Anyone remember the period a little after guildfall, when the site didn't have a lot of work put into it, the servers went down pretty often and people were moving out? We waited and waited until boom, Mahz made America the guild great again. That was about where I left off.
My mistake was trying to take on everything at once (and being cringy as hell but I mean come on). Well now I'm back, and better than ever.
And I'll be damned if I let anything get in the way of having a good time.
+1 quick question, say minions travel for a long duration. Do they still get random encounters? Because technically, they're just avatar abilities, not avatars themselves.
By the way, does anyone have kind of baseline weapon stats? Because it seems I'd need to add avatar equipment but I don't really know the power levels of the tiers.
Thomas Green stared down at the paper on his desk. He held a pen in his right hand, twirling it absentmindedly. His right hand was curled under his chin, supporting a stern expression of deep focus. "Hmmm...." The boy hummed thoughtfully. Finally, he sighed and flopped back into his chair. "That'll do for now." He said.
Flicking his arm over his shoulder he threw the pen away and leaned forward in his seat, crossing his legs on the chair. Thomas clasped his hands in front of his face while staring down at the pile of papers he'd haphazardly thrown onto the table. The bottom of the pile was mostly made up of his homework. It'd only distract him later, so he'd gotten it done first and set it aside. Everything above that, however, was much more important to him.
Thomas moved a few sheets off the top before fishing out a piece of paper. It was a rough draft for an advertisement for Purple Crown's almost derelict newspaper club. Strewn across his desk were pieces of similarly worded missives with the intention of gaining new members for the newspaper club, or what used to be the newspaper club.
There were a few reasons as to why he was trying to gain new members, first and foremost being that he needed them. Under-performing clubs tended to have a very low life expectancy in purple crown. After all, adults didn't pay taxes for organisations to twiddle their thumbs for who-knows-how-long, why should high schoolers? The Newspaper club had its shortcomings in the name newspaper. The digitization of modern society had basically made paper defunct. Who needed paper stuff when you could get whatever you needed anytime anywhere with holographic interfaces? And then there was the news bit. The news produced by the newspaper club was never particularly new, not when there were forums for just about everything that existed.
The Newspaper club had enjoyed a few glory days in the early times of purple crown, but that didn't last long. Its relative "fame" drew mediocrity into its ranks, digital advances made paper more and more obsolete and after that, one hostile takeover staged by incompetent members through Deep Ground was all it took to destroy the rest, leaving Thomas as one of the only 2 members of the newspaper club. Of course, by the time Thomas had joined the newspaper club was halfway in the grave and most of the culprits had already graduated.
The old president of the newspaper was a good person but he didn't have enough resources to claw back. They kept on losing members right until the day the president graduated. Of course, by then, it was only Thomas and his cousin, Alicia. To take the newspaper club back there would need to be some serious changes. Serious changes Thomas had planned on taking.
"Open browser." Thomas said, hunched over the desk. The glowing blue interface shimmered to life on his left. His screen was set to the school forums, the last page he'd visited. Flicking his way to the public forums he quickly began a new post.
JOIN THE NEWS CLUB Are you Interested in doing something fun in your spare time? Are you good at writing, speaking and finding information? Well then, FUCK OFF. We don't need people who are good at their jobs, we need people who are FUCKING SENSATIONAL. This isn't for fun, this is serious business.
You can find news anywhere but that doesn't make it any good. And we don't need to be good, we need to be fucking GREAT. If you think you have the chops to stay ahead of the pack, I DARE you to go to the newspaper club room, and we'll see what you've got.
(3rd room on the second floor of building 2 after school EDIT: lunch time, look for the sign. Sorry for the foul language, please join, we need members.)
"That'll do for now" Thomas muttered, looking over his work. Thomas pressed the publish button and dismissed the screen. Item 1 on the agenda was cleared, though he wasn't entirely sure it'd be effective. He didn't have much choice, though, and he likely needed the kinds of people that'd respond to something like that.
There were 3 things the newspaper club needed to get back to its former glory; members, news and the personal touch. The first item on the agenda was being taken care of, and that particular truck would get somewhere soon, hopefully. Getting news was tied with getting members. There was simply too little he could do as one person that anyone actually cared about. He'd need multiple stories covered at multiple angles, something he couldn't do with only 2 people. The last thing the newspaper club needed was a Thomas Green personal touch; the newspaper club needed a new format. But he'd already drawn the plans for that so he'd build that bridge when he got there.
But now that members was being taken care of, it was time for him to get some news.
Thomas uncrossed his legs and got out of his chair, stretching his stiff muscles before letting our a yawn. He shuffled lethargically to his bed before flopping down with a sigh. Turning over to face the ceiling, he had took a moment to marshal his thoughts. Quite frankly, Thomas was getting frustrated by the state of affairs.
The black king's announcement, the black city sweepers gathering, the dissolution incident and the forced log out event made the past week a veritable buffet of interesting and, more importantly, marketable stories to write but he hadn't been do anything. He'd weighed the options of joining the black guild and decided not to - but he'd observed the dissolution incident and he'd deduced the sweeper gatherings, but he'd been busy organizing the comeback of the Newspaper club. He couldn't help but feel like he'd missed something important in the black city but he couldn't get into the city at the time anyway. Something had happened there that he would definitely regret not knowing about, and he would find out what it was. "No matter what..." He muttered out loud.
This got approved, don't worry Appearance (Real Life): Height: 175 cm Weight: 80 kg Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Brown Name: Thomas Green Age: 16
Thomas was born to loving parents, though his mother wasn’t often there. She’d had quite a successful career due to deep ground, though even after that was over, her love of adventure often got the better of her. She became a reporter, trekking around the globe for something interesting. His father was reliable enough, if a little distant, but Thomas never had anything against his parents. From a young age, he was taught how to do household chores and take responsibility, but he never complained. It had to be done, so he did it. The one solace from his mundane life was his cousin, whose company he enjoyed more than pretty much anyone. Fast forward a few years of monotony and a few things change. While he remains whimsical as ever, he’s a little less energetic than he was. He doesn’t have many friends, though that suits him alright. Then Deep ground happens. His initial impression is rather mixed. On the one hand, it’s an interesting game to whittle down the time. On the other hand, it’s rather odd that it would decide your future. He couldn’t really bring himself to like it all that much, however, because it seemed a little unfair, in a way he couldn’t really describe. So instead of opting to spend his entire high-school life focused on Deep Ground, like many other people his age did, he decided to try and become successful through his own efforts. He was initially against enrolling in Purple Crown but once he found out that his cousin was going there and that their education was quite high quality, he decided to enroll. He joined the news club to help his cousin who idolised his mother, though the news club was already in its decline at that point. At the tender age of 16, he became the president of the news club and plans to revitalise the dead club.
Personality: Thomas is layed back about a lot of things and tends not to worry about the future. He likes to conserve his strength in case he needs it. Even though he’s quite laid back, when things need to be done he gets down to business, becoming much more serious. He has a talent for commanding people, though he’s not exactly a leader type. Still somewhat whimsical on occasion, doing frivolous things on a whim. He has a soft spot for his family and his cousin, but is otherwise fairly stubborn to things he considers worth the effort. Appearance (Avatar): The puppet master appears as a lanky humanoid metal puppet with no facial features. It’s quite agile, but is also surprisingly strong and durable. Avatar Class: Warlock Avatar profession: Enchanter Avatar Title: Puppet master Avatar Level (Initial): 3 (10,000 EXP) Avatar Guild: None for now
Level 1: Mark of the puppet master Category:Passive/Active Passively, the puppet master’s attacks attach a visible mark to the target. When the skill is activated, the puppet master chooses a marked target. Depending on whether or not the marked target is an ally or an enemy, the marks increase the damage the target deals or increases the damage they take by 10% for 5 minutes. Additional marks stack for a total of up to 50%, though more marks can be applied. The marks can be removed by the target through physical contact. The marks can also be administered by the puppet master via touch and do not persist through death. Cast time:Nearly instant Cooldown: 5 actions per target effective after the ability ends
Level 2: Puppet creation Category: Active/Passive The puppet master summons a puppet that mimics his appearance. The puppet has 50% of the puppet master’s hp and attack attributes, though keeps the puppet master’s defense attribute (including armour). The puppet is treated as an extension of the puppet master and the puppet master can use his abilities and feats through the puppet except for puppet creation, though normal cooldowns still apply. The puppet must be equipped with weapons after being created as it isn’t created with weapons. The puppet master can have up to 3 puppets out at once, though he can’t directly control more than he can concentrate on (2 with no distractions). The puppet master can either issue simple commands to his puppets or take command personally and use the puppet to act remotely. Puppet attacks apply the marks to their targets. This spell has 2 charges which accrue even while the puppet master is offline. Cast time: 3 seconds Cooldown: 2 time increments
Level 3: Sense share Toggled skill. The puppet master picks a target and trades either his sense of sight, smell, touch, hearing or taste for one of the target’s senses. The target needs to have at least one mark for the skill to be used. Both the puppet master and the target keep their traded senses but both can sense other’s traded sensations. For example, the puppet master can choose to share his sence of taste for a target’s sight. If the target was not informed before, they will have a strange taste in their mouth that they can’t explain while the puppet master will be able to see what they see. When the skill is toggled, marks on the target glow faintly if senses are being shared. Senses can be ignored by knowing targets. If touch is shared, damage is not dealt to the puppet master but he will feel pain. Cast time: None Cooldown: None
Monodextrous casting Enables you to wield a melee weapon in one hand
