Ardere Terrane

Wanting to retort to the comments by the pyromancer, Ardere bit her lip and whispered her gratitude as the group moved away from her path. Sensing mild hostility from the upperclassmen, the redhead ate away her sorrows at the carnival food she ordered. Thank goodness these luxuries were free. As just another face in the crowd, Ardere continued her wandering, gazing up at the decorations, advertisements, and the various feats of superpowers being performed by the students. A part of her wanted to spectate Thor's Hammer challenge yet her body migrated to the entrance of the fortune teller.

'Hocus Bogus' as her older brother would say. Peter, for all his kindness, has little patience for this kind of superstition. Ardere almost laughed at the thought. Though there was someone already inside, the redhead was content to wait to finish her meal. She figured it would be more polite that way; not getting any stains on the tablecloth or worse, the tarot cards.

I don't think she likes me... Ardere thought after being seemingly passed over without a second glance by the upperclassman before disappearing into the crowd of students. Would anyone like me? First impressions of this school have already planted negative thoughts in her mind, thoughts she could at least ignore by eating food here. Of course, some things are never straightforward; the line hasn't moved — an annoyance for sure since Ardere wasn't knowledgeable of the amount of time allocated for the carnival.

Looking ahead, she spotted a cluster of students of mixed grade levels, at least freshmen and either seniors or juniors, talking amongst themselves. Although Ardere couldn't make out the words from this distance, she could at least see tensions were high among them. The redhead immediately wondered if that's where the origins of the trail of smoke she saw earlier were. Seeing that one of the students has erupting fires from his body, Ardere was amazed at how bright and colorful the flames were, even if the sight last for a few moments.

But it doesn't change the fact that they were holding up the line. Seeing that no one else was willing to speak up and feeling impatient herself, Ardere approach these taller students. Are you all in line? She addressed the four students before here, If not, can you move?!

Whether out of indecisiveness or extreme reluctance to move an inch, Ardere remained in place, anchored to the concrete sidewalk, standing straight as a lampost. What broke her thousand-yard stare when an upperclassman walked past her, giving the redhead a nice view of the blonde girl's thigh-high boots, black as coal, and the pink skirt that seemed too short for normal school dress code.

But this was not a normal high school and she almost wanted to speak up and compliment her but the student was already moving too fast. With that moment missed, Ardere slightly kicked at the sidewalk, wondering if she could handle being alone in a crowd. Between the junk car lifting competition and getting food, she went for the latter. Super strength wasn't her power though she would like to see her older brother put on a show. Though the line was long, it wasn't without entertainment. Already there was drama up ahead. Judging by the smoke, someone got set on fire.

She couldn't help but laugh shyly. At least there's some comfort in knowing she wasn't the only one that lacks control.

"I don't want to be here. I don't belong here." Ardere's first words upon seeing Avenger Academy upon exiting the rental car her older brother drove. 100 students before her might as well be the entire population of New York City. Hot weather and burning shame still lingered in the air around the redhead. Silently, she quickly turned around to embrace him as soon as he left the driver's seat. Tears started to form though Ardere quickly blinked them away. "I'm sorry, Peter. About-"

"I get it. I know. You said 'sorry' many times before." Peter huffed, giving his little sister a brief hug. "But it doesn't change anything. You're a student here now and unless you want to burn our house down again, you'll stay here until you graduate or something like that."

"I-" Ardere spoke up.

"Listen, I believe in you." He knelt down in front of her. "Mom and dad, they also believe in you. They just...need time and space."

"Being across the continental US and by four years at least?" the redhead smirked, though her sarcasm came from denial.

"You did burn away mom's bank statements, passwords, tax returns as well as almost 30 years of dad's art career..." Peter listed off the damages before stopping himself when he noticed Ardere was about to burst into tears and start a fire on her thin cloth turtleneck. "Anyways, go get some food, grab a drink, and play a game of two. Trust me, you'll grow to like it."

"Will you write to me?" She pleaded when he turned to leave.

"Always. Now go out there and enjoy this place. If you think this place has too many people, you should see my high school."

After saying their farewells, Ardere turned away from the departing car and simply stared at the school before looking at the carnival scenery. Still a statue carved from marble, she looked away toward anything that could catch her attention.
Lucy can still talk to Matilda. At least telepathically
Matilda Armstrong

"It's not magic." Matilda quickly shook her head, "Anything but magic. It's -"

She lost her train of thought when she saw Haylen unveil himself. His appearance was anything but normal. A gross mockery of the mundane face with his scar and mismatched eyes. He scared her as Matilda made half a step away from him. Yet, she still quickly shoved the $100 into his hand as if the bill was cursed.

"You're like me? Both with powers?" she stuttered, "That-wait...you hear that?"

Hearing Lucy's voice inside her mind, Matilda looked around hastily before making eye contact with the telepath. "How much do you need?" The brunette thought, hoping it wasn't a coincidence.

Alright, my sheet should be completed by now.
Hmmm, energy or magma...I'm contemplating on it

Deciding to switch to heat generation for now.
I would prefer to change the powers rather than rewrite the entire character
