Bio: Mira was born to a proud and pure-blooded family. They traced their ancestry way-back. Mira finds herself amused to finally be aligned with the family 'theme'. The oldest family stories bespeak of dragon-slaying, and thereafter the tales and creatures become older but smaller and smaller as hunting laws became more restrictive meanwhile muggles took up more and more wild territory for their insect-like expansion. The family vault is full of magically taxidermied creatures. Family members have used the family-talent to hunt for boring things like rare artifacts (her father), and some become Aurors (her mother, though she married into the family she fit in quite well).

Her path toward the dark-lord actually began in her schooling years. She came to Hogwarts for the Tri-Wizard tournament, and was chosen to represent her school. She was beaten by a Slytherin. It was a close contest, and she respected his strength, and he inducted her into the cult of the Dark Lord. (If my math is right she would have been in school during the first rise of the dark lord), but alas, the dark lord fell, to a babe no less.

Frightened, Mira had to quickly cover her dark-magic-tracks, and eventually left the country. She hunted in exotic places for a living, harvesting rare materials for wands and potions from hard-to-find magical creatures. Yes, much of this was illegal poaching. She was caught poaching in the East, and thanks to a hefty bribe was only deported back home. By then, the second rising was brewing and Mira caught wind of it through her old connections. Back at civilization she ironed her interview-outfit and found a job at the ministry (with her father's reference) curating and preserving magical artifacts. Bored out of her mind she waited and supported the corruption of the ministry. Recently her talents were noticed and she has been re-assigned to Hogwarts. She hopes to prove herself to the dark lord, and become a full fledged Death Eater when the Dark Lord finally does return.

Personality: Mira always comes off as at first as charming, polite, graceful and accommodating. Dressed impeccably, hair neatly arranged, she understand the value of a good impression. Behind this mask of civility there is something else, a thirst for a greater purpose, for extreme action, for blood perhaps. She keeps her emotions carefully in check, but if the balance is ever tipped by either excitement or frustration Mira will become overwhelmed and take extreme action. She lives at extremes finding the middle road simply impossible to navigate.

Special Talents:

1. Magical creatures, most of her previous professional career was spent hunting and searching for these.
2. She's fairly good with Magical things, artifacts, weapons, wands, identifying them, enchanting them, un-enchanting them. This is one of her and her father's shared hobbies growing up, and she made plenty of her own tools and magical traps in her hunting career.
3. Versed in the ‘knightly artes’, her father also took their supposed knightly lineage pretty seriously (Some pure-blood families look down on these muggle arts, but her father claims that the knights of the round table were in fact wizards and muggles, this is how he defends himself for attending muggle medieval re-enactment type events, her family is pure blood but not muggle-phobic.) She was taught fencing, archery, and courtly dancing. Dancing turns out to be the most useful so far.
4. And she is a good dancer.

Fears/Weaknesses:
1. Pride, she is slow to admit that she is wrong or has any weakness. This can make her a very difficult person to work with or befriend. She is a perfectionist, and holds not only herself, but everyone around her to a very high standard, and might just tell you about it… you know… so that you can better yourself, as everyone should!
2. Obsessive: She has been known to focus too-much upon a thing, to the point of disregarding valid clues in favor of the one she has latched on to (Clue, or person, or idea, etc).
3. Vain, she is rather vain, and will spend an inordinate amount of time in ‘preparation of her equipment’… and her hair. She certainly has had to rough-it in her hunting career, but prefers not to, and will take with her certain 'necessities' (lipstick) even if impractical.
4. Despite her experience hunting creatures, she has not ever hunted nor even combated another wizard nor human (outside of course non-lethal dueling and sparing for sport) so she might forget the human element from time to time, particularly if she is wrapped up in the moment and relying on instinct.

Two questions I had about the Harry Potter universe:
1) Could a person reproduce with a house elf, and would it be considered a pure-blood, assuming it's wizard/witch parent was one?
2) Where did Hermione learn magic before Hogwarts? She doesn't have magical family, so she couldn't learn it from them. I assumed that there were tutors that taught magic to remedial students, and those that never graduated. The last is effectively a GED course for magical drop-outs.

1) I highly doubt it, but Hagrid's human dad did reproduce with a giant. So, I have no idea.
2) She read all of the textbooks and proably more magic books before going.

2) Do you mind if I make Phillip's wife a kind of private tutor for remedial students? She would have gotten authorization so that she could teach her husband, and then made a career of it.

I suppose that's alright. Go for it.

Cool. Ok. Now I just have to make up their three kids now. I'll visit them from time to time, and may be leaving there when it starts.

My opinions on the questions presented:

1. Such a mix is never mentioned in the book. There are several reasons that such a thing would probably be very twisted, the slave-like relationship with wizards, the differences in physicality and mentality, among other things... but if twisted is what your going for that's another matter!(oh look we are talking about sex again!)

I'm certain that a mixed child would not be considered pure-blood. It is made clear in the books that Voldemort and his death eaters view other non-human magical races as inferior, and to be exterminated or enslaved. (Remember the scandal of having a Centaur teach in the school? The headmistress of Beauxbatons being offended when Hagrid suggested she was part Giant? there were a few examples.)

2. I think once she found out a wizard she read all her textbooks before the semester started. She is super smart and talented so she was able to pull it off before school. I think that is what they say that in the books. I think they also say that no one is supposed to learn magic really before they start school, but it happens in the wizard culture anyway and no one really enforces it as an actual rule.

But we can do what we want :D
