to receive information by Replica Commanders who have been upgraded by the Variant VII through unknown and possibly premeditated methods, Beckett takes advantage of this and proceeds to order renovation of the operational ATC facilities under a new military and scientific contracting domain, Hyperion Defense Force.

-Beckett, still working with Dark Signal, integrates the unit into Hyperion and proceeds to staff the facilities around Fairport to oversee Replica cloning processes, Government projects, and various aerospace, military, government and scientific contracts alongside their own operations and facility expansion across the United States. F.E.A.R is registered as a black-ops unit within HDF.

-ATC’s facility director has been replaced by retired Marine Officer Richard Vanek following Genevieve Aristide’s arrest and execution on numerous counts of crimes against Humanity. Vanek has sworn an oath to bury the hatchet with ATC’s past history; seeking to reinstate the company as the world’s global science corporation and scrutinizing HDF operations. Naturally, a rivalry has ensued between the two corporations because of this.

[2026]

-The U.S is in a state of technological superiority, with much of the world beginning to show increasing interest and investment into Hyperion’s military and scientific technologies. The government has begun to fight off tariffs and trade embargos as a result of refusal to accept bioweapon and paranormal research contracts; many shareholders investing into the now reactivated ATC instead. Countries such as the Russian Federation, China and even the UN are beginning to drop HDF in favor of supporting ATC.

-One of ATC’s previous financial backers and political supporters, The Senator, has resurfaced following a year of absence. Attempts to locate him have failed, and he is believed to be in-command of the mysterious Nightcrawler PMC. It is unknown what his current political and military goals are at this time.

-[Unknown time.] Citizens of Fairport and the New Auburn District have begun to report headaches, nosebleeds, disorientation and feelings of being watched. Radio signals are occasionally blocked by bursts of static interference, followed by the symptoms observed above. The city and district is now kept monitored by F.E.A.R operators, and guarded by HDF. Evacuation centers are being prepared within Fairport should an evacuation be needed. Within the chaos, factions are scrambling to assert their dominance and control over the city of Fairport.

This is where you come in, and your actions will ultimately influence the outcome of Fairport and the rest of the world.

-Strategic locations-
Wade Elementary School/Paragon Facility: Commissioned and developed by Armacham to train future 'gifted' children into Harbinger candidates (later Abominations), this schoolhouse would serve as an excellent Forward Operations Base to any of the factions that can capture it. Just be aware that you won't be the only creature to roam the halls of the abandoned school.

Armacham HQ: The creme de la creme (?) of what keeps the wheels of corruption turning, the main facility of Armacham Technologies Corporation houses many floors, lots of supplies, and an underground facility. Bringing this building down via capture or destruction, along with Site Bravo, will push the ATC out of control.

Armacham's Secondary HQ (Site Bravo): ATC Forces will start here, with the main and foremost objective being to recapture the primary HQ and eliminate the hostile factions occupying the city

Stillwater Island: Helicopter transport is needed to get to the hidden Replica cloning facility. Those that can get there either have the option of destroying it or creating Variant VII Replica forces for an edge in battle. Either option will hinder or benefit another faction.

Command Post Theta: The only CP left standing, this Post harbors an 'Impaired' NPC Replica faction; registered as being neither under Paxton nor Alma's direct control. Having been activated into a neutral state by the combined psionic emissions of Paxton, Micheal Beckett, and Alma, this Replica faction can be assumed under control of any faction that gets to the Commander, assuming they're not shot dead under the ensuing gunfight. This would be a wise choice, as aerial transport to Stillwater will take some time to acquire.

Auburn District: This destroyed and evacuated district was once home to the lowest class of citizenry before the evacuation, with many living in poverty and unsanitary conditions. This section is quite expansive and is home to the Southside Wastewater Treatment Planet, Auburn Memorial Hospital, and the Old Underground Metro Complex.

Southside Water Treatment Plant: This will be the location is which the F.E.A.R Team is inserted into the city. Destruction/Enemy capture of this location will push F.E.A.R forces and SFOD-D presence out of Fairport.

Auburn Memorial Hospital: This Memorial Hospital can serve as an improvised outpost and an excellent place to regroup and treat the injured. Left shortly following the Origin Facility's destruction, it still contains a huge cache of supplies.

Warehouse: This location will be where Paxton is initially located, with his battalion of Replica Forces having secured and locked down the area. As it stands, this area is a crucial source of weapons, ammo, vehicles and additional supplies not found anywhere else within Fairport.

Old Underground Metro Area: This area still has functioning trains and boasts a massive network of underground tunnels linking to various parts of the city (all locations but Stillwater Island, Wade Elementary and the two Armacham facilities are accessible. Additionally, taking the control room offline will disable all trains in the Metro, making it a hinderance (or a benefit if you're just that malicious) for factions.

You do not use names; codenames must be maintained at all times to ensure nothing gets leaked. You are containing (or) neutralizing Paxton Fettel, eliminating the ATC, and potentially F.E.A.R as you make your way to Stillwater Island to regain production of the Replicas, then with your new armies, assume control of the Armacham HQ and drive ATC out of Farpoint, by any means. Your secondary objective is to extract DNA samples of Paxton and Alma dead, contained, or alive.
