You don't have to be a mage, though there are obvious benefits. Likewise there are methods to allow standard humans to be comparable to mages anyways via technology, though I imagine that kind of technology won't appear at the start given Krukow is basically the boonies. As well, well-spirited standard humans have the possibility of linking with an Aeva which will certainly make them comparable (at the least) to mages.
Nah, it's fine. I wasn't offended. Just making a correction. But that does bring up a point of what kind of army Edolas has. I can't recall the anime or the manga stating (or even implying) the recruitment methods. Though they could be different from then considering our IC has a different person in power. :/

Actually I know a lot of veterans and you'd be surprised by how fiercely loyal most soldiers are. Though it is more so towards their immediate CO than a General or something. But still, the concept applies. Most soldiers, at least in the United States, are disciplined and loyal to their comrades.
