Why not try a Dungeons & Dragons style RP with the D6 RTD rule system.
RTD is simple, each player plays as a character and each turn performs an action (can be any action the player wants). The DM will roll a 1d6 to determine how successful the action was, ranging from disastrous (1), failure (2), iffy success (3), success (4), great success (5), too successful (6).
Classes:
Barbarian
Ranger
Rogue
Healer
Wizard
Paladin
Races Allowed:
Human
Halfling
Halfelf
Elf
Dwarf
Gnome
Minotaur
Example of play:
The goblins crept in slowly, they scoured the rocky hills, moving in unison , inching closer and closer upon the unsuspecting party.
The Goblin leader shouted a war cry and several other goblins fired their crossbows at the party
DM rolls a d6 , a 5 is rolled, Great Success.
3 random players have been hit.
It's gonna be a trust roll, and I have no reason to cheat you

@Kenshi I've played everything but Basic D&D. I'm an extremely experienced player and know 3rd edition (3.5 if your nitpicky) rules by heart. I do however favor Pathfinder over 5th edition and 3rd edition D&D. As both Pathfinder and 3rd edition D&D are cross compatible.
Never played 3rd, we got the books, but none of us wanted to DM it.
Went back to playing 2nd, until our DM bought 4th.
I hated 4th, too much like super hero video game.
