Can you give me a pop and military number?

How are we going to control family members that have been married off to the house of a different player? Are they in control of the player of the house of their husbands? Or do they remain in control of the player they originally belonged to as far as roleplaying with them goes?

People will remain in control of characters they have created from their dynasty even if their shipped off to be married or are hostage in another court (unless you want to give up control of course). What of children you may ask? Well simplest solution then would be whichever last name they have is the dynasty they belong to, and thus, under the control of that player. (pretty much in classic Crusader Kings style)
Double post.

I'd also like a population estimate, albeit with a slight reduction in numbers for plot reasons. Anyway, here's a preview for the house I'm making. If anyone wants a sigil in this style, PM me and I'll try my best.

How can a population of 4.3 million have 108.000 soldiers and a population of 1.8 million only 9.000? Something seems off in that part :)Also, an army of 100.000 men for a single realm seems rather large to me. When you look at european military history of the middle ages armies in the field typically ranged from 3.000 to 10,000 soldiers. Especially when the armor of knights became better, western armies became smaller. Untrained levies with pitchforks drawn from the peasant population simply had no value anymore on the battlefield.I'm looking for two strategic marriages:1. Djegan Khyriin, elder brother to my faction leader and Ambassador to the faction in Skyhaven. He's aged 45 and has 4 children.2. Fiora Khyriin, sister of my faction leader. Aged 41. I'm looking for a husband for her :)

Now I notice where I went wrong, I have to remember to drop that last zero else it to bonkers. But there, not its sorted.

I revised both previous calculations, at least now that I know what cases it I can avoid it in the future.

May I also have a population & military size evaluation please? :) As the climate map on the interest check didn't cover the region in which my nation's situated, it may be important to mention I intend the region to be semi-arid due to its proximity to the desert so this will probably affect the calculation.

Say, when do we start the next day?

I'm convinced that he must have added an extra zero or something.

That's what I get for doing this near midnight, wheres my head?

But yes that should be 4,598,100, so about 4 and a half million. Not the madness I accidentally put earlier. >.>

The military numbers for Solamike's nation are correct however.

As for Noctua I got about the same as I did before.

Population: 4,323,000
Military: 21,615

There's almost as much mountains as their is farming land, which is probably the only thing keep Noctua from having more people then its neighbours. Though I imagine Noctua would conceivably need shorter time to gather levies, as most of the population is likely clumped rather close together.

Wait, population and military is all decided by the GM then? Thought it was being left up to our discretion. What are mine looking like?

I decided it would be faster, I mean I could give everyone the rough sq miles of their nations and tell them to calculate it...But the end result would be the same.

Your Nation would be looking at;

Population: 1,788,150

Military: 8,940

Taking into account all the smaller islands this is what I end up with.

Seems like I was following the wrong interest check the whole time. Well, whatever. I guess I'll stake a claim while there's still land available- may I have the rest of the desert east of the pale orange plot and north of the grey plot? Thanks, and I'll slowly work on my sheet.

Yup, it's still open, and it's a good thing I left it open, heh.

Is Lord Marshal position available to play?

It is, though, when the High Houses vote to be Lord Regent(which is the opening event of the RP), it will be whoever is playing the Lord Regent who picks the new members for the council seats. (Of course, he's not allowed to pick anyone from his house.)

Can I also apply? Thanks.

Of course! ^^

Claiming a spot:It's a pretty large area, but I imagine it's sparsely populated so it evens out.

That's fine.

Edit: forgot to drop the zero. :P
Actually thought up what would be a fairly easy way to calculate that using Medieval Demographics Made Easy. All that's needed is finding out the approximate square miles of each hold.

Hmm, with 3,930,000 miles being the overall size of the continent shouldn't be to hard for me to get that rough estimate on hold size by miles. Then I'd just need to take into account climate and geography for average population density for each hold.

Probably the fastest way to do this is for people to just PM when they want to find out their approximate size in people (I doubt people like doing the math as much as I do), for Nex for example, which is looking at something of 353,700 sq miles, with 110 population density due to having some of the most fertile land in Elyden. Which would give you almost 4 million in total. Rough estimate counting every person living in that area but they don't need to be exact down to the number.

Basic rule of thumb being 0.5% capable of being levied leaving you with 194,535 in total. Of course taking into account the time period only half of that would be supportable for long (You would need an amazing economy to keep that many men up for long). Which would cut it down to 97,267, which is still impressive. (ironically this is only a little under what the Reach was capable of)

So that should help.

Anyone else wanting specifics on population and thus military size just let me know.

I don't know why it's not sought after, to be honest. If you just go as far as a map and some world details you could ideally have on it whatever you want and the lore becomes really more of a community thing, or in the very early stages so unwritten and unexplored nothing's really invalid to the story. It's only when things get so large or people set up so close that they need to perhaps know enough of each other's nation OOC that they can have consistent cultures or cultural story telling. It's so unburdened from the rigors of having to know about RL history to make an acceptable Alternate History RPs it's shocking it's ignored. And if you wanted medieval England, you could theoretically replicate that in such a setting.

Precisely why I love made up settings though strangely you will find few players, at least in my experience, willing to pitch in their own ideas for a fantasy setting. Which is Absolutely maddening when I think about it, who wouldn't want to help create a world and have a hand in it's creation? Knowing you helped create a interesting setting.

I've opened up co-world building in the past and...got very little interest, people tend to gravitate to A, worlds with per-established history and rules, or B, worlds that are already very detailed and leave little room for in put from the player. This has always just boggled my mind, but I suppose not many Roleplayers love world building as much as I do. I remember first stumbling across the Guild and the first Rp I saw was a NRP where players were literally mini-gods creating their own Race, cultures, histories etc. I loved the idea.

I think my NRP I made very recently is the only Fantasy NRP not based on pre-made setting(unless you count the Steam punk RP's). I guess people are not bored with WWI-II yet. I suppose people will always gravitate to what is familiar.
Welcome back!

Glad to see another member of the Living dead.
