Yes, Darrken and Araile do not know/ remember the feeling of love. Love had wonderful effects on people. It makes transform from selfish to selfless. It is the act of putting someone's life before your own. It is about feeling sad if the one you love is sad. It is the striving to end suffering of the loved one. Love is all this and more. This is why love is used so much. It promotes character development and can be important for plot.
I think falling loving is important Character development and signs of it are showing already.
I see your characters in love because they fit no where else and they lived similar lives. Not because of their genetics
