Topics between the four seemed varied, depending on the level of seriousness that people wanted to discuss. Everyone knew the overall risks and challenges they faced but there was still an attempt to keep things superficial and easy-going for the time being, as dread and danger would be waiting for them soon enough. Katniss was amused by Haymitch's begrudging compliment to Gale. It really was a small step but Haymitch rarely gave praise in Haymitch-Speak, being "okay" was pretty good. She gave Gale a small quick smile as Prim teased him a little. The conversation had shifted a lot and was beginning to wind down finally.
Katniss wasn't the only one surprised by Haymitch's select words but he would take what he could get and figured that was as good as it would be, between the two of them. Gale felt he had said more than enough to try to mend fences and Haymitch was trying in his own way as well. Any other forcing and their progress would lay in ruin. Gale shook his head and Prim. "Thanks, I think you're okay too." He chuckled lightly and looked around their suite as Prim then noted how close the Games were. "They'll be even closer tomorrow." He said. It wasn't a comforting sentiment though it hadn't been meant to be.
Gale was often blunt and to the point with things and his direct manner of looking at things made it a little easier to face the Games and those in his way of keeping the plan on track. He knew he'd have to kill and he was prepared to do so. He was also prepared to die, if it meant ensuring the safety of those in his alliance. His word was his bond and Gale wanted to make sure he was safe but that the others were as well. The Games couldn't be seen as some horrible event, but just something the four of them needed to, and would, overcome. "I plan on getting as much sleep between now and then, as possible." He said finally and got up and looked at the others.
"Good night." He nodded and waited for Prim before they both headed off towards the left where their rooms were.
"Night." Katniss replied and glanced to Haymitch beside her. He had been very good tonight when it came to getting along with the others, it meant a lot to her.
And yet there was really no use in turning a blind eye to Prim and Gale's relationship, whatever it entailed. Katniss knew Gale and Prim weren't stupid, wouldn't do anything crazy. For now, she wanted to look forward to sleeping in, just as Gale had mentioned. Back home, sleep was a rarity for the girl but now she had been getting rest ever since she reconciled with Haymitch. It was a weird cure for nightmares but she knew the pair benefited from it, even if they refused to admit it worked for them in more than one. "We better get some sleep too." She commented and got up as well. Their mess, what little there was, would be cleaned up before dawn and though she might not sleep in, she still intended on being productive while savoring the idle time they had.
She headed back to her own room, figuring tonight they could crash in hers, as opposed to Haymitch's. She walked over to the balcony and thought back to when they actually kissed for the first time, it felt like years ago and yet it was barely a few days and yet so much had happened between them. It would be hard not to say anything tomorrow night on stage, she'd be pressed for juicy gossip and she'd have to walk the fine line of still caring for Peeta but being torn up about how things couldn't work out thanks to the Quarter Quell and the wedding being called off. "I'm not that great of a liar." She muttered and turned back towards the blond man. "Do you have any idea what you'll be asked tomorrow night?" Her topics were likely love and family but Haymitch's would surely be about his past, as well as having Peeta take charge.
But wouldn't there be some question about his own affairs of the heart?
Meanwhile, Gale and Prim had moved into her room for the evening. He had excused himself briefly to get changed, and also to give Primrose the same privacy, and when he returned, he figured they could use the time to talk about the interview. They should consult Peeta about what they should do but while he didn't mind making their status known, he also didn't want to do something that made Prim uncomfortable or added more stress to their delicate situation. "If you'd rather we not say anything tomorrow night, I'd understand." He said softly and walked over to where she was sitting on the side of the bed and slipped his arms around her. "We could keep things vague." He shrugged.
His relationship wasn't fake, it was real and he knew it was more precious than any game or threat, he'd protect Prim no matter what the arena may be.
