You know what they say about lawyers.

*Stops and looks up at a partially detached sign reading "MESS HALL" and then glances over to you with a raised eyebrow*

What about siblings?

I have a brother. He had just started his own law firm, but we made time to see each other when we could.

I wasn’t sure if that group felt different or something.

It undeniably does, but it's not like that's necessarily a downside either. Different is just different.

And it looks like that inner circle will stick around a while?

I mean, probably? Hard to say with that kind of thing.

What about your new friends? Were they long-term?

Ranging from a couple years to since I was a kid.

I don’t know, maybe the loss in the end wasn’t made up for by the little victories along the way.

It helps when you don't see the end as a loss. It's just an end.

Was it worth making those friends in the first place?

Why wouldn't it be? Things didn't end on bad terms, and we enjoyed each other's company while it lasted. Then we moved on, and just met new people that made us happy when our paths split.

What happened to the others? Mundane drifting of interests? Moving?

Yeah. People start families as they enter adulthood more often than not and then priorities shift. Before you know it, you've stopped hanging out. Life happens.

And your homeworld. Did you have many friends?

A small inner circle. You know how it is, the way friend groups stray over time. But I have a couple.
