True, but this does give some time to character/group development. Though I'm in favor for fast forwarding to the investigation, it might not be a bad idea to have an aside scene- like us in a transport or something.
Dang, spells and arrows have a LOT of range, then.

When your party approached earlier, you were about 12 spaces for the first shot 8 for the second. As far as the range of weapons are concerned, spells can effect out to about 10 (albeit with reduced accuracy) and bows 15-20(short and longbows respectfully) You can expect an unmounted biped to be able to cover about 4 spaces an action, and mounted 10-12.
As Nathan entered the messhall, he'd make his way swiftly to where he had been seated. Though in the back of his mind he had convinced himself that the bag would still be there, that was not the case.

"Shit..." Quickly he began scouring over the nearby area, looking under and around the table before setting off to scan the rest of the room. Sure enough, it was no longer there, "Shit, shit, shit..."

"Are you looking for the bag that was over here?" an unfamiliar voice resounded behind Nathan, causing the man to turn his attention form his search. A rather unremarkable man stood before him, but he had Nathan's complete attention at the mention of his bag.

"Yes! Did you see who snagged it?"

"One of the officers. Gerlach, I think. She picked it up, and headed off-" As the man began pointing out the direction fo which the woman had left, Nathan bolted past him before the crew-mate could finish talking. Sure enough, the visage of a limping woman carrying his bag over her shoulder came into view. A mix of relief and surprise washed over the man, debating how he should approach the situation as his frantic sprint now turned into a purposeful walk. He didn't want to see too eager to get his effects back, but as he came close, his fingers twitched in anticipation.

"Officer Gerlach, right?" He spoke out, his voice seeming rather calm despite his racing thoughts, "Appreciate you holding onto that... Must've slipped my mind to pick it up as I left."
If the distance between the forest and the city is 30 spaces (the hill being about 25-26) Gabranth and the woman are now 23 and the Risen 25. The risen are on the heels of the two, but they are still a ways from the city.
No longer a combatant
I was debating on wether to post a response, or wait for Vash's update, since I didn't know if it would pretain to Faris or not. Sorry , if I'm holding you up @DemonTongue.
First time in battle was a supposed musical talent show, hosted at his local stadium. He didn't know it was actually a musical duel, and had no idea of his powers. He fought against a drummer there, spending most of his time fleeing for his life and seeking shelter from the assault. However, when he screamed, a massive shockwave shook the stadium. Acting on a whim, he began singing known metal songs and ultimately won the day. This all came to a shock to him, since he'd never even knew his voice had this effect until he nearly died.
I'm confused?
Come on, you'll get through this!

We shall see. Wouldn't be the first time someone died soon after starting Dark Souls.
