"You know you aren't that good at deflecting right? I swear your sister is a better liar." Dean finished his can of Turbo and began crushing it into a condensed aluminum ball. He got up from Golem's "Hand" which subsequently delved back into the earth leaving no trace it had been there. Moments later, the Primal spirit of earth resurfaced in its miniscule form and climbed back onto Dean's waiting shoulder to scrutinize the present mage. Though the Spirit seemed distracted somewhat by something above the two mages.

Even while out of the ground, all the earth around them was currently Dean and Golem's Territory. "Cut the crap already. I'm the very last steward to potentially fly off the handle."

He didn't get much time to argue further when suddenly a new voice spoke, like a mountain deciding to address you.

[WHAT IS THAT?]

Dean stood frozen. his eyes on the verge of popping out of their sockets from the shock. In All the years he had spent with the Spirit of Earth, This was the second time Golem felt the need to speak. Slowly, Dean raised his head upwards to see where the spirit was referring to. Only to see something . . . [Wrong] That had just been in the air over Shield Town. Call it what you want, Witch sight, Astral vision, the means to see magic and the astral sea are the same no matter the label. What it had Dean see an inhuman swirling mass of what looked like ink but with the characteristics of a soul. like it was alive.
"That . . . um. That doesn't look right." He swallowed and looked to see if his present company was seeing the same thing he was.

Eyes closed as he reclined in his makeshift chair. Dean gave Wolf the finger in her general direction as she zipped off to her “perch”. She knew that he knew she didn’t want to spoil the secret anytime soon, especially without an audience around.

This was probably the 31st time she’s threatened to tell? No. It was the 32nd. Eh, didn’t really matter. He did his part, time to get back to what he did best. Chilling.

. . . Or, at least that would be the case if it wasn’t for this asshole showing up.

“Spirits you guys don’t miss a beat do you?” Dean didn’t even open his eyes yet to confirm who it was, he didn’t need to. Holding a hand out to his side, a bright red can of Turbo shot out of the ground into his waiting grasp. He opened it and took no time gulping half of its contents down.

With a satisfied sigh, he finally opened his eyes and addressed the last person he really wanted to see now. “Out of your entourage you aren’t this fast. Why are you here Archer?” There was a sharp note to his question. Though he wouldn’t become hostile to someone of this caliber without reason, Dean wasn’t an idiot, Archer making an appearance usually meant something was up.

And that would mean he had focus . . . Lucky him.

Alex squinted at the woman and moved to be closer to Yue’s prone form. Keeping his head on a swivel to not let the unknown person out of his sight. “You still haven’t told me who you are or why you are here.”

His instincts were telling him to keep his guard up. Not a good sign. If they had powers she had no indication as to what they might be. That put Alex even more on edge now. He squared his shoulders and kept his arms ready at his sides. “Sorry but I’m not really in the mood for games.”

He stared back at the grinning women for what felt like a solid minute. That was around the time when he could hear the approaching rumble and growl of tires, tracks and engines. The forge finally mobilized. Finally some good news. And from the sound of it they wouldn’t be long to get here.

It took some time but Alex was finally feeling some degree of better. The ringing in his ears was almost gone, his body didn't feel utterly disgusting despite where he had previously been lodged inside of. Could be worse, there was a good chance of him being actually sore from this encounter though. He'd complain about it later.

Alright. Gotta get up. Need to find Yue and make sure she's ok. Then get us back to Shield Town.
He ticked off his mental checklist before trying to pull himself into an upright position. He then proceeded to slip on the viscera that coated the ground, landing him on his back again with a resounding thud despite the short distance.

"Fucking, No! not doing this bullshit right now." He grumbled loudly mostly to himself and the universe in general.

Tentatively, Alex made an attempt to make a small construct in front of his eyes to see if he had anything in him. There was some surprise when the hard light cube flickered into existence and there wasn't so much as a prickle of pain from his head. that was either really fortunate, or a very bad sign.

. . . Screw it. Can't risk leaving us out here if more beasts show up. A burst of blue energy got him off the ground, it was quickly followed by a barrier field that passed over him head to toe. All the blood and gore passed right off him, being taken along with the field as it passed over him. He gave himself a moment to be thankful he even learned this trick in the first place. Never had to conventionally clean his costume and armor most days.

Back on track, Alex turned to inspect the field. . . . . Well, The hydra was definitely dead. He wouldn't be surprised if some pieces had launched high enough to stain the tower plate overhead. Real question was what wasn't blood splattered in the general vicinity.

Gross.

After finding his helmet, and discovering it was miraculously in one piece, Alex finally Came across Yue. He instantly tensed up at the sight. Not just due to the fact that she appeared unconscious, but mostly because of the random person that was currently hovering around her doing . . . something? best guess was that powers were involved. or at least something was going on. you don't just see random people alone outside settlement walls with a shitstorm like this going on.

Part of him felt like he had seen her somewhere before but just couldn't place it yet. He quickly slammed his helmet on and trudged over, making sure to keep both women in his field of view the entire time.

"Hey! Not to sound rude but would you mind stepping away from my friend there and identifying yourself?" As he spoke, his eyes began to glow blue. With a mental push a fairly solid barrier formed around Yue's prone form for good measure. Better safe then sorry. Still no real feedback from that field either though. Concerned later, gotta focus on the now.

It was almost easy to mistake the pounding on the door for the thrumming of his own head and ears. Having only gotten up off the floor moments ago, Dean Locklear was trying to clean the blood off his face when it finally registered that someone was at the door.

Wasn’t even paying attention to the wards. He felt like slapping himself for that if not for fear of being concussed from . . . Whatever that scream had been. Everything was in chaos. Whatever had caused that scream forced an early emergence of beasts much more numerous and violent then normal. He could only imagine how the other settlements were holding out right now. Shieldtown was just holding out because if it’s reinforced nature and the hardiness of its residents.

Damnit Alex, where are you? Better not have gone and gotten himself hurt in all this.

Had to focus. Home was the priority right now. Little dude was perched up on his shoulder, nuzzling into him. Dean patted his partners head reassuringly. Poor thing had to have been scared when he just dropped and began bleeding from the nose.

“Right, let’s see what’s going on now.” Dean opened the door right around the moment Wolf yelled for him to wake up. “Jeez women you don’t gotta shout. We got this.”

He brushed passed Shieldtown’s head scout, giving her a pat on the shoulder while casually strolling forth. Various trinkets on Dean’s person began to break and pop, their mana reservoirs draining back into him. His unassuming form swelling with power now, Dean closed his eyes and held out his hands. Through his partner, they felt the creatures outside the walls as well as those that had began to make it into the fortress town. ”Damn, lot more then I thought.” He turned to meet the gaze of the stone creature on his shoulder. “Ready Golem?”

The currently minuscule primal spirit of earth nodded vigorously and leapt off Dean’s shoulder. Sinking into the ground like it was a liquid.

Working in tandem, the two expanded their “territory”. Two minutes based and soon they were able to feel just about every one of the frenzied beasts on the ground.
Targets found. Let’s keep it simple. Soften, mold, then harden.

Patches of earth around most of the creatures suddenly shifted to be more loose, that was Dean clapped his hands together. Tendrils of earth lashed out towards every beast, hardening into sharp stone on contact.

In a mass cacophony of pained yelps and howls, almost too suddenly, more then eighty percent of the monsters present became impaled on jagged stones. Some were still alive, struggling to remove themselves from the stones. Dean wasn’t really comfortable leaving the monsters to suffer though. With a motion of his hands, the still struggling beasts were further impaled by more spikes.

When the last spiked monster finally went limp, The stone spikes retracted back into the ground. Leaving no trace of ever having emerged other then the traces of residual mana.

Dean dropped his hands and let out a tired sigh. Not actually exhausted, not in the slightest. Golem did a good chunk of the difficult work after all. Dean was just a tad lazy. And there was the fact that he was reviving a bit still on top of his mind being elsewhere.

He dropped to the ground, a large hand of stone reaching up out of the earth second before he touched the ground to catch him. Making for an emergency chair.
”Alright! I did my part. You guys go finish all the rest of the crap. I need a minute.” He leaned back and just waved Wolf to go away.

A trail of short lived energy pulses marked Alexander's "flight path" as he made his way towards the roiling dust cloud being kicked up by the oncoming Apex. He Could have at least tried to call it in for some form of backup, but if that . . . scream had any equal or greater effect on anybody else nearby then he was on his own. The foundry's residents wouldn't be geared up soon enough either. Alex was really getting sick of the universe making him play the "Last line of defense" roll as consistently as it did. If there was a god they probably found all of this hilarious.

He could hear the damn thing bellowing and roaring now. All in different intervals somehow. His confusion was short lived when something was launched out at him at considerable speed. A layered platform of blue light flashed into existence just in time for the missiles to crack against the hardlight. Some even breaking through enough to become imbedded in the construct, causing Alex to have jump so as to not let himself get hit.

"Well, at least it isn't lightning this time." He looked over the bone spikes that had stuck themselves into his temporary perch and found them covered in some sort of liquid. This having come from an Apex monster it was probably safe to guess that the things were either toxic, corrosive, or a combination of the two.
Lookin down further through the mostly transparent barrier revealed the creature in all its terrible glory. It had stopped to look up at him, its three heads glared up at him with snapping crocodilian jaws.

Getting a better look at the Apex now, it resembled a hydra with a few heads missing and instead fused with dinosaur parts. Wherever its boney armor platting would have hindered its movement was instead covered with a thick oily fur. Its tail possessed a bone club at the end that was also studded with wicked bone spikes. Having two powerful arms helped drag its coiling serpentine body around entirely to face Alex. if it weren't for the natural armor and fur Alex could swear that the thing was all muscle.
The bright glowing light that seeped out of every seam of its body gave the beast an almost cartoonish appearance of danger as if the thing was radioactive.

The thing must have had good senses to have seen him up so high despite the dust cloud it had previously been in. Which means it could probably hear him too. Since he had its attention, Alex figured he could taunt it a bit to see how intelligent the thing was. "A Hydra. Well obviously I'm not going to try cutting off any of your heads cause I'm not a complete idiot. Since I've never seen one like you before, I guess I get to name you! Maybe Tyrant Hydra? Oh that's a bit too cool for you, why not fluffy?" There was some irony in the situation given that Alex's Aegis costume was Greek inspired and he was facing down an actual hydra. granted he wasn't wearing a lion skin and there didn't seem to be a giant enemy crab anywhere nearby.

Whether or not the Apex could hear him and was upset over being named fluffy of all things was anyone's guess. I did however look royally pissed off. Rearing back its heads and spitting out more bone spikes up at the armored rouge. Alex simply jumped up and formed another platform underneath himself, letting the spikes riddle his previous field and allowing it to dissipate before it shattered entirely. "I get the impression that your upset for some reason?"

Not even a moment later Alex saw the damn thing rocketing up towards him. in a panic, Alex used the platform to catapult himself off to the side. Not a second later before the Apex crashed into his previous barrier, shattering it on impacted dropping back down nearly 100 feet to the ground. All three heads quickly clocked onto Alex as the Hydra coiled up its body tightly before launching upward again. The shear force of the motion pulverizing the ground it used as its launch point. Again and again, Alex shot away from its snapping jaws and fast moving bulk. He wasn't in the mood to try and test if its biteforce would be enough to puncture his durable body.

"No use just playing keep-away. Gotta try something." That something came in the form of a barrier field being generated underneath the Hydra as it coiled again to try and catch him. One of the heads looked down in puzzlement before it was launched into the air. The thing flailed and roared as it said through the air with the grace of a sixteen wheel freight truck.
Not wanting to waste the opening, Alex launch himself at the Apex, flinging himself multiple times to quickly pick up speed.

The two collided with a thunderous Crack. Alex hitting whatever counted as this things solar plexus with an elbow strike. weighing nearly a quarter of a ton and having bones that might as well be indestructible, the rather simple martial arts move was devastating when used by a brute of Alex's level. The Apex reeled as the two of them came hurtling back down to the ground.

Quick to pick himself up, Alex let loose a burst of concussive blue force to blow away the dust and get eyes on the Apex again. Only to get hit center of mass by the Hydra's tail club, which might as have hit him at the same speed as a bull whips tip if the sound was anything to go by.

Staggering a bit, Alex picked himself off the ground and began to crack his joints and roll his shoulders. Brute rating aside, He was pretty sure that hit was gonna leave some form of bruise. He coughed to clear his lungs. "I'm probably gonna feel that one in the morning. Or maybe in an hour." Looking up, the Hydra had already oriented itself to coil up and face him. Letting out a sigh, Alex rolled his shoulder and began forming hardlight armor around his cracked suit. Spikes jetting out everywhere after he felt it was sufficiently reinforced. "Alright. round two Fluffy?"

With a roar from both the hydra and Alex, the two charged into each other at full force and resumed their clash.
