I hope this doesn't sound rude but you are aware this is the internet? People speak in absolutes all the time and it's just role playing we're talking about, I've seen a lot worse absolute statements on the internet.

Fine, then consider my complaint to the thread that people are speaking in absolutes. ^.-

But it being the internet doesn't make it any better (especially in discussion like this). You don't speak for the majority of the roleplayers and I know some people may not appreciate it.

Back on the original point, there can also be a serious slant away from character driven stories in which the characters have little to no impact on the world. In general, it is probably wisest to tread a very fine line through the center to ensure the characters can feel like they have an impact, but still have some kind of direction (again, not necessarily story/plot).
It's just a learning experience. Also a good field test for some of the movesets.
Shio's bracelet shined in response, light arcing off of it and coalescing on an ornate glyphal pattern in front of her, taking the shape of her starting Natrelmon. What had once been her Kohitsuji was now the stronger, more potent, Hitsuji.

Shio's Hitsuji was summoned at a fairly standard distance of thirty feet from Caelyn's Kyonshi. If Shio was going to play seriously, she would have considered an alternate tactic, but given the friendly nature of the match, it seemed polite to avoid defaulting to her training and going for a more aggressive initial push. Hitsuji bleated powerfully at his summon and Shio took a very focused stance behind him, her hands up in front of her with a stable stance planting her into the ground six feet behind her Hitsuji. It was unlikely that Caelyn would try to engage her at close range himself, as she would likely have a noted advantage at that range, but it was habit and facilitated usage of her Kuji-kiri.

Shio worked well with the Psychic type, as she didn't need to vocalize her commands to them as she did with other Natrelmon. It allowed her to operate in a more fluid manner. It was why choosing a Kohitsuji as her starter was the logical choice. She was keen on demonstrating that.

However, Kyonshi was not an easy opponent. With a solid set of typing, including one that negated an aspect of Hitsujis, it could be a challenging fight. Kyonshi's flight was an equal consideration for Shio in this battle. If it were serious, the weak point in this battle would have likely been Caelyn and she would have struck at that point. It was, as Shio had to reinforce to herself, a friendly match.
For the out of timeline Natrelmon battle....

If anyone in general has questions about what we are doing, feel free to post on here. ^.^

Most of the time if there's nothing for the characters to do except just talk then the rp doesn't last very long. That's my experience, again most players want direction and something to do

You seem to not have quite taken from it what I had hoped, but I also advise that you might want to avoid speaking in such absolutes for anything expressly identified as your feelings.

that's just it, people don't have enough time for heavy character driven rps, we have to work, go to school or take care kids. Real life is more important than telling stories with other people over the internet, which is why story driven rps make it more accessible for players with busy schedules. Also what grabs players is the concept and where you plan on going with the roleplay which is a form of the plot-line development. from my experiances, the most successful rps I have been a part of have always been the ones that have a definite plot direction and work all of the characters into it. Characters are fun to create, but without a goal in mind when it comes to the rp's story then you're basically stuck with a cool character that has nothing to do. Most roleplayers need direction which is where the GM and his co-GMs come in to help guide the story along. a lot of roleplays that I have been a part of that failed was because the story didn't go anywhere and the players had nothing to do. So if you're going to run a roleplay then please set some goals and have your storyline planned out otherwise it will most likely die.

Your last line would be better phrased as, "I think it is important to make sure there are set goals and have your storyline planned out." Your current phrasing rubs me the wrong way.

There aren't absolutes in this.

A lot of it depends on the level that the roleplaying is being done at. Character driven roleplays can operate much better in free than in casual or advanced because the expectation is different. However, that isn't to say that you need to absolutely have a storyline in order to make it work in the higher levels, as there is a distinction between having a storyline and having a purpose. I've ran Natrelmon many successful times without a real storyline, but created challenges for the players.

Does anyone else feel like character driven roleplays never seem to get very far? I feel like story is what keeps people interested in the rp not just the characters.

This circles back to player expectation versus reality. Mostly heavily character driven threads just haven't had enough time to grow into being a concept that can work. Additionally, they tend to require a higher number of characters to feel fulfilling. I've found that they tend to need very specific timing with their release; quick enough that the IC people don't disappear, but delayed enough that you have enough interest to make it work.

It also comes down to just general GMing. You have to create compelling reasons for characters to go to places other than just 'go do this', otherwise interaction, which is crucial to these types, ends up suffering. This is especially the case in larger word character driven stories where it would be strange to have X character be at Y location, so they are off on their own for now due to their background.

Overall, I prefer the character driven threads, they just can be very difficult to execute.
Everyone should split up into groups once into the morgue (or wander around on your own if you dare).

Enjoy. :D
2spooky - Shio

The group got to the morgue with surprisingly little incident. Cat's shot with her rifle was impeccable, taking out most before they even got to the group. Those that did were quickly taken out by Violet, leaving little for their contingency of trainers to do. A few trainers had arrived before Cat and Violet's group. Shio didn't recognized most of them, but it was a statistical improvement for the success of whatever they needed to do. However, Shio saw an immediate decline in their odds. The swarm of Natrelmon shrouded by the same energies as the Crowire that had flown through the window minutes ago. Unfortunately, it was not just a Crowire this time.

There were hundreds of them and that was just what they could see not hidden by the dark, swirling mists that filled the Toranese streets.

"Trainers," Cat called, "Get into the morgue and bar the door. Violet and I will hold back the swarm. Please try to locate any that may have gotten inside of the morgue and dispatch them. You'll need to strike through the head."

Shio quickly complied, holding the door for the trainers. However, there was a problem. The morgue was a part of Toran's major hospital, making it a massive building. It would take hours for them to comb through the entire building as a singular group. They would have to break up and focus on locating the morgue. The mist had managed to creep into this building as well, obscuring much of the signage, so locating the actually morgue in the hospital would be difficult - especially if the body had not been moved into cold storage.

Cat's rifle hummed with energy, much different from her shots before. Wind erupted from the barrel, launching Cat upwards towards the top of the three story building. She landed graceful and began strafing her rifle across the landscape, picking down those just behind the frontline of the swarm, which Violet was dealing with. Lightning arced off of Violet's fist, chaining through the swarming Natrelmon. It wouldn't destroy them, but it would at least provide an unpleasant distraction.
The next 2spooky will be posted tomorrow.

We will be entering the building, so be prepared for that and such.
