I played around with the War on Talmaria. Hopefully it doesn't derail too much of the canon lore. I did enjoy writing this within the confines of the lore.

Character:
Name: Tabetha Lockwell [human], Sindri Thalawen [Elven]

Appearance:

Age: 26 (original+5 years after the war)=31

Gender: Female

Race: Half-elf (human father)

Rank: Knight-Corporal but became Knight-Captain before retiring

Status: Unknown, believed to be somewhere in what was once Talmaria

As the Dead God's army advanced through the domains of the Wood Elves, the Wood Elves sought assistance from anyone including those from the Order. Tabetha, recently promoted to a knight-captain, was chosen to lead an expedition force to aid the Elves as she grew up in Talmaria and would know how to get around and evade the Dead God's army through the forest. Despite initially protesting that she was exiled and therefore had no right to return home, she quickly changed her mind after realizing how absurd that sounded especially when her homeland was under invasion. After making contact with the Elves she learned that Kal'ras, her birthplace, was razed to the ground but not before her mother and the elders gave their lives to buy time for the others to run. This saddened Tabetha greatly as she wanted to see her mother again. The only good news she learned was that Leande, her childhood friend and daughter to a powerful noble, was still alive at the time Kal'ras was wiped out though her whereabouts was missing in the chaos that followed. From what she could gather, Leande was on a very important mission at the time of the evacuation.

Communication with the Order was sporadic and Tabetha did the most logical thing and lead her forces alongside the Elves in the defense of their homes. The war was brutal with the Elves on the defensive against the Dead God's hordes, utilizing guerrilla tactics to great effect. Though the enemy did cut down trees in response, it hasn't until the appearance of the undead High Dragon did things truly take a turn for the worst. The dragon's unholy fires laid waste to the Elves, conflagarating the ground with black flames that was nearly impossible to put out and incinerating swaths of forest in the blink of an eye. In undeath, the dragon did not lose its cunning and wits. Far from a mindless beast, it was intelligent and very much capable of speech.

In the weeks that followed since the high dragon's appearance, the enemy made great strides inland. The high dragon was the biggest problem and no matter what attacks that were thrown at the creature, it would not die. Everytime it fell, it would rise back up soon after. It was if Sar'than himself kept willing the dragon back into existence. In the aftermath of one battle against the dragon, Tabetha finally met Leande campside at night.

Leande looked worse for wear but was happy to see a familiar face albeit it was one she had not seen in years. After a brief round of introductions, Leande revealed a spellbook and gave it to Tabetha explaining that the book was her mother's last farewell gift in the very unlikely event she, Leande, would cross path with Tabetha again. Though Tabetha tried to pry what Leande mission was noting that she was carrying some unusual trinkets in her pouches, the Wood Elf kept a tight lip only saying that she was needed to go the Relastmina din Unadine.

Leande refused the offer of escort reasoning that a large party would only attract attention and slow her down but nonetheless thanked Tabetha for her offer. Explaining that speed was of the essence, she disappeared into the night and continued on her way. This would be the last time Tabetha saw Leande in the war.

Another few weeks passed and the ordeal with the dragon reached a standstill. Multiple "surefire ways" to kill the dragon failed miserably. The elvish leaders realized that if the dragon could not be taken care off, defeat was almost a certainty. It was decided then that rather than kill the beast, it would be much better to simply contain it with powerful elven magic. At least then, the home field advantage would be theirs once more. Without the terror in the skies, Sar'than's ground army was easy pickings for the elves inside the forests.

The plan was simple. Pin the high dragon down with multiple ballistas with projectiles imbued with earth magic that will grow heavier over time. Once the dragon was grounded from being too heavy, hit the dragon with a barrage of spells and siege weaponry to "kill it" and render it inert. In that timeframe, ancient and powerful magic will seal the dragon inside a great tree, permanently.

As part of a massive operation with almost all personnel present, Tabetha was responsible for holding one side of permimeter against the seemingly infinite horde of enemies. The fighting was vicious and the high dragon, confident as ever, cared little that his body grew heavier and heavier by the minute. Even as the creature found itself unable to fly, its massive bulk, powerful claws and tails, and fiery breath was more than enough to annihilate everything. However, its body could not withstand the onslaught of spells and siege weaponry. Dying once more, the dragon merely laughed and taunted the elves for their wasted effort. Time and time again, the high dragon revived. The great beast knew this time would be no different.

And so the magus and geomancers began their work, rapidly growing a great oaken tree and imprisoning the high dragon within it, layering more and more protective wards atop each other in the hopes that the tree would become an unbreakable prison from which the dragon could not leave. With every last ounce of their magical strength gone, the spell was done and all that was present prayed it was enough.

The fighting continued still. One hour passed. Another hour passed. The horns of retreat echoing loudly through the air. Two more hours passed. Nothing. All was quiet. The deed was done. The high dragon was sealed and its evil would not harm the elves again. Now was the time for a counter offensive.

Without the high dragon, the Dead God's army was slowly driven back and the elves defended their homelands at a great cost. Whatever patches of land the dragon burned lingered with a fetid stench of death making them uninhabitable. Many lives were lost and much of the city states were in ruins. Of the personnel Tabetha was originally given, only 18 left the forest. But, many more veteran elves wanted to see the fight finished and left their forests. Thus, Tabetha returned back to headquarters with veteran elven soldiers who temporary joined the Order until the end of the war.

Nearly all of these elves returned back to the forest, Tabetha included. When pressed for an explanation by Evelyn, she said this:

"I am tired. I have yet to pay respects to my dear mother. I know you need everyone to help build your new world. However, at this moment I want no part of it. I need the peace and quiet the woods provide. I want to go back home. My mother's last gift to me...it is best that I return to the realm of Talmaria. And so, I will be leaving these behind (sets down her sigil and armaments). Thank you for everything commander. May fortune smile upon you in the days to come."

Tabetha was not seen since then. Some inside the Order say she has joined her kind once more and disappeared far into the west. Others say she is simply roaming the forest searching for something. A few even believe she will return one day when the day is right.

Is this dead?
With the scream emanating from below, Tabetha's heart sank. After witnessing the demon spawn's corpse and the dead dwarf fighters, she began to have second thoughts about this particular mission. How many more of them were there? Surely that scream must have alerted something nearby?

"I happen to be a geomancer. If its rock and earth I can shape it to my will. I can assist you in that endeavor Draxis."

Before she said anything, Draxis produced a vial of light. A tiny light in the infinite darkness; whatever cursed creature of the night in here that was responsible for the death of the dwarfs earlier that saw this tiny light would rush over to snuff it out.

"Draxis, the enemy would see us in this tunnel with that vial you are carrying, what if they are looking up right now and happen to see light inside these tunnels? If you cannot see, I can guide you." Tabetha asked with some concern.
Sorry I had some serious family issues that took my attention away from this. I am back now.
Will post tomorrow evening.
With the shaft of her spear resting on her shoulder, her left hand grabbing onto the reins of the horse, Tabetha’s gaze was unfocused as she was lost in her thoughts. The mission was simple: recapture Fort Harkon from the cultists. Theodore was confident that the siege would be easy under the cover of the night and that the enemy would be untrained and undisciplined.

Amateurs, he called them. Were they? This would be her first time seeing a cultist and it would be foolish to underestimate them. After all, they were partially responsible for the devastation wrought unto the Order. There was another matter that bothered her. Though the tunnels are abandoned now and Theodore had acquire a map of the cave, if someone just happened to know of the tunnel systems on their side, it would be a disaster. The entirety of this plan all rested on the fact the tunnel was usable.

She smiled lightly. Truthfully, Tabetha actually looked forward to seeing the tunnels. It was one of the reasons she agreed to this trip, especially so since the atmosphere in the capital became suffocating in light of recent events. Now, she could see the fabled dwarf architecture. Were they as impressive as the dwarfs boasted?

A childish delight fluttered in her heart. The tunnels were abandoned, so that could only mean one thing. Treasure! What if treasure were to found in the abandoned mines? How wonderful would that be?

She turned to the others. The one called Draxis rode ahead to catch up to Theodore who despite riding a pony, still had a sizable lead ahead of the group. Everyone else was quiet. Perhaps they were lost in their own thoughts. The silence was understandable. "Who's excited for the caves? I am! I personally can not wait to find some lofty treasure left behind, waiting to be discovered once more! What do you think we'll find in the caves?" she said aloud. She simply wanted to strike a conversation with the others even if the topic itself could be seen as immature.
Tuesday evening is when I am free to post.
Apologies, it's midterm week and I haven't been posting because of it. I'll probably post around next week or if some miracle by this weekend.
