The task had seemed so simple but she had soon discovered that it was far more delicate and taxing. While she hadn't expected instant mastery and control over the challenge presented to her, she had expected it to be somewhat easier given her strengths in chakra control already. Sakura was given another dose of reality in a way. Learning the Water Dragon Jutsu wasn't easy and it took a lot of repetition in order to get any progress started. She supposed that would be Kakashi's main objective when it came to new jutsu to learn. It was a tiring road but she knew she needed to continue to buckle down and not get deterred so easily.
When she had inquired as to where they were in regards to their mission and targeted progress, he moved his head and informed her that they were doing rather well. Sakura held back the urge to make a witty comment as he then gestured to a small body of water. He said he wanted to go there and do some more training since they were ahead of schedule. Part of herwas tired and wanted to protest but the more stubborn part of her wanted to go ahead and get moving right away. The pair began to eat either way and Sakura focused on gathering her strength so that she'd be useful when they arrived at the lake he mentioned. As the girl tried to pace herself, Kakashi Sensei began to talk about their target, Taro.
The news that his kekki genkai could absorb moisture wasn't good for her, not when she was training with water.
Sakura found herself feeling considerably disadvantaged, even more so when she considered his rank was much higher than hers. Before she could begin to doubt herself, Kakashi then brought up Zabuza and how that encounter could be similar to the one they were about to have with Taro. This only made her feel more uncertain about her tagging along. She wanted to help, not just Kakashi but also those lost kids who were likely scared out of their minds. The shinobi then said that if things got out of hand and he told her go, that she would need to do as he asked. She wanted to quickly say of course she'd listen to him and do that but she also knew in the moment, she would feel conflicted and leaving him behind wouldn't be an attractive option to her.
"I...I understand." Sakura finally said as she looked up from her meal, knowing he was very serious and that it was a possibility. The mission was a serious one, even if they were training and tossing jokes each other's way. Sakura knew she would need to be able to do something when Taro made it impossible for her to use water jutsu without him messing it up. "I'd also like to make sure I can deal with hand to hand combat and weaponry. If my water jutsu becomes useless, I need to be able to keep fighting anyway." Sakura told him as she finished up her bento and packed it back away so she could bring the container back home to her mother. She got to her feet and let out a heavy sigh, trying to collect her thoughts the same why she had collected her chakra in her finger.
"I'm ready to go." She said and took his bento box and put it away before she slung her backpack over her shoulder.
There wasn't anymore doubt or sarcasm, only determination to see the mission through.

Basics are so lame. But necessary. Maybe she can go learn from Tenten when it comes to using tools better than from what they taught the teens in the Academy.
It would be best to skim over the training and just figure out which jutsu she has a handle on and which are still being polished. I may need to actually make a CS to keep track. >___>
We could then have Gai and Lee find Kakashi and Sakura upon their return? I assume Iruka will be making his rounds to tell people he's hosting a party in like 5 days for everyone to attend.

I'd say after Kabuto gets away, they'd be able to back and help the kids get back to their families and I guess the Sand's nin would be able to help while Kakashi and Sakura rested that night before heading back to Konoha.

So you're thinking Kabuto would attack Taro just as Kakashi and Sakura are close to winning and thus apprehending him to soon question? I don't see Kabuto attacking Kakashi and Sakura yet though, I see him as more of the Lord Baelish where he just ties up the loose end and makes his escape because I'm sure Sakura would want to know if he has Sasuke. I figure if they go after Kabuto, that would be when the rest (if any are left) of the henchmen overwhelm them at the end of the long day. Like you, I see Kabuto being someone to face, but down the road.

I was thinking we'd have them arrive in Tanzaku, try to question where a bunch of kidnapped kids would be hiding around the town, the next day get ambushed and pretty much deal with him that day so by nightfall, they find the kids and backup arrives the next day? When maybe they go find where they stashed Taro, they find he's already been killed by Kabuto? Or would he kill Taro in front of Kakashi or Sakura? I assume that when they'd be confronting Taro and his goons, it would sort of go in a wave, he sends his lesser men to bait Kakashi and Sakura, in the afternoon, they finally have their battle?
