Would you guys rather have it start when people are leaving for the train station, or on the train as its leaving?

We could either go by book year and have it be 2007 or movie year in 2010.

Actually the book years were in the 90's. Harry attended school from 1991. And the Battle of Hogwarts was in 1998 (end of his seventh year) so if you go by book year it'll be 1997/1998
I've never used the Pottermore Wiki...though I assume it would be helpful since most of the information comes from Rowling herself, right?

That would work. It's okay if you've only seen the movies. As long as you understand the movies. Wikipedia, while it might be unreliable, is a good help with getting things right, too.

I'm in another Harry Potter Roleplay on a different site, and it's kinda a little bit strict on canon law and such, so whenever we get stick or need some information, referring to the Harry Potter Wiki helps immensely. A lot of the information on there is extremely reliable, a little better than ordinary Wikipedia.

Name: Silus Nott

Appearance: Silas stands about 6'2", with dark blonde hair and built woth a slight muscular frame. Unlike most snatchers, he refuses to dress in bulky clothes, or smear dark powder around his eyes, and it is likely you will often find him wearing clean black robes whenever you meet him. He is rarely seen in anything else, though he occasionally dons a simple pair of jeans and a polo short when mingling in the muggle world.

Age: 20

What Are You?: Pureblood Snatcher

House: Ex Slytherin

Bio: Silus, coming from a pureblood family, knew he was a wizard from a young age. Unfortunately, muggle law bound him to attend muggle school until he was of leaving age but, thankfully, he only had to endure 6 long years learning mundane subjects alongside what his parents had taught him to be filth. He was often in trouble at school for bullying those he felt were inferior to him and, though he was punished by the school, his parents condoned his behaviour and encouraged him to be cruel to them whenever possible. His childhood years of cruelty and bullying no doubt played a part in shaping him into the cruel young man he is today.

When his acceptance letter from Hogwarts finally arrived on his eleventh birthday, Silas was over the moon. He was glad to finally be rid of the muggle world and to have been taken in by the wizarding world he so longed to be a part of. It was his mother who took him to Diagon Alley to buy his supplies, a trip that was merely uneventful, though wondrous as it was. Silus stared in awe at everything he laid his eyes on while his old fashioned mother snapped at him all the way down the winding street, commanding he stop being such a child and stop staring with his mouth open. She had always been very tight when it came to etiquette and presentation, especially where Silus was concerned. After purchasing his equipment, and hearing an odd comment about his wand length from Ollivander, Silus waited out the next few months with barely contained excitement as the date of his leaving home approached.

He cared little for the train ride, finding himself passing away the hours sat in a cabin by himself with a book open upon his lap, trying desperately to block out the noise from the equally excited students around him. His mother had always taught him to keep his emotions hidden when possible, and he chose that moment to take her advice and sit with a blank, emotionless face all the way to Hogwarts. The Sorting Ceremony was, as he expected, equally as dull. He watched as student after student stepped perched themselves on the chair and had the Sorting Hat dropped upon their heads, woth the hat calling out the names of houses with glee. When Silas sat upon the same stool, the hat took a moment to think where to put him, humming aloud as he did so. It was obvious to Silas he would be placed in Slytherin, as that was where his parents, and their parents before them, had been placed. The hat, whether reading his mind or not, did indeed place him in Slytherin and Silas was greeted with claps and cheers from his new housemates.

It was clear from his very first year at Hogwarts that he would grow up to be a proficient wizard, as he displayed excellent skill from day one. As the years passed and his skills got better, Silas often found his mind wander from class and daydream about things he wouldn't dare talk about aloud. His teachers noticed his odd behaviour and some even tried to talk to him about the dangers of what he was thinking, but it did not sway him from his thoughts. It was over the Christmas holidays in his sixth year that he approached his father on the subject of the Dark Arts. Of course, his father was delighted his son had come to see him about such a topic, and took great delight in showing him what he knew, and leaving him with a promise that on his seventeenth birthday he would teach Silas the exact same. Having just bore witness to a grand knowledge of the dark magic his father was capable of performing, naturally Silas could hardly wait to start learning such things.

And so, upon his return to Hogwarts, he broke into the restricted section late one night and began reading up on everything he could lay his hands on. He was caught several times, and very nearly expelled on one occasion when he was spotted attempting to perform an Unforgivable Curse on another students owl, but his parents simply told the school they would punish him and, after several detentions, Silas was let off and allowed to continue his studies. It was most likely his family's influence with a few teachers at Hpgwarts that allowed this to be pulled off.

By the end of his seventh year, Silas was somewhat profound in the dark arts, having done his research and had lessons from his father. He graduated from Hogwarts with close to top marks in all his subjects, though he left with a darker heart than he had arrived with. He was urged by several of his teachers to deflect from the path he was following, but it was already too late. Silas' mind was already set upon the Dark Arts and joining his father in supporting the Dark Lord's return.

Three years after his graduation, at the age of twenty, Silas was finally intorduced into just such a campaign. His family had a history with one Severus Snape, the current Headmaster of Hogwarts. It was this historical friendship they played upon to induct Silas into Voldemort's cause. Using their influence as a pureblood family they had him initiated as a Snatcher, working alongside Severus to return any student to Hogwarts who thought it below them to return under the Dark Lord's new regime. On the odd occasion, Silas was called upon to venture outside of the castle walls and hunt down wanted criminals and mudbloods the Ministry had called for questioning, though it was rare for him to remain outside of Hogwarts for long. He was usually found very close to Snape's side whenever he was not needed for his skills or he would be roaming the halls of the castle, sending spells flying in the direction of any who annoyed him, or perhaps those who were venturing around when they should be in class. He is well respected by most of the staff and feared by many students, though there are certainly those who refuse to show respect or fear towards him. Most of these students are, of course, members of Dumbledore's army.

Personality: Silas certainly fits the description of a stereotypical Slytherin. Cold, calculating and cunning, with a dash of charm and good looks thrown into the mix for good measure. Being 'civil' isn't at the top of the list for him, especially if he's not conversing with a fellow pureblood. Anyone below that blood status and Silas takes every chance he gets to sneer down and critisize them for the smallest of things. He certainly feels he is better than most people and he often wastes no time in letting them know that. However, he does have his moments and can be 'kind' and outgoing at times, but again this happens when in the company of purebloods. Naturally, he is very picky about those he spends his time with.

Wand Type: Ebony, 13 inches, Slighty Supple, Dragon Heartstring core.

Special Talents: Silas is very skilled in offensive magic, often managing to stun or paralyse his targets within a few moments of spotting them.

Fears/Weaknesses: Silas has a slight fear of heights, though this does not seem to effect him when flying upon a broomstick. The fear spans from a time when his grandfather cast the levicorpus curse on him at a family gathering, for no apparent reason other than for fun.

Due to his skill in offensive magic, and his offensove strategies, he has a weakness with defensive spells. Though he can cast them, some spells, such as the protego charm, may only last for a few seconds, or crumble after one spell hits it rather than the length of time some others are known to last.
