You're overgeneralising the popularity of these things which is missing the/Innue's point. There is a great audience and demand regardless of whatever its popularity is in the mainstream because that's what a lot of people who are rping are interested in. Also, superheroes are indeed a lot more narrow in genre for rps... it's an rp about superheroes. Whereas anime inspired rps , but can instead be based and influenced on anime/japanese video game tropes, of which there's a great many deal of things. You can extend that to literally anything you wanted, from slice of life highschool rps, to fantasy, scifi, whatever have you. Superhero rps on the other hand just tend to be... comic book influenced tropes which are again comparitively more niche and are based only around superheroes. This is why there's more 'anime focused rps', because the possibility of what someone could do with them is simply that much greater in comparison.

It might be different for RPs specifically. I do admit I don't invest a large amount of time scanning interest checks, so I don't passively know the extent of popular theme's at the time (nor did I ever pay attention to such a thing even during my 20k+ posts RP days).

Superheroes by bare minimum just require you have a power or ability, outside of that you can do almost anything with the RP. And it is true that you can have RP's based on Japan culture, but most anime RP's I've seen were fandom ones, not ones that went "Let's make a unique anime like RP". Unless if you count any RP people use an anime pic for appearance in the CS to be an anime RP, in that case almost every RP is an anime RP though.

Winter Soldier?

Winter Soldier shows how vulnerable Shield really is which was a nice touch.
But it didn't really address the actual terror and chaos that might happen with civilians when shit goes down.

It's actually a trombone.*is a band geek*

That's just basic instrument knowledge. :P

I do have to admit the father playing the trombone is actually pretty good with it.
That or I just happen to like that beat way too much for some reason.
I can kind of relate to that GM. I know what it feels like to be really excited for a big event coming up in an RP and just wanting to get to it. That wait can be hard, but by god is it worth it if you can pull it off.

However, I am going to have to pull a Brovo here and say "The RP didn't die cause the DM left. It died because once he left and you guys as players didn't pick it up and keep moving". I mean, I've been in several RP's that died after the GM vanished. I'm guilty of this too, I know how tricky it can be to keep it going. But I've also been in roleplay communities that were founded as a result of ditching a bad GM/Leadership and starting new, it is entirely possible for a RP to get even better after losing their DM.
Innue said The anime threads do well because there is a higher demand and audience for them.

I know anime is popular, but it ain't that popular. Unless if you hunt down an anime club people will generally just know something about Naruto, Bleach or One Piece.
Maybe Death Note and Attack on Titan, the interest is there but minor. Cause they're more invested in say Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.

But super heroes? Almost everyone has seen and likes Batman, Superman and Spiderman. And Marvel is exploding in popularity with their Avengers movies, the individual movies of each of those heros, and with all the X-Men movies. You could get a big discussion with almost everyone about superheroes, but not with nearly as many people on anime unless if it's "That anime girl's hot. She has big tits".
And I say this as someone who does enjoy a lot of anime myself, it just is not nearly as prevalent or popular in everyday life unless if you consciously surround yourself with anime fans.

Innue said Anime is also very, very general, while superheroes as a genre is a bit more narrow and focused.

Only if you flat out go "Anime RP". But the majority of anime RP's are based on a certain anime like Naruto or Bleach (picking mainstream ones here).
While superhero's generally let you make any hero, they have to. Outside of Justice League or Shield it would essentially be "You be batman, everyone else be cops or villains" sort of deal. So by allowing people to create basically any hero they want, it adds are more generality and variety than most anime RP's would.
There are some styles and concepts though that require the right mix of people to make a community out of.
Which is normally helped/enhanced by using another forum site to really focus/specialize in it.
The issue is most people on the Guild don't want to go off site, so trying to set up such an RP relies on getting lucky with the Interest Check and being able to manage it all on one thread.
I'm excited to see a Marvel series in a more realistic/gritty light.
Where people are suffering and terrorized, and it's not just a "Shield saves the day" thing.
Which the trailer seems to lead to them doing.
I've been getting distracted the past while honestly so I had made that CS just then. :P
So thankfully, nothing lost.
Nah, I almost always prefer being engaged in something and having input and control rather than sitting back and observing.
It's why I never, ever read books for free time. But will constantly look for video game narrative master pieces like The Walking Dead. I derive far more enjoyment from giving input and making choices than simply watching.

I still watch some TV mind you (The fact they have voices and visuals helps a lot, so I know I'm seeing what I'm seeing. And not say completely miss-imagining what the author means for you to imagine). But I suspect a reason I have big issues starting new series (even though I'm essentially on a 8 month summer break) is because you need to get me in the right mood/state of mind to be entertained by just watching, rather than being actively involved and participating.
#Que Brovo telling OP how an RP is only ever dead if you yourself let it die.

Prince covered most stuff that needs to be said already mind you.
But I do feel the need to highlight all art forms have their 'for fun' and their 'creative masterpieces'.

I mean you got shoot em up movie's like Transformers, funny ones like Hot Fuzz, masterpieces like Lord of the Rings and Planet of the Apes.
TV Shows offer's fun shows like Spaced or Doctor Who, Action ones like Naruto, and serious ones like Clannad, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad.
Books you got borderline snuff/porn like 50 shades of grey and Twilight, actions books like Zombie Storm Troopers, and then acclaimed ones like 1812 (which I still need to read at some point in my life).

Essentially, even if art form has very serious and creative pieces in it that is not all the artform is. That is not all it is supposed to be, it is impossible to expect it to be that way.
