He only sees the things Ziv is thinking about at that moment unless he decides to look harder, which he isn't.
Also, he's sort of blocking out every other thought except happy thoughts. Think of it like this:
Zivon's thoughts are monsters running towards a pile of powerful explosives. The explosives of happy thoughts blow up, and start blasting all the sad thoughts into oblivion.

Dani took a deep breathe and closed his eyes.
Come on, Zivon. Don't make me do this. Dani thought with a sigh. But it seemed like Zivon was really not having a good day.
Well, here goes nothing...
Dani disappeared. He reappeared into Zivon's brain, and started hammering Zivon's brain with thoughts of kitty fur balls, icecream, friends, sunshine, cozy naps, and other comforting things in hopes of changing the course of his friend's thoughts. Of course, the panicking boy probably wouldn't even notice Dani was there. The only way anybody would notice they were being possessed was if they 1: Saw the spirit enter them, 2: realize the thoughts weren't their own, or 3: the spirit chose to let them know.

"I got enough of you two before last night." Matt joked back.
"How was your night last night, Matt? Sleep well?" Lily asked. Matt noticed something different about her voice, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He'd have to talk to her later.
"I think I slept too well. Is it weird for someone like me to wake up at ten?" Matt replied.
-Meanwhile, none of them noticed a familiar someone sneaking closer and closer-

Dani headed towards the training dojo. He didn't really know what he was going to do when he got there. He tried archery yesterday, and found he was awful. But even if he was good at it, what purpose would archery serve? There was a magic dojo, but he didn't really have any magic powers that required training. He didn't cast magic bolts, or anything like that. Then there was the physical dojo. Maybe he could try that.
He arrived at the physical dojo to see his good friend Zivon crying at the feet of someone with... A different kind of fashion. Nearby stood someone who looked like he was ready to kill someone.
Dani ran over.
"Zivon, are you alright?" he asked worriedly.
