D&D Beginner [Searching Group + DM]

If I end up running this (as the only person I remember saying they'd be willing to run, I suppose it kind of has to be true), and if for some reason we do it on Discord or Skype, it wouldn't be live sessions anyway. Dun wanna use too many homebrew things with a beginner's game or I'd be like "hey, anyone want to playtest one of my classes so I have a better chance of convincing Dreamscarred Press I'm worth hiring?"

I mean, I can start up a game pretty quickly if everyone's willing to play either on here, or somewhere else without live sessions. Discord would be nice (since I don't generally use Skype much anymore, and only have it on my phone because I haven't bothered to delete it yet) for theoretically quicker character creation help. Because I like to ask a lot of questions to the group, and to individuals, to help flesh out the world and the characters. Even going as far to let people custom-tailor their races and classes (or work with other people playing the same race or class) thematically (current group I have going has sorcerers using the Druid spell list as defenders/defilers of nature through magic, and druids being the more combat-oriented version of the same class; humans as a new race that's a mix of all the other races (because the "base" race they evolved from could breed with other races for evolutionary purposes); and quite a few other fluff things). Of course, there is always the option to play by the book for everything for your race/class.

It makes more sense once I start asking questions. >< That was a weird mix of words all thrown together out of excitement and wanting to get the ideas all out of my head.

You're actually farther into Critical Role than I am; I just finished episode 21 a couple minutes ago. ^~^ But yeah, basically what Harbinger said. Also, you either have (dis)advantage, or you don't. You can't have like 50 advantage factors to get 51 die rolls; it's still just 2 rolls.

On that note, I personally find learning a system to be easiest if I make a character from scratch (or even a few characters), and then play. Some people only need the play portion, since you don't need to know the rules yourself, honestly (though it's nicer to the DM to know them); you say what you want to do, the DM tells you whether or not you can do it, and how to do so mechanically. I mean, even if you know the rules, that's still the case most of the time.

But I'm moderately sure the reason I was holding back from this is...mostly dissolved now? So I could run it, I guess. I don't do anything with voice (because reasons), so doing it on here (since we have a die roller~) is possible. Or roll20. Whichever. If you want a live game, roll20. Otherwise, here, I guess~

If I do run a game for everyone, I'll probably have a DM PC, unless a) the group is absolutely against that, or b) the group is decent-sized (5+) already. I tend to play support roles with DM PCs, so everyone else gets to be awesome. (Playing a healer/buffer/debuffer in my current live game, but we have a party of 3, and we're about to be fighting dragons at level 3, with one person who has only played DnD with us so far, and all of us new to 5e (I learn quickly, and 5e is super easy to learn once you have a handle on it, especially compared to 3.5 and Pathfinder), so...yeah...let them do their awesome sorcery and thievery).

I promise, I'm more coherent in-game. O_O

Edit: Also, I enjoy creative uses of things (like when you've seen Keyleth use thorn whip for stuff, because I have yet to see her use it as written).
Technically the same edit: Dreamscarred Press liked the homebrew conversions of their stuff I posted on Twitter and said it was "pretty cool" a few days ago, so I'm in a much better headspace since when I posted the first time, and have liked all the other content I've posted so far, so next step is use all that stuff to get hired~

Edit2: That last edit had nothing to do with credibility or anything. I'm just super excited still. Whole "Senpai noticed me" thing.

Edit3: My 11 year old sister's got it down. Not that it means much since she's taking high school classes, and will be taking some college ones next year...but still, she went in with next to no experience in Pathfinder, barely picked up even just her class features (druid). Once we switched over, she had everything down the first game.

Would you actually want to play? I could probably run something...but I really shouldn't. RL stuff. May be able to play, though. With the understanding I like more RP and social stuff than combat, but combat's okay sometimes when you have worthwhile features (sucks at low levels, what with all the "I ATTACK IT WITH MY DAGGER" "I ATTACK IT WITH MY DAGGER" "I ATTACK IT WITH MY DAGGER" vs "dagger-dagger-dagger..."

Watching Critical Role myself. Got me to reconsider trying out 5e. Now I have my own stuff for it. I'm super far behind in it and really want to know what's going on currently. SO MUCH NEW STUFF I DON'T UNDERSTAND! Like why Vax has wings in fan art now, and who this new guy is. OMFG I WANNA KNOW.

Ohio. Yeah. It was a place that existed. Like many within, Hayley would be happy if it were wiped off the map. Well, many of the people that mattered, not those sports people and their thoughts about college football and how it would save the planet because they were warriors going to battlegrounds, not a bunch of kids going to play a game all about throwing, kicking, and catching a ball. Like that was going to help them somehow in a war. She wouldn't have been prepared for it either, but she was more the 'loot-the-corspes' type anyway. Not like they needed what they had, so she'd just use their stuff if it came to that.

Her room was cold, as normal. She was sure this guy probably appreciated her for not turning the heat on. The other tenants were other girls like her, but...not. They were just young. Most barely educated. Most...with less than desirable jobs. They also tended to not pay rent with money. Not like this guy cared; he'd been loaded since his great, great grandparents were kids. And if she had her way, she would be too when he died. He didn't have any family - something she didn't understand, since he was so nice and funny and told all the good stories - so his money had to go somewhere. Not that she was conning him out of it or anything. By all means, she was nice to him because he was nice to her. Not her fault he treated her like a daughter sometimes. She probably wasn't the only one. But for all she knew, he was picking up all these PYTs 'cause he wanted to get laid all he could before he died.

She couldn't blame him for that.

She flipped up in her bed. Her reflection in the mirror on the vanity across from the bed looked back at her. Looking to her right, so did the one reflected off the mirror on the wall next to her. She was sure if she looked back, the mirror in the corner opposite both these mirrors would be looking back at her, too, but it was in the dark corner. No one looked there. Not because it was the dark corner, but because she hadn't bothered to put anything there. The mirror was a nice decoration. She wasn't sure why he had three mirrors in this room. She didn't mind at all. The bed was comfortable, even if the slatted Ikea frame was cheap. The nightstand matched it. And that's all that was in here that wasn't in the small corner closet. The lack of anything interesting in the room kept all the distractions away.

Except for her incessantly buzzing phone. She'd been awake for what, 20 minutes? Tops? No need to send a million texts to the nocturnal girl, 'k, people? She didn't much care what they had to say, either. Regardless, all the buzzing made her phone very hard to unlock with her thumb, and basically killed the screen's input. "Mother$%(&$&s, let me unlock this &(#*! What the actual mother^@$&ing &%(* people?! If it's that important, send a little text. I'll get to you. No need to try to wake me up or whatever. I'm awake. %(^#."

When it finally unlocked, she looked at her texts. Contacts all over, not just one person. She found the person most important to her on the list. Some video and a quick message. Exactly what she wanted from people. It read, "Friend of a friend got this. Seattle. Looks fake as hell, but they say it's real." She watched the video that went along with it. Some portal opening, demon-dudes coming out. The CG skills were better than any other art video she'd been sent, so at least the friend of a friend of her friend had some skill.

Naturally, like any concerned citizen should, she texted back. "Whether it's fake or real, that bitch is lucky. Maybe they'll come here."

Personality: Umm...confusing? Very forthright and blunt, or very subtle. Flirty, but aloof. Umm...yeah. You'll see it better in person. She thinks more than she speaks, but she still talks a lot. She doesn't care what people think, but if it's about her, she just hides it until later. Then deals with it herself. Sometimes in naughty ways.

Powers: Polymorph - You change a touched willing subject into another form of living creature. You can choose the new form’s physical qualities within the normal range for their kind. You can’t cause them to become smaller than 2 feet, larger than 16 feet, less massive than 2 pounds, more massive than 4000 pounds, incorporeal, or gaseous.
Upon changing, some of their injuries are slightly healed. They retain all of their normal form's powers, except those requiring body parts the new form does not have. They acquire physical qualities of the new form, while retaining their mind. They do not gain the new form's powers, or extraordinary special qualities like darkvision, low-light vision, blindsense, blindsight, fast healing, regeneration, or scent.
Their equipment remains on the new form if possible, or melds into them and becomes nonfunctional. When they change back, melded items reappear in the same spot and resume functioning. Any new worn items that they can’t wear in their normal form fall off and land at their feet. Any items they could wear in either form, or carry in a body part common to both forms, are still held in the same way. Any separated body parts revert to their true form. If slain, they revert to their original form and remain dead.
Incorporeal or gaseous creatures are immune to this, and a shapechanging creature can revert to its natural form. This power taste a few seconds to manifest, and lasts 7 minutes.

History: Actually passed high school with good grades from actual learning, despite the rumors. Sleeping with the teacher started later. And didn't last long. Something about finding a boyfriend closer to her age. Even that only lasted a few years. Also, documented online (and our esteemed GM knows this). He was not a good influence, but she still managed to motivate herself to go to college, like a good girl. She enjoyed cutting people up for a living, and openly admitted it. But she got sick of the bureaucracy of that field and left to pursue...nothing, really. She's still set for a few more years. Her very recent manifestation of swarms of insects has given her some future ideas to get money from the guy from whom she's renting a room.
