She can be funny at times and doesn't care what people think about her, but she certainly does enjoy her attention. The Connors live in a very small two bedroom apartment in the middle of town and struggle to survive. Tanya has three jobs and often borrows money from her father to make ends meet. Matt and Lilah each have one bedroom, while Tanya sleeps in the living room, as a general rule, friends have never been allowed over. The kids spend most of their time with their grandfather, who lives on a horse ranch just on the outskirts of town. He dotes on his grandchildren, while blaming their mother for the poor way they live. He has offered to let them move in on several occasions, but Tanya's pride always gets in the way and she refuses.

Lilah (or J, as she's more often referred to) grew up with out a lot, her mother was always working and both her and her brother were left to fend for themselves a lot of the time. She loves her mother and understand how hard she works and why, but she still gets angry with her because of it as well. She is much closer to her grandfather, who gave her the love she has for horses. She spends as much time as she can outside the apartment, out with her friends. Currently she's hoping to make more friends as she goes through high school.

Matt has taken his father's abandoning his family a lot harder than his sister, and as a result is overly protective of her both her and his mother because of it. He is friendly and can mingle easily enough, but has a hard time trusting people. He will assume the worst until he is proven that he can trust somebody. He is smart, finding classes easy, but not going out of his way to make it look that way. He is built and likes sports, he has considered joining the sports team of the high school eventually.

Just like J, Matt grew up without a lot of luxuries, but instead of resenting it like his sister, he did everything in his power to help his mother. Finding odd jobs around the neighborhood and giving her the money. Keeping the house clean while she's gone, etc. He's never blamed his mother for their father leaving them, nor does he blame his sister for being angry at their mother, though he has no problems reminding her that it's not her fault. He doesn't spend as much time at his grandfather's as J does, but he'll go over ocassionally, usually as a favor to either his sister or his mother. Matt is the biggest reason why his mother never dated again, he made his dislike for other men known for a very young age and rarely trusted them around the women in his life.
