@Crab... see if you can find out what she's interested in. Then ask her about it. No flirting need be involved to just break the ice. :)

Bio

Long time casual role player who loves tales of adventure! I enjoy tabletop games, play-by-post, and even LARP!

Wild (and sometimes weird) west and medieval fantasy games with an 'old-school' D&D feel are my favorite.

In real life, I'm a software engineer and wanna-be farmer. I have a little garden and some chickens that like to destroy my flower beds. But I like 'em anyway and they all have names. ;) Sometimes they lay me some breakfast.

Other hobbies include dog agility and archery.

"I'll get it!" Glenn said with an enthusiastic smile. "Sure is exciting, Roan!" He went inside and dropped his large stack of firewood next to the hearth in the little kitchen, then climbed the ladder that led to the loft, which acted as his sleeping quarters. Sitting down on the straw filled mattress, Glenn fished his large hand around under the bed until he found the little box that contained his 9 silver coins and deposited the money into his shirt pocket, right next to the treasure map.

Meanwhile, Dotta busied herself packing what food she could spare for the duo; a bit of cheese sealed in wax, two loaves of bread, and even some beef jerky.

When Glenn climbed back down the ladder, she handed the package of food to Roan. She then picked up the sturdy and sharp woodman's axe that rested near the door. "Glenn, I want you to take this," she said.

He took the offered axe, but looked confused. "Okay, but I don't expect I'll have to chop much wood, Ms Dotta" he said, experimenting with how to carrying the thing on his belt.

"I'd feel better if you took it along anyways," she said with only half a smile, still appearing slightly worried about letting him go. "You just never know..."
I love the idea of alternating events! I think it'll make the story more interesting. :)

As for the map destination being the beginning or the end, I don't know. I think I had been envisioning it as the end, but no reason to nail it down just yet. We might come up with some really cool ideas between now and then!

"We should be close," said the old man excitedly, pointing at his barely legible map. "The ruins shouldn't be much farther."

"About time," muttered Althea under her breath as she adjusted her bow and rubbed her hands together to warm her cold fingers. It was early spring and the small group had been on the road for several days now. She, along with a couple others, had been hired by the old man as protection while he searched for some trinket or other that was supposed to be in these ruins he was leading them toward.

Althea thought the old man was a little off his rocker. But no matter. It was a gold in her pocket either way.

The small group trudged on, unaware of what waited for them at the ruins...

For Kelewen and Kirra.

I don't think a character sheets are required, unless you want one. I tend to like figuring out my character as we go!
Great! :) I'd love to RP with you Kirra. I'll toss the intro up as an RP and we can get rolling! (No rush though, I'm definitely no speed poster)
Sorry, don't mean to be an RP slacker! I'll try to find some time today to post...
Glenn finished his meal and Dotta looked at him with a smile. "Would you fetch me a few armloads of wood for the fire?" she asked him and the big man obliged quickly, heading back outside and leaving the widow alone with Roan.

Her eyes turned to the youth that was hardly bigger than herself. She didn't sense any maliciousness in Roan, but her concern was still evident. "I don't mind Glenn headed off for a bit. In fact I think it'll do him a world of good to see something other than Noarun. But you make sure he gets back here, okay? My heart's not ready for losing another one yet."

She sat back in her chair and continued, not particularly expecting a response to that last statement. "Only help I really have to offer is to pack you two a bit of food that'll see you through a few days."

The road north led the newly formed adventuring party into a wooded area and the morning passed by uneventfully. And it wasn't until the sun was past its zenith and stomachs were starting to rumble that they heard voices ahead on the road...
"Check 'er pockets," one man said, slightly out of breath, as he held a blood soaked rag over a nasty gash on his upper arm where an arrow had torn through his ratty shirt.

Two of his companions complied eagerly and approached the dark haired woman dressed in traveling garb, who was currently on her knees with her hands resting on her head, while a fourth man kept an arrow carefully trained on her chest. At the moment, she was weaponless, her blade resting uselessly on the ground a few feet away from her. But if looks could indeed kill, the two men putting their grimy hands in her pockets and pouches would have died instantly.

She hadn't been carrying much, so the highwaymen only managed to find a few silver pieces, an unmarked potion bottle, and a knife that had been concealed in her right boot.

Nearby, two bodies lie motionless on the road, one man and one woman. The female was dressed fine traveling clothes, presumably the girl's traveling companion, while the other wore tattered garb, marking him as another highwayman.

(Edited to make traveling companion a female)
Meanwhile, a group of six orcs had strapped on various, mismatched pieces of armor, picked up weapons and were mounting their wargs. The animals snarled, some snapping at each other before the orcs kicked them into a reckless gallop, heading out of the campsite and up the slope which the human prisoner had been dragged down the night before, intending on heading back to where the rider had been captured and track his horse.

And they were headed right toward the quarreling parties at the top of the hill...
