@pugbutter Well, more or less. Actually, you got the main idea down to a T. Unfortunately, some of the details you provided don't line up perfectly with the plot I had in mind. (makes me wish I had thought of all of that)

To summarize, the world is currently a doomed shithole. The sun is gone, and people cannot go to Valhalla no matter how bravely they have died. This is an expedition into uncharted, hostile territories in order to restore balance to the forces of life and death. Rescue the Valkyries so Odin's army can win Ragnarök.

-This is absolutely accurate.

I am aware the info I provided wasn't enough since this is honestly just a WIP right now, at least on paper. I have the majority crammed in my brain so questions are welcome.

Each year during the tenth month all the gods of Japan gather at the shrine of Izumo-taisha. For those at Izumo-taisha this time is called Kamiarizuki which means 'the month when the gods are present'. For those who are elsewhere in Japan this time is called Kannazuki which means "the month when there are no gods."

This particular year the gathering at Izumo-taisha was of high importance. A faint yet menacing and dark ambience was flowing all across Japan spreading disquiet between both divine and mortal alike. The gods had no knowledge of what was causing this and it was decided that the gathering at Izumo-taisha would be utilized as a meeting between all the divine deities to address the situation.

For the first part of the meeting all went well. The gods discussed the issue at hand and it was agreed that something needed to be done to expel the darkening aura. The gods began formulating plans to rid the land of the aura.

Farther along, however, at every mention of the darkness the air grew heavier. And heavier. Suddenly as the great goddess Amaterasu, who sat higher than the rest, began to speak...the world was enveloped in shadows.

Amaterasu blinked her divine eyes. The deity was lying with her face towards the sky. She stared carefully at sky that did not appear as the sky she knew. This sky was red and black. Red like blood and black like oblivion this new sky swirled above her.
Amaterasu rose to her feet as dust and rubbled rolled off her silken robes. He lifted her elegant divine hands to brush the soil away. She stood brushing the rubble remnants from her robes when she heard a low grumble not far away.
She looked around, taking in the devestating scene before her. The shrine was...upturned. The stone ground was cracked and crumbled and boulders lay above the ground. The magneficant walls and proud pillars were now nothing but piles of rubble.
Amaterasu searched for the source of the grumble she had heard before. She found it...or him a few meters away. She recognized it as god of thunder and lighting, Raijin. His arm was embedded beneath a boulder. Amaterasu rushed to his aid and with great strength heaved the rock away from him. The god Raijin groaned in pain and Amaterasu helped him to his feet.
"Thank you goddess...What has happened to this place?" Raijin said as he gazed around, bewildered. He held is mangled arm.
"That is not a question I can answer, except I do know, the others have vanished."
Suddenly another voice rang out, "I can tell you they haven't vanished!"
Both Amaterasu and Raijin turned towards the direction of the voice. Another deity was among the rubbled. He was sitting beside a large boulder and he was covered in pebbles and a lot of dust. He heaved a rather large stone off his thigh and pulled himself to his feet using the boulder beside him. It was the god of wisdom...
   "Omoikane!"
Amaterasu and Raijin moved over to him. The three great deities stood side-by-side amongst distruction, beneatha crimson sky.
"What do you mean Omoikane? Where have they gone?" Amaterasu asked.
Omoikane sighed and scratched his head, "They were taken."
   "By whom?" Raijin hissed.
"For that I am answerless, all I know is that the one who took them was dark...and powerful."
"We'll have to find the one who took the others and take them back!" Amaterasu declared. Omoikane shook his head.
"I don't think such a thing is possible, we are too few in number and weakened from this attack."
Amaterasu started to speak but was cut off abruptly as Raijin raised his hand for silence.
"We should leave here for now, in case anyone comes back to capture us too. I doubt it meant to leave us behind."
The three gods nodded and parted from the shrine. They made their way through a small forest and came out to a crest of land that overlooked a village.
What was before the three was horrific. The village had risen in flames that curled up towards the crimson sky. From the distance the gods could see the humans fleeing in terror from fiendish beasts.
The gods rushed down to aid them.
Raijin, although injured, attacked the fiends first with powerful bolts of lighting. Amaterasu finished with beams of fiery light. Fortunately the beasts were quite few in number so they were taken out quickly.
After all the beasts were dead the gods stood, exhausted. Raijin approached the corpse of one of the monsters and nudged it's head with the toe of his shoe.
"What are these things?" He turned to the other two who shook their heads.
The gods fell back to their crest on the hill.
"We have to do something! These creatures could be all across the land, terrorizing the mortals! And the sky is strange. And the other gods have been kidnapped." Amaterasu exclaimed.
"As I said before, we are too weak to take action alone..." Omoikane said and bowed his head in sadness.
The three of them stood quietly on the crest, deep in thought. After a long while of silence Omoikane raised his head.
   "We have an option."
Raijin and Amaterasu looked at him expectantly. Omoikane breathed deeply and voiced this option hesitantly, " We could...summon...them..."
The gods stood rigidly, staring, unblinking at one another.
"Impossible, as if they'd listen!" Raijin snarled, suddenly angry. Amaterasu nodded and agreed with Raijin.
"They've never been known to participate in such a worthy cause. For all we know this entire situation is their doing."
"I doubt that. Those fools can hardly walk straight, let alone capture all the divine gods!" Raijin snapped.
"It is our only option," Omoikane urged. They all grew silent again. Raijin and Amaterasu exchanged glances, uncertainly.
They turned to Omoikane and Amaterasu spoke, "I shall summon those immoral beasts, there is no guarantee they will even listen."

All of the gods were captured by the darkness except three. Amaterasu, Raijin, and Omoikane.

After killing the beasts the gods decided on what to do about their situation. Since they were too weak to take care of it on their own, they decided to resort to summoning some "immoral beasts".

These "beasts" are actually a group of troublemaking demons who have long history of hell raising. Despite their tendencies this group of rogues is also known for being undeniably powerful. The three gods decide to summon the demons to see if they will take up the task 0f replacing the missing gods in this dire situation.

   When demons become gods.

Our characters will be the demons. After hesitantly agreeing to replace the gods, our demons will trek across land to kill the monstrous beasts. Along the way they will search for the missing kami and the darkness that stole them.

This is an anime~style role-play and is set in Japan. That means Japanese names and anime pictures. It is also set in earlier feudal times so no modern technology. It's not based off of an actual anime or manga, I just prefer to use the pictures and stuff.

So what do y'all think of it.

(note: I'm new to this forum and role-play forums in general so I have next to no idea how they work, hehehe. I do have plenty of experience role-playing though so no worries)

(poof, the end.)
Yeh, I'm gonna make it soon. Gotta work on a couple things first.
