Wyvern found his brother's corpse. He'd been torn apart by a serpent, with a hole in his forehead from a headbite. He took his brother's equipment before setting the self-destruct device. The blast would vaporize everything within a ten meter radius, so he began heading for the human settlement.

Most new the story of how Jenkins had gotten wasted on a colony, flirted with the wrong girl, and wound up with a completely dislocated jaw. He never drank again for six months.

"No wonder people are risking their asses," Drake said. He scowled in frustration. "Just makes more work for us though, damn them." He drew his pistol, checking the magazine out of habit.

"I don't know why we don't nuke the place from orbit," Cho said. Drake shook his head.

"Because they could survive. Xenos can survive in a vacuum. For how long, I don't know."

"Nobody knows where Xenos came from," said Drake. "But we know that first and second contact was on Earth back in the twenty-first century. We didn't encounter them again until 2122. These things are not natural." He sat on his cot. "As far as I can tell, it's like God, or Satan, or whatever decided to make the perfect predator and bioweapon. And I'm sure people want to get their hands on them for the latter purpose."

"We'll contact the In Autumn Clad," Drake said. "It's still in orbit, so we'll get supplies when we need them." He moved to the computer. "USS In Autumn Clad, this is Sergeant Drake."

"Go ahead, Sergeant."

"We've secured the armory as field command. We have a Private in need of medevac. Can he be brought up when the next squad arrives?"

"We'll have a bed opened up for him when he comes homes."

"WILCO. Reports will be sent every hour until the next squad arrives. Drake out."

Moonscar returned to the nest, seeing her mother, the Queen. She was massive, even by the standards of Queen Xenomorphs, she was large, standing nearly three stories tall. Her exoskeleton was a pale white, and more heavily armored than other Queens. Unfortunately for the humans, she was also more intelligent, too, and could lay far more eggs.

Wyvern broke the Crusher's finger off, taking off his Biomask as well. He etched a symbol onto his forehead with the acid, then his helmet. He was Blooded now. His brothers may be dead by now, or Blooded like him. Either way, the serpents had to be eradicated.
